Years ago, 1979, saw a band called The Invaders play a small pub near Thorne Doncaster called the White Hart. Older brother took me and a few of my mates. Those days were full of so many new sounds and styles of music, punk, metal, dub, and stuff defying classification. Then this band, The Invaders . There were less than 20 people there. Made a huge impression, disorientating, balance shifting sounds and moves, an almost skinhead style, and the band were properly aggressively nutting each other. I never forgot The Invaders, and only discovered that they became Madness 6 months ago. Doubt any film of the gig was ever made, but the memories and ethereal sounds have stayed with me.
@@fruitcake4t no blood spilt fruitcake. I was 17, the whole band looked like aggressive psychos, and it looked real enough to me. Could've been swan lake they were playing and maybe the same stage routine before they toned down the nutting, cos I do remember the disbelief at what I was seeing.

It wasn't really a cover of the original Tchaikovsky version. They totally copied Montego Mellon's version. They did the Ska/ Reggae version of it first. Madness just copied that.
Chas at his best but didn’t last long , The Prince , Night boat to cairo Whistle test , One step beyond, and this . It went pop after that .3 years brilliant dance then mainstream.

@@darganxthank you for setting it straight. I just watched this awesome video (first id seen it but ive been a madness fan since i was 15). He was Suggs mate. I Think I read somewhere he was the son of a man Suggs mum used to date or something like that. Chalky & Toks used to be roadies or handy men for Madness. As well as Brendan, Chas' younger brother, they did merchandise and stuff like that. Chalky and Toks are in Take It Or Leave It Movie as themselves
They were roadies and on the door , they got me and my brother into a Madness gig in 1980 , felt sorry for us as we didnt have tickets but had been told we were on the guest list 😂....lovely blokes ,just dont get on their bad side ☺️

This is so great, best ska band ever
Certainly the most successful, though from 1981 onwards they played less ska and more their own brand of pop.
Best Ska band ever???? Get a grip. Educate yourself. if you listened to original Jamaican ska you wouldn't say something as foolish as that.
