To get Brent Spiner to laugh uncontrollably, someone told him he’d playing Data again in 30 years.
Made me laugh!
In Picard trash
WITHOUT de-aging.
HAH XD too true there xD hahaha xD that proves just how natural Brent Spiner is in his role as Data no matter how old he is xD haha.
And they told him they would try to awkwardly shoehorn a romance between him and Picard
Riker: I don't need your fantasy women

After his shift ended, Worf went into the holodeck and killed things for a while in frustration.
Did you notice that he leaned over tactical when Q showed up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Killed things"... suuuuure
with a sledgehammer
Naw, both Riker AND Worf asked for their gifts back after their duty shifts....Picard got the hint and also asked for that "gift"....many other of the male officers felt left out....long story short, Q sent those two ladies to hundreds of the enterprise crew.
@@tombaker8481 Do you want Space Syphilis? Because that's how you get Space Syphilis.
"You weren't like that before the beard."
Riker's pimpology was well known even to the Q, it seems.
Per the Star Trek Omnipedia Riker's penis was asked into the Q Continuum a full two years before Riker himself was asked to join. It said no, it's power was already too great. That's why he frequents Risa regularly to help "drain" some of its energy to keep all females in a light year from it going into something very similar to the Vulcan pon farr.
Q was fond of dancing besides, on top of, and occasionally over the 4th wall.
POTENT Riker lol
I didn't notice that until now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's no way to talk about troi
Giving someone like Data the ability of laughter, even for a for a brief moment, is quite possibly the best gift anyone has ever received.
And then Geordi had to screw it up!
At a convention, Spiner said the script simply said, "Data laughs." He was nervous, but was able to pull it off on the first try. The other actors applauded (which he said is unheard of for that cast), and Stewart said, "can you do it again?" - because of the way it was filmed, he would have to do it several times so they could get it from all angles.
This is probably my all-time favorite moment in all of Star Trek, it makes me smile every time.
Brent would have made a fine Joker methinks.
"I don't need your Fantasy Women. I've got plenty of those on the Holodeck!"
Yep. I'm sure he did. Just like Barclay & Geordi.

This episode completely changed my outlook on Q. Sure he is obnoxious, annoying, but there is some good in him. And he is wise. To leave such a gift for Dats, albeit brief.
For Data, with his perfect recall, it would a gift that keeps on giving.
go look up the playthrough of the star trek borg fmv videogame. especially the one that has all the player actions that get snide remarks from Q
@@toomanyaccounts Snide he may have been but Q did allow you to save your father in that game. So in his own strange way he was “ helping you out”. See I think Q does genuinely like helping some people but he’s got to make you think he doesn’t. It’s actually very much like a cat in that respect
And don't forget that when he blows the kiss in everlasting gratitude he is moving the moon back to its normal orbit, saving the lives of millions.

@@thandokhan1962 That's exactly what happened when this scene was being filmed.
I’ve always loved how Picard snatches the cigar out of his own mouth with such a practiced hand, it’s the little things
Yeah, like either he's used to smoking or has had Q done this to him before, both options funny...
contrasting with Riker taking a moment to at least examine the quality lol
Fun Fact: John DeLancie's acting was so over the top, the rest of the cast couldn't stop laughing so the episode director decided to use wide shots with the casts' backs to the camera. When Worf leans forward and drops his head, it's actually Michael Dorn laughing.
That's awesome to learn. Shows you how good an actor is they can crack their castmates.
It's also a shame they didn't add any those reactions in.
that's AWESOME!!!
That's even funnier than my initial thoughts that everybody was just so disappointed and filled with exasperation that they just decided 'f*ck it' and went back to work. XD
Now that you mention it, you can kinda see Jonathan Frakes smiling as he looks down.
I love that ending.
Troi's face says it all when Data starts laughing. As an empath, she probably felt Data's joy!
...he's synthentic. How can she possibly feel him?
@@amitakartok the same way he felt god-given laughter if I had to guess. Given Q’s involvement in the circumstance is that really a fair question?

