Since starting youtube I've neglected our house and property as making videos takes up all of my time. I need to get some of those projects done so I'll probably be making a few of them into videos and killing two birds with one stone. I don't make too many two part videos but there would've been too much of a gap between my last video and this one by the time the project was finished. :)
It's definitely not a problem if you incorporate your house projects with the channel, honestly I've watched every video you've ever posted and I don't think these types of projects will be too big of a leap from your other ones. More power to ya, Pask!
I think adding your property modifications, is what it's all about. You've done seats, bar stools, why not do a Samurai Carpenter video series on extending your house. Always interested, in your woodworking ideas. By the way, I love stained timber. More home builds ! ! Stay safe Stu xx
Please don't apologise for incorporating your home repair/upgrades into your videos. The information and your insights into the how's and why's of what you are doing are of great value! Thank you for taking us along for the ride. (And I think you were right to split it into two videos.)
I often learn something from watching you make things and even when I don't learn anything new I benefit from seeing the care with which you work. House projects are exactly what I need to engage in most, so seeing you do some will be more inspiration.
Agreed Michael, in fact seeing our hero do the kind of DIY jobs we might do is equally as enjoyable as watching him do intricate and artistically challenging projects.
"House Projects" are probably why most of us have workshops and develop the skills we have to begin with. Project builds are great, but applying those skills to improving your families home is better!
if it weren't for house projects I would not have nearly the amount of tools I have now. If I could only get as much time for the "fun stuff" as I seem to have for the "honey do" stuff, I'd be set.
I think it's important to remember that you have a relationship with your audience that goes beyond 'just making stuff'. There are thousands of people online that are making stuff, and a lot of times it's the same stuff someone else has already made. So, the reason we click your video is because we specifically enjoy watching YOU make stuff. So myself, like a lot of others, would watch you make anything, regardless of what it was. Keep on doing what you enjoy, and we'll keep on clicking play. Cheers!
Absolutely. Home maintenance is a greatly overlooked activity for many people, and lots of folks tend to let things get run down unnecessarily. A series of videos working around the house would let him knock out the to-do list, and maybe inspire a few of us to take care of our own properties!
Same here. As a DIYer, I've learnt so much from Makers on UA-cam who do home renno work. I'd love to see a full series of DIY related videos no matter what they are!
As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
Don't worry about making videos like this. The channel is "Pask Makes". You're making things. I personally enjoy the creative process and that's why I watch. I came for the Scrap Wood Challenge videos and keep coming back for everything else.
I think you will find that we will watch you DIY house upgrades and projects just as much as your other projects. I for one love all the projects you do.
I love your channel because no matter the project, you always find a way to make it interesting and entertaining. No need to apologize for doing some renovation!
So happy to see that I'm not the only one with a "Honey-do" list. Glad to see you take the time off making to do home maintenance. We all have to do it even if it keeps nua away from making but, it's well worth it to keep the property safe and looking good for our significant others, they are worth it. Great job Neil.👍🏻🤜🏻
I really appreciate that you didn't tear it down an instead worked with what you had to beautify and improve. That's certainly more in line with what this DIY hack could do from a skill and budget standpoint. Looking forward to Part 2!
As stated in your last video - anything you make I will watch! Keep it up! Metalworking, house improvement, knife making, woodworking, cheese making, tours of your local area, book binding, brewing, gardening...
It never hurts to remind us all that life goes on outside the shop and that while we all deal with that and wonder how you manage all the shop time and video edit time AND life outside.....that in fact you ARE human after all. Love projects like these as well - inspirations fir what to do with the unsightly things that came with the package when buying the house (in my case it was the house, but that's another story). Can't wait for part 2. Can't wait for the #2 Keep Kath Happy project either. We all have a "Kath" of our own (though your Kath is a special breed to have let you go so long without doing such things -- by the way, the Komiko Wall Panels was also an awesome project -- give my regards to Kath!) Stay dry!
Its been long i have been watching woodworking videos, yours and few others. I always learn something more watching your videos that is why i do not miss them. I did make few things like yours and one of it is work bench leg vice. It saved me $ 900. Thank you PASK
I appreciate the way you simplify and de-escalate every project. In this case, one coat of paint instead of two. It's inspiring to see you plan and then edit the plan as you go.
