- So we thought this would be a quick and easy video in our Project Traxxas Maxx Build, but it turns out we had a lot of information to share. It’s the time in the build where we are taking a look at option parts for the shocks. Traxxas offers aluminum shock caps and aluminum shock collars with o-rings for the Maxx shocks. These are some nice and worthy options to consider and of course they are available in a variety of colors. The other information we wanted to share was about oil in the shocks. More specifically how to change out the oil if you feel you need to tune your Maxx. This project is coming along great, make sure you don’t miss a single episode!

Pro tip: When you cycle the piston up and down to get the air out move it as SLOW as possible. Move to fast and it will create infinitely small bubbles that are very hard to get out. Moving it slowly will create very large bubbles that will rise to the surface very quickly. Love the vid's keep it up.
Wish I would have seen this comment a week ago, fairly new to the RC hobby and changed out my oil for heavier weight and I cycled the piston fairly quick and ended up with a zillion tiny bubbles that barely moved to the top. Now I know lol
Ideed it is a pro tip..
Great series guys. Looking forward to wide arm build.
Thanks for including the links to the parts!
Thanks For Doing These Video Builds
Thanks for the in-depth review. You show how to mount then, and why you bought them. Nice videos. if I dont know something in the rc hobby, I always go here. And I ALWAYS get a answer because of your awesome videos.
Love the series. Especially when i have the featured vehicle.👍 Took a look at these parts , Ouch $50 for the caps and $20 for the collars. Just got wide kit and a new servo. Real quick this'll be approaching the $1000 mark. Awesome truck but hurts the wallet pretty quickly.
Yes, it is a 1k truck, that is exactly what I have in mine. It is what it is. The way I understand it, Traxxas would sell exactly 0 1000.00 1/10 maxx trucks. The/ultimate doesn’t exactly fly off the shelves...And that thing is a bargain.
@@jgrc73 I have had my maxx for 6 months and the thing has been super durable. Definitely the most durable RC I have owned. I still enjoy it.
I have a e revo version one, I know , old. Still, paid a good fee back then and it sits under the bed broken because I jumped it less than 40 cm and shock cap broke . Cheap traxxas bastards!
wow what a good vid with all these awesome explanations for a nood like me. keep it 🆙 👍
Thanks bud video helped me a lot to properly do this thanks !!👍🏽
Great video Greg! Looking forward to the next one👍👍
Thanks!! 👊
The spring retainers are a big yes, but the alloy shock cap is a bad idea.
The plastic stock caps can break off the top loop if you crash hard enough, but the alloy ones are likely to pull out the mounting screw and part of the bulkhead which is a much more expensive repair.
Always allow for weak spots on your RC to save more expensive parts around it.
That is not gonna make the alloy heads happy but it does make sense. Maybe I should remove those custom alloy steering arms back to plastic or get that result 🤪👍
Seems where fixing what's not broken for a orange color
Nice and consistent videos
One of the best how to fill shock oil videos I've seen yet. Good job, great information.
👍 looking good
Great video👊🏾✌🏽
This series is great, could we see an on road vehicle like the 4 tec 2.0 next?
Next one will most likely be my X-Maxx update. But I’d certainly like to get to my 4-Tec at some point.
@@rcdriver makes sense to do the xmaxx right after the maxx
I use 80w all round it handles a lot better
Did you still use stock springs ?
@@bogtrotter10 yes
Hey Greg can yo please please review the traxxas E-Revo 2.0 because it is my favourite rc truck
Mine too
Yeah, Erevo 2.0 is the best. A serie of vídeos like that with the 2.0 will be epic!
Ordered the collars, but $50 for the caps is crazy when you can get the same aluminum caps for the Slash, Stampede, Rustler, and E-Maxx for $14. Gonna wait til that price comes way down.
Jus bought some today for my maxx v2 and yup still same price
1 shock on 4truck vs 1 shock only goes on 1 truck. Wonder why? plus it's bigger too.
First comment. Love your videos
I want a new motor/esc combo in my 1/10 and I didn’t know whether I should go with a Castle 1/10 motor or go with a Trinity Revtech certified plus? I don’t do any spec or racing but I was the best most reliable and programmable combo while also being fast with no price range!
