I'm happy Toyota gave you this car with a manual to review. You could literally review a potato and I would watch it, but to see you go over a car that has hype and controversy like this is rad and feels more genuine than the bigger more heavily "produced" car channels when they've done it. Thanks for covering such a wide range of cars /ages of cars and without being jaded about it. Cheers
I have a 6MT Supra and for anyone thinking about it get it! It's soo many smiles per gallon. If you are worried about being the fastest car on the street, don't get it because the auto is faster. If you drive for yourself and not trying to race everyone at every stop light, you'll enjoy it
I am looking forward to the Toyota MR2 and Celica that are coming out....MR2 may be convertible....something missing from the Toyota lineup (also could just as easily be a hardtop...but my money is on both, with one version coming later). The Celica will probably be an EV...but if not, I would be interested in that as well.
I wish Toyota brings back the Cressida/Mark II, it's basically a 4-door Supra. My mom had a white wagon from 1986, she hated it because she says it looked like a hearse.
Technically. The mark X was basically the chaser and etc afterwards but just dropped the chaser name along with it basically being a predecessor to the mark 2 and verossa with it to be brought down to just mark X and was in production until 2019. Only reason they more or less didn't bring it to the US was because it was basically a better looking lexus GS that was basically the same car so yea. If only.
@jaydee8926 I guess that's far, thinking about it now it's practically the cooler but fatter corolla. And I can agree,I prefer the 1st and 2nd gen GS's over the later gens by a long shot.
Personally I don't care about any modernized device integration. The car has to be a car, first. Not a mobile phone dock. I'm glad the Supra is a Supra, and I don't care very much about the interior as I would not be paying too much attention. If the Supra goes fast, that's all I care about.
Would Toyota have even put a manual in the Supra if Nissan hadn't committed to a manual in the 400Z? It took me almost a year to see a Supra after they came out and I live in the suburbs. I still haven't seen a 400Z. BMW makes good-driving cars but it's silly that no one put the windows down during testing. That and the clutch are disappointing. I'd go GR86 too. I'd rather have a car I can wring out and still be under the speed limit.
No. Toyo had a manual test bed running screenshot of the manual pop up in 2020 but later on had another pop up on a track around 2021 at the time but there wasn't much talk about it to really put it as concrete on if it was coming and it coming out around the time the Z was was a bit of a coincidence since they had it planned out to be released around 23 anyway.
It's a REALLY cool car, don't get me wrong. I just find it ironic that it's asking price is what you could get a very nice MK IV for. And frankly I think those looks are better. With that said the MK3 IMO has the BEST looks and is WAY WAY 'cheaper" don't get me wrong though, if I get mine painted next year I'll be $29,.000 into it. That's a lot of a stock ass auto/non-turbo. I just thing they made them better in the 80's and the interior is the best there is.
Zack, awesome review as always! I completely agree with you on all points you've made regarding this rebadged BMW. Toyota should have done a lot more scrutiny before they badged it as Supra. I believe BMW and Toyota tarnished the make model brand nameplate what it really means to be a Supra!
Google it. Toyota got burned in the 90s with the MKIV Supra poor sales. Then the Lexus LFA was the nail in the coffin with terrible sales. This BWM collaboration works perfect for Toyota because they aren't putting their financial necks on the line.
Even with a manual transmission, I still think the current Supra is a bad proposition. It gives you Toyota prestige with BMW running costs. Worst of both worlds.
Been seeing people thrashing them for so time and they take alot of abuse. Been keeping eye and they honestly are pretty reliable tbh, especially with what people throw at them.
I get where you're coming from but if we would have gotten a new super ride probably would have been electric there's no point in developing a one-off internal combustion platform that could go away in 10 years
@@TwoDollarGarargeExactly. Toyota fans don't understand this. The cost of development and if they don't sell well like the MKIV and LFA guess who gets screwed? That's right, Toyota then they'll never want to make another one
@@carboydorifutoparty3976 it will take abuse and keep running. But I believe it is more about durability than reliability, which is the main difference between a German and a Japanese car. In average - not mentioning specific models - a German car would last longer than a Japanese one, but as long as both are running the Japanese will experience less issues and breakdowns.
@@TwoDollarGararge That is the point. I don’t know whether it makes sense for Toyota - the most mainstream manufacturer - to have a sports car offering at all. I can’t remember of someone having a sports car as a first/only ride therefore making it a product for those who can afford an additional car, which made the market for sports cars shrink considerably. Adding to that, the average person who can afford having a second/third car (wealthy people) probably would look for a prestige brand, which makes the Supra proposition at least questionable.
Just let it go. It's 2023 not 1998 when the MKIV was for sale and nobody wanted to buy it. Fast and the furious comes out and it then becomes a classic. Smh. This collaboration is perfect for Toyota. They know there is a descent market for sports cars, they don't get burned, make some money and go on to develop an electric or hybrid Supra next. I think it's a win win
As always, Toyota wants you to drive responsibly.. those aftermarket parts are for the enthusiasts. Please enjoy the base level Toyotas, because they are awesome. No judgement. At least Toyota lets you Turn Assists Off. 4:54 pull tells you what you need to know. It pulls. tada.
5:50 - ha ha what is this? I hope Toyota adapts to your feedback and finds people on the development team who can understand the needs of the next generation, or it's going to be horribly wonky and outdated.. I hope Toyota doesn't Nintendo.
BMWs are known for decades for making some of the finest driving machines so what is the deal about that b*tching about the fact that Supra is a BMW underneath? BMW knows how to make sporty cars and that is just a compliment for the latest Supra.
If you talk to BMW enthusiast are you kind of been losing their way like all modern sports cars a modern hatchback with his 4,000 lbs That's a 1990s station wagon
Excellent review - thanks for letting us know this car is bad for kidnapping / mafia work
Nothing but a full-size sedan will really work for that kind of work