Neil, you are such a humble person. It's always enjoyable to watch your content. I would watch everything you make. And also I love your creative way to approach things. That's very inspiring. And on topic: You could cover the connection box with a little wooden plate just on top of the platic cover. You could use the same holes and bolts. That way it's still water proof. Best wishes from Germany
I love your channel for your problem solving and creativity. I think most of us would watch any project you tackle because it will still have those elements. This project is coming along great; can't wait to see how it wraps up!
I don't have many (if any) of your tools. Or a workshop. Or a house. Or carport. But I'm still addicted to your channel, your amazing multi-fazeted skill, and your animals Thank you!!
I honestly don't see the difference. What I saw here is a talented gent using mad skills to improve his house and inspire all of us to do the same. Whether you are making hand tools or desks, making a chicken coop, or a Kumiko screen around your Granny flat, you are a joy to watch. Heck, I'd watch you dig a ditch, mate.
Please consider all your projects around the house valid for UA-cam. You get to make progress, and we always are learning watching you work. Super nice results. 👍👍😎👍👍
As always: I see a new video by Neil I drop everything and watch it. It’s such a joy to look and learn - no matter what you’re doing! You always have these smart little ideas that make all the difference. thanks for your work here! Looking forward to the next part!
I'm here to watch you make. You're making, I'm watching. Making the house look better counts as making, so count me as watching. Keep up the making, we'll keep up the watching.
These videos are just as entertaining as the shop ones. Both give me ideas, inspiration and a way to save loads of money 😆 As much as I'd love to do any of this my 60+ hour per week job neither affords me the time nor compensation after all the bills get paid lol So living vicariously through these projects does me fine. 🙂👌
Well done Neil - I know how time consuming making these videos is, I did it for a while myself and decided to put it on pause to let my life happen and come back when I could find a way to better make it fit around my life. While I do love your videos about how to do specific projects, I have no doubt many of us just love your videos and will watch whatever you put up. We don't just learn from your instructions of how to do something and your experiments, we learn just as much from your decision making about any project, home projects included. I'd argue they're just as relatable because as much as your videos make me want to get big hunks of camphor laurel and black wattle and go to down, many of us watching are more regularly doing projects like the video you've got here. It's not just the content, it's you and your methods.
Definitely love house repair and improvement videos. Please do a before and after comparison at the end. Shop improvements as well. I have used some ideas to help fix up my own a few times.
No issue at all about the difference in the type of video mate, Its refreshing to see something different. Not to mention that DIY and Renovation videos do great on YT. Cheers mate, and thanks for the video.
Thanks Eric - the circular saw guide took 5 minutes to make and works fantastic. Leave the fence long when you make it, then cut it off with the saw. You can then line that edge up to the marks on your workpiece for a perfect cut. :)
The new look is awesome and a completely different aesthetic than before. I think you should leave the wood as it is and just apply a clear poly topcoat. The 'weathered' wood look adds so much character. Pretty sure we would all like to see more videos of the jobs you do around your home👍🏻
You are so talented and generous to share it all with us. About a year ago, your channel appeared on my feed. I am so happy I clicked on it. I've been enjoying you ever since. Stay safe!
We are here to watch you make something with your filiming/editing/naration style. Does not matter what that something is, I'm fairly sure most viewers will still enjoy it.
Seriously, thank you for sharing as these situations come up for all of us. Ugly metal garage ports, porch roof, etc. is something I think a lot of us identify with and it’s neat to see how you problem solve by skinning the metal structure or frame with gorgeous pine. I hope you leave the pine natural with a protective finish personally because it goes so well with your surroundings. Amazing work, share whatever you’re working on, I love it and I assume the other viewers do as well 🤟🏼
These kind of projects are just as welcome and enjoyable as the more usual fare. It gives me some great ideas about improving my own home. I have both the tools and more confidence when it comes to this sort of work so I'm actually more likely to attempt things like this myself!
2:28 it's these small "how come I didn't think of that?" improvements that draws me here mostly. A simple regular 90-degree cutting guide for the circular saw, but with a longer support piece that shows you exactly where it's going to cut so no additional measuring is needed. Great stuff.
I'll gladly watch you working on your house while procrastinating working on mine! I think these types of videos are helpful in their own right showing us homeowners what we can do to spruce up some of the more tired parts of our property.
