To summarize this whole episode:
It is an anthology of short stories, which is then made into a long story, that is turned out to be just a fabricated story, that didn't have any real impact to the story we apparently wanted to follow.

There's something though, the Train Toy was from the Citadel and they somehow, indirectly and maybe not intentional; depicted a reality where Evil Morty kills our Earth c-137 Rick and MOrty... Forshadowing a not so happy ending for the series? or at least this season, leaving it as a beautiful and painful cliffhanger... I don't even know anymore.

Ashton Turner Yeah, he didn't get it. The biggest give away, was when Morty asked if them meeting Lincler was real. And Rick says, it could have been. Basically the machine took a bunch of stories that all the fans wanted, and sucked them out of them and showed us. And because we saw bits and pieces, those won't be rehashed.

The fact that it poked fun at her being used by twitter activists as a shorthand for female empowerment totally flew over their heads.
i think ur the same guy, but i'll say it again, long eyelashes is a male trait............. i understand how its misconstrued to be a female, but in reality, males have the longer eyelashes, unless a female is wearing fake one, o rmakes them look longer/bigger.

Lizards, birds, fish, and insects aren’t even mammals but they’ll almost always grow hair on eyelids if they’re female. I think muppets are the same way.

Zoopy Love the hero’s journey. It’s a 12 step way of telling stories that involves the hero going on some journey, overcoming an enemy and returning home having grown as a character

The fans want reoccurring things. The whole point of Rick and Morty is that the universe is too vast to predict anything. Dan and Justin asserted their dominance in this one. I like it.
More like they want a coherent storyline. It's fine if the creators want Rick and Morty to be episodic instead, and I'm always down for trolling self-proclaimed "Rick and Morty fans", but they don't have to slather their dicks across the viewer's face with their "dominance". It's just patronising and petty.
I think the show has a good level of continuity. Overall there’s an ongoing story about Rick connecting with his family and making questionable decisions to achieve that goal. But that’s not really the goal-oriented plot that some viewers want and get from other shows like Game of Thrones or even The Flash. Even in Community the end goal was graduation. Rick and Morty doesn’t have that and the creators don’t want it to have that.

The advertisement at the end reminded me of the ending of Community. "But not in any ways that matter."
I said the same shit. Loved it.
It reminded me a lot of the episode where Abed tries to cope with the impending end of the series.

Surah is right about the bechdel test, it's two women that have to be named and have to talk about something other than a man. It's basically a test to measure the representation of women in a given piece of fiction and whether or not their entire characters revolve around a man. Said man doesn't have to be the main character if I'm not mistaken.
I'm looking forward to Evil Morty making a grand entrance in an episode only to be dismissed completely and never brought up again. Such a Harmon thing to do. It meant nothing!
But yeah, Harmon and Roiland never intended to have continuity between episodes. That's why they went with alternate realities where nothing could ever matter. Then they started putting in Easter Eggs and people liked it so they added a little here and there. But still never ended for it to be episodic, that's Harmon's whole thing, he appreciates narrative structure but feels trapped when he gets bound to it by the fans.
Essentially he loves the fans but also is frustrated by them. So he gives some laughs and a big middle finger then eventually feels bad about the finger and comes back around to setting things up like Evil Morty.. only to drop tid bits every other season because he doesn't want it to matter.. but it does. Really Harmon speaking through Rick laid it out in the early episodes.. Nothing Matters and Don't Think About It.
Oh and the buying things bit I think was Harmon's frustration at people basically saying "Hey, go back to work during the virus! You should be okay sacrificing your lives for our economy, it's what we need right now. You're a hero! It's about buying things not living!" That whole.. movement? I guess you would call it.
Even the Simpsons poked fun a Harmon's story cycle:

Like...I get the sentiment but it certainly doesn't feel good to have the whole evil Morty or rick backstory scrapped. It just feels like shit. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't less excited for season 5 now. I get that may be the point, but...like...if a message destroys the integrity and enjoyment of a piece of work, maybe its not the time/place to present that message.
This is without a doubt my least favorite episode, a good part of that being how it destroyed things I was looking forward to.

I don't think they threw him away. I think they mocked us for stealing the idea from them and running off to turn it into some overhyped fanfic that's way worse and more predictable than what they were hoping they could pull off when the time was right, stuffed full of outdated memes from episodes they wrote five years ago and nothing novel except the cross-universe fusion of Mr Poopybutthole and a Sith lord - in other words still nothing novel, just a fanservice fusion of a fanfav and an edgelord from an entirely different group of writers in an entirely different generation
The whole point is they were acknowledging they still have those things in the pocket. They literally fanned their pockets out so we could catch a glimpse of what's inside. They just did it with a character literally called 'story teller' who is literally trying to break the 5th wall by forcing his stories onto them. That doesn't mean they can't tell the story their way if and when they want to

A point of this episode was addressing fan theories and kinda saying that the show never had an overarching story, and never should. They do episodes to be standalone, rarely thinking about a bigger picture. The show probably strives best this way.
Most excited to see if Morty is just a younger Rick from a different dimension, and Rick snuck into this Morty’s dimension to pose as Morty’s grandfather
This is my favourite Rick & Morty episode. The Bechdel test scene was A+. They still got it.
Pretty sure "I am the concept of time" was to be like "who cares, I'm literally the concept of time".

@@jakhar5 We'll probably get something but the show doesn't take itself too seriously so don't expect much. It's a cartoon that explores absurdity and parodies film genres while trying to be funny. It's not a dumb anime show that gets up its own ass about lore.

I understand if the show never tried to touch on plot points, but they've created their own mess, either just end the plot points as soon as possible or forget about them and have a worse show overall. Tbh I cant really form an opinion on this episode until the show is done. I do hope if they touch on these points that they're completely different tho.

I was super excited to see a new recording pop up on my TV list, so I watched it right away.
Despite being super confused for the whole episode, I really enjoyed it.
And honestly, my favorite part has to be the scene at 14:08

No anthologies aren't flashbacks they're actually standalone side stories so they were telling stories we hadn't seen before like interdimensional cable.

I loved this episode! That moment when Paul Giamatti can make anything sound iconic. When Story Lord (Giamatti) said “What’s wrong Rick?!!! Don’t you wanna see how your story ends?!!!” And then it shows an army of Mr. Meseeks and Ricks being controlled by Evil Morty. I seriously got the chills... Best episode ever...

I just noticed before the big fake-out with the Evil Morty showdown - the Story Lord turns up the sliders for Broad Appeal and Marketability. Gotta re-watch this one a lot! This has easily become one of my top Rick and Morty episodes and I love that all the footage from the last 5 episodes trailer came from just this episode alone.
They did reference Coronavirus, at the end.

The ending was like the finale post credits of Community. The entire episode was also like the Community finale. Talking about alternate endings/future stories. I loved this episode too much. ❤️
Allow me to clarify the story:
It's a story about multiple stories that are basically existing in one story that is related to the other story at the end which is revealed to be a real story compared to the fabricated ones that are also related to the real story, but given the fact that these stories do not impact the main story they lose their strength unless compared to the related stories to the real story which are impacted by the fabricated story. So basically the real story was effected by the fabricated story the whole time!!!!

@Leon Russell Clearly you don't have the proper IQ to understand the story complexity behind the structure of the hero's journey, and the breakdown/tearing of it throughout the episode's entirety whilst simultaneously adding color commentary upon multiple hot-button subjects in stories