I am glad you don't try to shill and you point out the real bad stuff.
This is now my favorite spec of mk5 Supra
I agree-I’m definitely a “drive a slow car fast” guy.
I am so glad you brought the GR86 or BR-Z into the picture, I feel $60k is way too much for a car.
I really love the deepness of your videos!

All this needs is a Street Hunter body kit and it looks 10x better
Love the color, unfortunate about the transmission
Very sad that companies can manage to screw up and overcomplicate something as simple as a manual transmission. I'll be sticking to my MK2 Supra 👍

My man said whom whom whom whom whom helicopter effect😂
I feel this should be called ‘BMW’s Toyota Supra’
What sounds better.. this or the GR86 with the GR cat back exhaust? Thanks
That is the best color it comes in.
17 mpg? Yikes. Get a 2 liter, fast enough and better handling through less weight on the front axle.
I got 30 mpg in my manual on a roadtrip when i was driving it like a normal person!

Mk4s were more expensive than this was in today's inflation by a good 10-15k more. They were never cheap from the get go.
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but a manual car should not have a electronic parking brake. Give me my old school parking brake thank you. 😁

CDV is a BMW thing, you can delete it as I did in my 2003 BMW Z4. Takes about an hour.
I'm planning on doing the CDV delay valve removal on my 2023 Supra 6MT when I upgrade to a performance clutch. Any regrets removing the CDV?
No.
The stratosphere blue is actually a BMW color called portimao blue
because this car was actually made by BMW for Toyota. It's a BMW wearing a Toyota badge
Sad. I was looking forward to this car only to find out typical BMW oversights. Germans know better.
This is actually a BMW wearing a Toyota badge as BMW developed and manufactured it for Toyota. Toyota does not make sports cars

I wish Toytoa would stop using JBL...they are not that good, fine to be a default sound system...not good enough to be the upgrade system.
The rear end is the best angle on the Supra.
That's a BMW that identifies as a Toyota. 😂