Improved the look of the carport leaps and bounds already. Makes me want to go out and do the same to all my verendah supports. Looks like you got it done just before all this rain set in for the week.
Honestly, these videos help me learn to do skills I will more likely use in my life as a home owner. I prefer these to the art project videos so please keep making these. That said... I feel like a child when I watch the art videos because they fill me with inspiration for what can be done with simple tools applied in interesting ways.
I hope I speak for everyone when I say anything you make comes out great and videos like these help to put projects like this within reach for the rest of us. I love videos like this and if it helps you get some work done then all the better.
I enjoy your house projects. I learn something from every video. In this one I saw the jig you used with the circular saw. I had not noticed that previously. Looks like something I could use. Also enjoy the glimpses of your place....looks very nice.
Neil, I’ll watch whatever content you want to put out there. I did a similar project at my previous house - we opened up a section of the ceiling and “cathedral-ized” it. I wrapped all the truss members in rough sawn pine. It was a ton of work but it ended up looking great! Nice job!
Awesome video with some great tips, workflows and processes! If my wife sees this, I am toast since this is a far better solution to revitalizing an old patio roof than tearing it down and rebuilding it!
At 2:11. I absolutely love your homemade speed square. A simple jig like that can be a huge time saver if your using a circular saw to cut wood to length. I need to actually will build one for myself. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Honestly if you have more house projects like this I'd love to see videos about them as well. My husband and I are looking to buy very soon, so any ideas or videos that would help fix up whatever we get would be amazing!
I very much enjoyed this video, and look forward to the 2nd half and the future projects as well. I bought a 100-year-old house a couple of years ago, and this gives me some ideas for fixing it up. Great work!
Few things in life (at least to me) are as rewarding, as enjoyable and as self-affirming than working on projects on my own property and daily getting the satisfaction of looking at those accomplishments and being able to use them. Be well, mate.
If it was me I wouldn't have though the old look was too bad, but seeing how you've improved it is bloody brilliant, just shows the what a good eye can spot, I love the variety that you bring to these videos too.
I love the fact that you lost the footage and just made another brace... a lot of other channels would be like "I lost the footage of the assembly, but here is the finished product" Looks great, can't wait to see how this turns out!
I can't speak for everyone, but to me Projects are Projects. you do great work and it is interesting and educational to watch you work. Thanks for posting.
As a heritage carpenter I love this... I do so desperately want to see the smaller steel cross members on the roof clad as well! I know ot's not needed at all but I just think it would look soooo good.
@@PaskMakes the boundaries of the work we do. Love of craft but also as carpenters where do we draw the line. I am a super fan of the "lets get down to brass tax" work you do.
Looks great. Don't ever worry about whether you should make any of your projects into videos, trust me, we will watch them. Everyone can get something useful out of your videos.
Large home renovation projects are the new hotness on UA-cam. Renovation Ranch (on demolition Ranch's second channel), goonzquad, etc... I think I'm watching 5 or 6 total and love them all. KEEP GOING. GO BIGGER. THIS IS GOOD CONTENT.
I really enjoyed this video Neil. I don’t think I would like it if you switched over to only doing projects like this but once in a while these are a great change of pace. And keeping the wife happy is always a plus.
Great video. I enjoy a thing you make. I really like your spay sprayer. Any project that you work on that makes your other half happy is a GOOD project. Looking forward to the final part. Thanks for sharing.
I'd love for you to add more videos of you tinkering around the house doing projects. I find them interesting. Anyway, dunno if you have this planned, but you can dress up the bottom of the posts with a band of wood to make it look more finished and to hide the hardware.
Thanks George! I tried the bottom of the wood at different heights and I liked how it looks with just a little of the original post showing. It almost looks like a stirrup. :)
I really enjoy house projects done as well as what you do. I also enjoy other well-made videos on projects that are more in the realm, for me, of fantasy. Videos like this one motivate me to do things that actually have value in my day to day life. Thank you. Oh...and please keep doing the stuff of dreams, too....
Since starting youtube I've neglected our house and property as making videos takes up all of my time. I need to get some of those projects done so I'll probably be making a few of them into videos and killing two birds with one stone.

To be honest mate I would watch what ever you did to the house so enjoyable.