@@mikem10481yeah, you could see that😂
i wonder if Troi could feel joy coming from Data in that moment
How stupid is Geordi, asking Data why he's laughing, right after Q promised him a "going away present". Then Data loses that one blissful moment that may never come again to answer Geordi's stupid question.
Geordi was not in a good mood. He was not even asked if he would like those women.
Michael Dorn just bending over shaking his head in utter frustration is such a damn nice touch to this.
Look closely at his eyes when the women disappear
Kudos to whoever did the SFX cutting for that one by the way. Must have been hell to get the facial expression to line up.
Was he suffering a Romulan ale hangover at the time?
Picard too. Around the 0.32 mark, after HE’S BACK! He bows his head in utter frustration. “Aw, shit. Here we go again….”.
Fun fact, the reason he's doing that it's because he's laughing and trying to hide it. John de Lancie acting was so over-the-top that most of the crew was having issues not losing it. This is why I just seen the shot this way, because they had this specifically choose angles to hide people losing their shit
Brent is such a good actor. He made that laughter feel like it trully was out of Data`s control. The switch btw laughing and "normal" Data was done so good !
Like he was processing to recover from a "glitch"... amazing for 1980's when PC's weren't around.
@@CellGames2006 Star Trek has always been creepily prophetic with technology. Like when the Romulans used a Deepfake of Spock.
I liked the interaction between q and Data. It's too bad this wasn't expanded on in later episodes.
Maybe it will be referenced in Picard...
@@HP-mf4df I wonder if Q felt any pain when he saw Data die?
Damn right. When Q is ashamed and he goes in to talk honestly to Data is my favourite Q moment bar none and one of the best TNG moments. This is my favorite moment in tng, so many great character reactions to Qs antics.
Worf bent over in repressed rage, Picard barking "Q!" and "I don't", Rikers legendary fantasy women quote, and of course Data getting to experience emotion. Just so rewarding for the viewers.
2:38 I like this bit with Troi, it actually demonstrates what being an empath is supposed to be, not mind reading or stated the obvious, but feeling the emotions of others. It also demonstrates that Q genuinely gave Data humor or at least the feeling.
I never noticed before - but look at Worf!
"I already told him to die. Why didn't he?"
Just seen it!

The utter disappointment.
@@panteraluna5469 Which is actually the actor laughing :D the same for Riker :D but it works since we dont see their faces

Poor Worf. The disappointment in his face when the two women leave.
I feel ya Worf ol' buddy, I feel ya.
Hahaha i never noticed that before! He looks like he's about to fall on the floor and cry. LoL
Worf and his women.

0:27 Love the way that Worf slumps when he realizes he’s back.
My favorite clip. I love the mariachi band, and how happy Q is. Plus Data laughing is fantastic.
1:30 Q could have given himself any absurdly high rank, even fictional, but chose to be exactly the same rank as his old good friend Jean-Luc.
Q did it to irk Picard. Q may very well be helping humanity and using Picard to do it. However Q will amuse himself while doing so.
Stewart sells the contempt of the moment. Literally taken aback at the sight of Q in the uniform.
That moment data stops, turns, then laughs harder. It kills me! Brent must have saved every laugh he had in rehearsal to do this scene.
3:02 Troi is gone.
3:11 AAaand shes back.
Nice catch! :)
And 3:23 she is there, 3:30 she is gone again and returns at 3:41. Is her cloaking device malfunctioning?
Lmao now that's how you make an entrance.
Worf seems to disagree :)
Q was the best supporting cast of Stark Trek.
I like to think that, given that the Q are testing Humanity, the events of this episode were secretly one of these tests: to see how they would treat a great enemy that has been rendered harmless before them and completely at their mercy.
Probably put a huge feather in our cap when they showed so much (begrudging) empathy.
It’s honestly a good thing that the Enterprise is everyone’s model for humanity, because we’ve seen that the Federation is honestly far from perfect.
I love Worfs reaction when Q first shows up. Head down shaking his head. Priceless.
Imagine how many takes it took them to film this due to the actors losing it.
this would have been easy compared to the scene from the tv series "Lexx" where a robot head attached to a drone had to select a male from the US marine in the white house oval office to undergo penis removal. the aim being to have the robot head controlled drone be able to sex with a undead assassin.

Hey, Worf got seriously laid. O'Brien however should have nailed that sexy Cardassian.

a wooden leg named Smith
The thing is regardless of how Q was treated as a human by the crew, he really did mean to share the good fortune, even with worf who told him to 'die'.
Regardless of it all and Q denying he had any humanity in him, he did a lot of good before he left. I guess that's what makes Q so endearing and loved by the fans, you can never tell what Q is going to do next
He should have given Data some beans.
After that Mexican music, I could use some refried beans too!
0:26 I love how Worf is just like "For F'S sake!!!!"

One of my FAVORITE TNG moments!!! Especially, Worf's reaction of Q's return. LOL
If Star Trek TNG runs in syndication for 100 years people will say this was their finest scene.
This isn't the battle of Britain.