So on my caps the ball joint pushed the 2 ring that hold the ball in out away from the cap
Do you also have changed the springs when changing the damper oil? I thought we need stifer springs for 50w oil.
Do you use 50wt in front and 60wt back, right? Thanks!
Well these caps look nice but 3 of 4 balls have come apart and I have had to locktight the press in peice in. Hopefully that will help them stay together.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll certainly report if I encounter this once I go run the truck with the options.
Thanks for this. How many mm did you set the front and rear collars at after changing to heavier weight oil?
Could you put a link to the shock oil you used?
Hi, will the Maxx shockers fit a Stampede 4x4?
Very informative as always 👍🏻😎
Are the aluminum parts lighter than the stock ones?
Sometimes I hate you. You review something, I buy that something. Ok, maybe my wife hates you.
Keep up the great work!
Is this the same as in a 2yr old x maxx?
Do they fit gtr shocks on xo1 those alu upgrades
so,..... no lock tight?
Greg: you should unbox and bash the traxxas bandit. It's starting at 150$$ i would be happy if you do that video.
What’s the best way to get ahold of you ???
I didn't know the fronts and rears were different. What can I use to identify front shocks from rear shocks now that I've had them off the truck for a week?
Usually the rears are longer
@@johnnycash7803 Not the case on a maxx
@@tomv3361 you're right. Got a one a few months back. u have to go off the springs.
90wt oil all around with spring up grade and screw the wide max kit! My mini bulldog is a beast but if you like hearing body slap stay with 50-60 hahah slap that ass
Big question what is the rebound for
Some people don’t put rebound and some do the half shaft to get rebound
I believe that the rebound happens because of the air pressure. Shocks are built to use pressure as a form of cushioning. Therefore, there are videos that specialize in rebound that leave it at maximum. By the way, if the car is heavy as Maxx, the ideal is to have the maximum pressure and rebound. But if you are going to jump three meters, I also recommend using a 320WT oil. It certainly is from there upwards. The equivalent of 320WT is 4000cst.
i think you should have skipped to Widemaxx kit because those driveshafts you will not need them and these optional orange arms aswell
I’ve talked to a few people that prefer the standard set-up. Everyone has their own driving style and likes so there’s no harm in showing what’s out there to help all those interested.
Plastic ones can't you just put alittle hot glue so don't move. Seems like a color change is all
Why would you want to put glue on a shock and it's cap???? What if you need knew fluid?!?!?
How much oil goes to two shocks, is one bottle enough?
If you stay with the same weight front and rear, you should grab two bottles.
@@rcdriver Thanks bro 👍🏻
One bottle is enough for all four vs having a extra bottle around only #1 is necessary. Buy a weight of two different kinds to play with is my advise this guys just selling shit
Truck is sitting flat add some rebound
I’ve had my xmaxx 40 plus feet in air and had some wicked crashes and never broke a shock cap. Shock collars never moved either ………. I feel like this is a promotion for useless traxxas parts. You also moved that piston way too fast , and that can generate more air bubbles that are larger and harder to remove.
I actually snapped one of my shock caps after using it only a few times. decided to swap all them out for aluminum after that
It was nice to know what weights of oil he used.
Traxxas think they slick. This truck is 550, it should have aluminum caps from the factory.
It's getting too orange for my taste. But ehhh
This truck was a waste of money mine is not what I thought it would be
Oh why?
@@tomv3361 because for this amount of money shouldn’t need another 500$ worth of parts it’s always upside down and the diff blew in the first 2hrs
Those parts are really unnecessary
I popped the plastic cap off of my stock Rustler's shock after doing a few jumps. The aluminum shock caps, or going with all aluminum big bore shocks is a very necessary upgrade.
@@rdk_metalmelter1250 Not the case with Maxx tho.
@@tomv3361 I just now broke the plastic cap on my rear shock.
@@mac6452 lol what have you done?
@@tomv3361 I literally brock the shock in half, bent the housing. Landed right on the right rear tire. No more than 5 feet off the ground.
At the price point of 559.00 they should have put all this shit