Seriously. His next video could be "I'm washing the toilet then adding a wooden seat" and i'd be like "WOW...NO WAY! LIKE".
It seems like most UA-camrs only work on projects to spruce up their homes and I cant say I blame them for it.
Ditto!
Agreed Michael, in fact seeing our hero do the kind of DIY jobs we might do is equally as enjoyable as watching him do intricate and artistically challenging projects.
Absolutely. 😊

I think it's important to remember that you have a relationship with your audience that goes beyond 'just making stuff'. To be honest with you, I'd watch this guy watching the sun set, just to see what he got up to...
Agreed. And you're honest about it with your audience. Nice change for UA-cam.
I personally think seeing you apply your skill to projects around the house would make a great series and would definitely watch.
100% agree
Absolutely. Home maintenance is a greatly overlooked activity for many people, and lots of folks tend to let things get run down unnecessarily. A series of videos working around the house would let him knock out the to-do list, and maybe inspire a few of us to take care of our own properties!

Because you can't actually say that you'd rather be in the workshop than the house, otherwise she'll have you sleeping out there for a while.

Honestly if you have more house projects like this I'd love to see videos about them as well.
My husband and I are looking to buy very soon, so any ideas or videos that would help fix up whatever we get would be amazing!
Please don't hesitate to upload videos about your house renovation, we love them.
Cannot wait to see the build of the panels for the Jasmine. Really enjoy these and all your videos.
Never hesitate to film and post ANY OF YOUR PROJECTS!!!! Always very entertaining and enjoyable!
I enjoy listening to you speak and watching you create things, I would watch a video of you folding paper and not get bored.
I love the fact that you lost the footage and just made another brace... a lot of other channels would be like "I lost the footage of the assembly, but here is the finished product"
Looks great, can't wait to see how this turns out!
I can't speak for everyone, but to me Projects are Projects. you do great work and it is interesting and educational to watch you work. Thanks for posting.
I don't even have a carport but now I wanted have one to do makeover. Great to watch every step. Looking amazing without stain or anything 😍
As a heritage carpenter I love this... I do so desperately want to see the smaller steel cross members on the roof clad as well! I know ot's not needed at all but I just think it would look soooo good.
Thanks Ryan - I did look at them but decided to stop where I did! :)
@@PaskMakes the boundaries of the work we do. Love of craft but also as carpenters where do we draw the line. I am a super fan of the "lets get down to brass tax" work you do.
Home improvement videos are my favorite kind of maker videos.
So please keep them coming :)
Lookin'great Neil, I bet you're "clad" you did it!
I love that wooden circular-saw jig you made for doing straight cross cuts.
I love this kind of content. Grew up with this old house, new Yankee workshop and hometime etc.
Nice looking result, all that working overhead can be really tiring. Can't believe your paint sprayer works nearly vertical.
Hi Pask, you can make even a carport makeover worthy of watching. Always enjoy your videos, all the best from Denmark.
Love the square with the little leg that gives u the saw offset. Brilliant
My father was a skilled wood worker. I think of my dad many times as I watch your skillful work.
I love house projects, reno series are some of my favourite guilty pleasures on youtube
You builds are always cool and tidy, but to be honest I am here to listen to your calm beeing and your soft spoken words and good advice.
This is just a demonstration of technical skills and practical applications. Love it.
Any time you can make the lady of the house happy you have had a successful day!
I really enjoyed this video Neil. I don’t think I would like it if you switched over to only doing projects like this but once in a while these are a great change of pace. And keeping the wife happy is always a plus.
More home reno videos would be awesome.
I would watch an hour long video of you where you're making Home improvements.
Your calm way of narrating your videos is always a pleasure to watch.
It's always useful to see ways to update existing stuff as well as creating new stuff. 👍
@@PaskMakes Okie dokie. Thanks for the reply. It already looks spectacular. Definitely an upgrade over before.
Always good to take care of one's home. Enjoying the videos, and there's always something to learn from them.
Thanks,
Chris

I really enjoy house projects done as well as what you do. I also enjoy other well-made videos on projects that are more in the realm, for me, of fantasy.
Videos like this one motivate me to do things that actually have value in my day to day life. Thank you.
Oh...and please keep doing the stuff of dreams, too....