"I don't need your fantasy women!"
"Aahhh....but do you *want* them?"
A "residue" of humanity :) I met John DeLancie at a convention, nice guy - he's just like he is IRL :)
I love that Data in mid-laugh pauses, looks at them then laughs harder, like there's some kind of joke they aren't in on.
I love how Q calls him Picard at the end instead of Jean luc
Worf's reaction is an all time classic!
3:17 "However you did it, thank you. And Wakanda forever!"
Holy hecc the blondie was such a strong 10/10 that one could tell by her profile alone
Riker is probably the only one that could get away with that line. I would very much take his fantasy women.
Let's face it, if Troi hadn't been on the bridge he wouldn't have said a thing.
Troi knows personally that he doesn't need the help. lol
Heartbreaking: Most Annoying Omnipotent Being You Know Does Something Genuinely Considerate
A joy of an episode in a season that fully cemented TNG as the absolute pinnacle of Star Trek.
I always hated how Geordi ruined the moment for data.
This made me lose it the first time I saw it
Also Data laughing was precious in its own way
Q just let Data know how hot Riker thought those women were, how good Riker and the Captain thought those cigars were and how much everybody really enjoyed the music.
That's why when he turned he couldn't control himself the second time.
This is one of my favorite moments of TNG, when he's blowing that horn and Picard is just like hand me a phaser someone!
I love worf’s reaction when Q appears 😂😂
I had to restart this numerous times because I kept accidentally focusing on one character's reaction but everyone on the bridge did something hilarious
I'm actually rather surprised by the staging that Troi is almost completely obscured.
Scenes like this are the reason why Q is such a fantastic character.
The moment worf realized he was into other species and lays the ground work for Dax 😏
And Troi
The best gift Q ever done😂😂
to quote the Spy from Tf2 Laughter really is the best medicine!! XD HAHAHAHAHAHHA xD
I always felt that right after Picard yells "All of it!" and Q complies, Riker should have leaned to the Captain and said "Maybe just the cigars, sir?" Q would have been delighted and most viewers would have gotten a chuckle or smirk out of it.
Imagine you're an officer on the bridge enjoying the mariachi band and then Picard orders Q to make it go away. I would be screaming "Shut up Picard! I'm enjoying the music! It's nice for this bridge to feel alive for a change."
Also, who else believes that after Riker said, 'I don't need your fantasy women,' he secretly thought to himself, "cuz I can get all the real women I want whenever I want. Yeaaaaahhhhhh!"
tjwparso, you've done it! All these clips have convinced me to upgrade my TNG from DVD to Blu-Ray. Thanks for the expenditure.
Those aliens were doing the wakanda forever move before it was cool lol
This was maybe my all time favorite scene of this show. It was so well done! You really felt the joy Q had about getting his powers back as well as how he wanted to share his good fortune with the crew.
"Projected orbit is circular"
Excuse me? One last trick, eh, Q?
Thanks for the uploaded. This was a great episode
Q and the Mariachis is my fave band 😍
Love the look on Piccard's face at 4:05
"Thank you for saving our asses. ALL OF THEM.
...
...
...Well, goodbye."
"No problem. It was pleasure saving you from complete extinction."
I love how Picard treats Q, a multidimensional and high- omnipotent being, with the same level of respect as he does anyone else, and is equally as upset at his impoliteness or inappropriateness, and is also NOT AFRAID AT ALL of Q.
I'd have say this the best series variant of the various Star Trek lines. (Aside from Voyager, but that's a personal preference)
And one of the best-of several-moments of the entire series. Something a lot of folks don't seem catch in this episode though... After Data is given his sublime experience of mirth, you get a brief glimpse here in the series of his true capacity. "It was a wonderful experience." The fact he can recall and evaluate the experience afterwards, tells you-however subtly, that his design (even with the emotional chipset not installed here) is so impressive, he has the capacity to still appreciate the experience Drama-Q give him.
“I don’t need your fantasy women” is an underrated line
Best part is when Q moves the fantasy women from Riker to Worf. 😂
You know Q has to be John Delancey's favorite role ever.
Anyone else notice Worf slump over his console in disappointment when Q flashes back in after getting his powers back? 😂
A little ad lib acting from Michael Dorn I read, that direction wasn't in the script.
Something I not even heard of Angels to do laugh but Data gets a taste "Sweet",

0:23 - Worf's reaction is priceless
From what I understand, that was Michael Dorn corpsing, and they left it in anyway.

Thank you for uploading. 😁
The dejected look from Worf as soon as he appears is hilarious
LOL. Poor Worf. His reaction to Q reappearing was all like "ONE THING...I ASKED FOR ONE THING TODAY!"
One of my all time favourite episodes. The gift of laughter is priceless to Data at that point in time
Patrick Stewart is such believable actor. Almost funny seeing Picard being really aggravated of even sight of Q even with his most subtle expressions, knowing that their actors are such good buddies IRL.
Oh that Q!, such a joker 🤣
when Data started laughing for no apparent reason,
it was like being stoned, and you hear or see something
funny in your minds eye, and everyone else who isn't , is like WTF?
When I was little, I thought, "awww Geordi, why did you interrupt it!"
But since Data has perfect memory, more time would not have changed anything I guess.
The way Worf just hung his head in defeat when Q came back 😂😂😂
"But I feel like celebrating! 🥺"
"I DON'T! 😡"
😂😂😂
Shows and explains among the most prominent, and to be honest, among the most emotional moment in Trek History, when Q tells Picard" You matter to me, even Gods have favorites Jean-Luc, and you are a favorite of mine". People criticize Picard season 1 & 2, but that scene in season 2 was historic and emotional...
The crew questioned why Data was laughing. After 4.5 years in recovery, I look at this scene again and understand why. Data a is laughing because he now can.
Q merely transmuted the moon' s interior into beans. The change in mass corrected the problem.
To be acting so human was wonderful ❤
We all know that despite his denial Q actually has some decency someplace in his whatever he is.
