    One thing I've learned is that, if a movie/show is mixed poorly, it doesn't matter if you have a $300 or a $4000 center channel speaker, it'll probably still sound like
    crap. I can hear right away with most movies if it's mixed well and/or recorded well, even with my basic smaller Polk center channel in my 5.1 system. I have
    an Onkyo receiver and it hasn't caused me a single issue yet. It did take some tuning even in a small room, to get it in the sweet spot. But I can hear
    with most new films alone, if they're mixed garbage if there's no center action, or poor center action. It usually won't sound distorted, it will just lack
    clarity in the dialogue, or sound too low, level-wise, etc. I have Klipsch for my front left/rights because I wanted the sheer clarity of Klipsch. They
    definitely have delivered that.

    • @Gimmesoup88

      Yep - It's quite remarkable how much content is mixed poorly.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 Рік тому +1

      @@Gimmesoup88 It's scary for sure. The thing is I sat here months ago in my HT room, and screened Rush Live DVD (concert), and it sounded beyond belief great, like I was sitting behind Neiils' drum kit, or in front, then I screened a copy of the blu ray of Gran Torino, and, although I'd seen the DVD before, the blu ray sounded AWFUL!!! And, not only that, someone on Amazon reported they had the same exact issues with their copy, dialogue too low, sounded fuzzy, the whole mix was bad!! It looked good, but sounded atrocious. I don't recall it sounding that way on cable or DVD. Very weird. Could just be crap mastering?
      But, the RUSH live DVD sounded unreal!

    • @Zoranurai13
      @Zoranurai13 Рік тому

      And the worst thing, the better your speakers are, the more likely you will notice the mix is even worse than you thought lol

      @thiscorrosion900 Рік тому

      @@Zoranurai13 I haven't owned any super high end systems, speakers, but, I could see that if you had such a system, you'd hear bad sounding stuff even more acutely and painfully on one. It's like listening to to some old sludgy destroyed worn out 8 track tape on your brand new $20000 headphone amp and Hifiman planar heapdhones. Not really worth it.

    • @Gimmesoup88
      @Gimmesoup88 Рік тому +1

      @@thiscorrosion900 Quite funny you should mention about the difference between DVD and Blu Ray - I was watching Enemy of The State last night, it was Blu Ray tho - but the sound was Dolby D/DTS - no HD Master or TrueHD. And the dialogue was great from all the actors, no muddiness or muffled sound - but when I'm watching some Blu Ray with HD Master or TrueHD - it's like 50/50 if the dialogue is gonna be awful. I don't know what they are doing with the HD sound, but for some reason it's either a hit or a miss.

    I have a thing for Klipsch. I got a full surround setup in my house when I bought it, and it's all the good stuff from a few years ago - RC7 center and RS7 surrounds, with a pair of La Scala's for the mains. I have no notes... it's flawless. All the electronics were taken, but the speakers and screen/projector stayed with the house. I hooked up my old receiver to it and tested to see what worked, and all of it did, so I was thrilled and have been ecstatic since. I have yet to watch anything though, because the projector is simply too old - I don't have anything that connects through DVI-D anymore. I need to upgrade that to something more modern with an HDMI input and I can watch some movies, but I absolutely love the Klipsch speakers - they're rather powerful because they're super efficient. 😀

      @ice_hot it all depends how you use it in a living room set up where you are sitting on a couch let's say a 3 seat couch it should be completely fine and will sound pretty much the same in all 3 spots if you are doing a dedicated theater with rows and different heights you'll hear something different might be better might be worse a 3 way will sound pretty similar in that situation but a coaxial would be the absolute best for that kindof situation anyways I've boosted setting made some speakers 6db hotter then the others and all non audio enthusiasts couldn't tell the difference so I'd buy whatever you'd like and sit in the sweet spot

    What may be an overall better recommendation especially considering the price, is the RP500C II. I picked it up a couple weeks ago on sale for $300. If someone was able to get it for the same sales price it would be a great deal even though the performance may be slightly lower than the 4 driver. See if you can get one in for review just to compare, although I doubt it would be worth a whole new video. I’m happy with it!

    Regardless of price, I would never purchase a non-coaxial MTM center channel unless I am always going to be the sole viewer and seated directly on-axis. They exhibit very narrow, non-uniform horizontal directivity because it is effectively a standard MTM placed on its side. A sane center channel design entails either a coaxial tweeter and midrange (such as KEF) or a vertically arranged tweeter and midrange, flanked by bass midwoofers. Quite an important consideration if there are going to be multiple viewers.

    • @versaleyang
      @versaleyang Рік тому +1

      Well said, that's the exact reason why I got a KEF Q650c instead. My fronts are the RP-600M2 , yea they don't match but with Dirac it doesn't matter. The off-axis performance on a coaxial driver is much better than a MTM configuration.

    i went from a Polk RM-202 (from my first 5.1 satellite system) to a Klipsch R-34C to the RP-504Cii. I use it with a pair of RP-600Miis, along with other Klipsch and Polk speakers in my 7.2.4 bedroom HT. I'd like to get some towers for my L/R, but it'll be a while since I've recently bought a new TT (Rega P2) and phono preamp. The center channel will probably live with me for a long time.

    I have the baby brother to that monster, the original Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500C, which I use with RP-400's as left and right mains, and two Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-402S for surround. It sounds wonderful.
    I only have a 19" wide space for a center channel, so the RP-500C was as big as I could go. And yes, my center channel has two 5.25" woofers, compared to 4" woofers on everything else (except my 10" subwoofer). That was done very deliberately, as the center channel, when you do TV and home theater, is, by far, the most important speaker in a 5.1 system. It actually makes a lot of sense for it to be the LARGEST of the bunch, unless you are doing 2.0, 2.1 for music as well as 5.1 for home theater.
    I was SHOCKED at how much low-end came out of a center channel that goes down "only" to 60 hz. I had to use the internal equalizer on the AVR to set the cut-off to 80 Hz! The sound is clear and natural, and dialog is super clear. That's all I really want.
    For the $$$ spent, Klipsch and JBL make all the speakers you need for home theater. You can spend a LOT more, but why? Horny tweeters are just what you want for home theater use. That's what they use in all the movie theaters.
    And you are 100% right about JAMO....have a set of those as well for an ancient AVR that I keep i the basement. Don't really need anything beyond them.
    Welcome to the horny club.

It is so far beyond the cheap Polk center I had before, especially when watching a solidly mixed 4k blu ray. I have to keep the grill on it because it easily distracts people sitting under my TV, gold dome tweeter above a 4in mid-driver between two 6in woofers will pull your eyes right to it. Kicks ass with my Onkyo RZ-50, the Dirac calibration really helped it in my room.

    So by just starting with SVS sb 3000 sub and let's say this center channel or SVS ultra center channel, what receiver/amp is really good for a 5.1?

  • @hasanm3707

    Hello Z, I've been pondering this question lately as I'm planning out my future surround system. I came across a video and the guy talked about how the usual center channel setup (woofer-tweeter-woofer) isn't ideal because some frequencies would cancel out and the sound projection isn't wide, he referenced the globe chart.
    That limits center channels severely, not that there were much options to begin with. So is that really that important?

      It is important unless you are the only viewer and seated directly on-axis.

    I absolutely love my Airmotiv C2+ in my small tv/theater room 10'-9" x 11'-1" x 7'-5" I started with the SVS Prime and could not get it right in my setup, but this c2+ is outstanding.

    OMG why are YOU so helpless! just put tape behind the grille fabric & take Dremel tool and carefully trim the plastic that sits in front of the drivers! off the grille we have to use grilles and also build a black chicken wire cover over all the speakers to keep the cats OFF them !

    If youre interested in object based surround like Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, Auro3D, dont do it the way Zeos suggests. Object based surround doesnt depend on which sounds are mixed to each of the channels like traditional surround codecs. They place sounds in the 3D soundfield. So ideally you want identical speakers in all positions, or at least speakers timbre matched with identical drivers. Not everyone can do that, obviously, but the approach Zeos described deviates a whole lot from the ideal. If you arent interested in object based surround, then disregard what I said. Happy listening.

      Different Speakers and a room correction "device" would be much smarter than blowing money on way too expensive rear channels. Because the room correction will do more than just match the speakers.

    • @ajzepp8976
      @ajzepp8976 Рік тому

      @@miagi1337 Not in my experience, at least with the bed layer, but everything is a trade-off. I use Anthem ARC room correction, and when I went to all the same speakers for the bed layer, my atmos films improved significantly vs my previous set-ups. Its just a completely different approach to surround mixing vs the traditional surround sound.

    • @ajzepp8976
      @ajzepp8976 Рік тому

      @@miagi1337 Also, this isnt just personal experience or an opinion. I converted a room to a theater in 2019 and did a ton of research. I encourage anyone interested in Atmos etc to check the suggested guidelines and get as close to them as possible. If I had done as Z suggested - which is how I used to do things previously too - and then found out how much different object-based guidelines are after just spending a bunch of money the old way, I wouldve been pretty frustrated. I get really impressive effects within the 3-dimensional soundfield largely because my bed layer is identical. I couldnt afford to upgrade the atmos channels, but I def plan to driver match those as best I can when the budget permits. But its important for people to know just how different the approach is now with these codecs. Its not just more speakers, its a completely different way of recreating the soundtrack.

      I mean yeah if you're building a legitimate Atmos but most surround receivers can all I still do a limited number of speakers. Honestly those setup should be Limitless but the hardware does not exist for the consumer market right now

    so im i rigth, when i wrote a guy. that there is a reason, that proffesional home theater builder. build square rooms, because a square room gives the best sound?
    because why would all big home theater audiofiles, always build square rooms? imo this guy, was a idiot. for replying to me, that a square room would do nothing to the sound being better!!

    You want a horny center? I just picked up a Klipsch Legend Series KLF-C7 center, which has dual 8" woofers and the same horn loaded tweeter from the KLF series. It really does sound amazing! Left and right I have the classic KLF-10's, along with two 10" klipsch subs. Rear I have two 6.5" Klipsch towers and a near field Klipsch RP-1200SW. For Atmos I have four Klipsch 8" in ceiling speakers. Driving this I have a Yamaha RX-A8A and Yamaha PC2002 (front channel amp). Can you tell I like Klipsch? Lol
