This theme is actually badass.
Picture a young lad sitting in front of the TV watching DBZ Kai on NICKTOONS. He's seen it all before on Toonami, and aside from a few things, Kai doesn't really feel much different from what he's already seen. "Oh, right Trunks fought Cell here, completely forgot, doesn't he lose? Pfft, guess I'll just-!." Cue "The Lone Warrior"...
As someone who'd already seen all of Z up to this point, once this damn song started playing it didn't matter if I knew the outcome of the fight, I was hooting and hollering for Trunks as if I had never heard of Dragon Ball in my life, in a fight that, to me was mostly forgettable. Probably one of the crowning moments of the Kai dub (and one of my favorite DBZ memories), and on Nicktoons, no less. Props to whoever made that decision.
Hehe Kai had GREAT music. This is one of those tracks.

As for his efforts, I'd say he set himself up for failure in the end. Now, before you judge me, hear me out.
Actions have consequences, and Trunks' messing with time comes with the consequence of Zamasu and Black.
As Black explained to Trunks, he went back in time to save Goku from his heart virus. If he had died as history originally recorded, then time would never have been split. Goku never would've challenged Zamasu, and he would've never taken his body.
It may not be fair to Trunks( *trust me, I know* ), since all he wanted to do was to save his timeline, but he technically brought it on himself. Again, as Black says, "the next time you mourn your people, remember they're dead because of you."
Say what you will about Super Saiyan Rage, but I love how Black and Zamasu's words were the trigger, along with all the hell he suffered through. It was kinda an asspull, I will admit, but DB is full of asspulls. I'll still take that over Beast Gohan any day.
Again, feel free to say what you will, but I also like the fact that Zamasu was the one villain they couldn't defeat. It makes him a lot more memorable, and plus he's a great villain overall, IMO.

For as much crap as Nicktoons Kai got they actually did play this. Gotta give respect where it's deserved.
Wait, what do you mean? I don't remember Kai getting any bad rep. It was fucking great. It was DBZ without the fillers and in HD. Who was complaining?
GamingEXpert21 There were a lot of people who weren't found of it for several reasons. New voice actors for Gohan and Frieza(who were better in my opinion), certain scenes taken out due to being filler, and a different score. The fact that 4Kids censor a lot of the show adds to the hate. But I still loved it.
+MaxSpeed There is an uncut version. I caught it several times on Cartoon Network, at about midnight on Saturdays. It's so much better.

I love the uncut version, I'm actually okay with the Nicktoons version, but the 4kids version was inexcusable...

This theme itself is reflective of Trunks himself and his character progression.
In the beginning, the pace of the song started very slow and the percussion was more submissive. It’s reminiscent of Trunks’s despair, angst, and apathy he holds for the world around him. More importantly, he hates himself. For his own inability.
But once the percussion and pace pick up after the intro, he finds hope. Bulma has finished the time machine. He takes it, turns the dial back and tries to redo his fate.
By the middle, after the androids make short work of him and he learns of a bigger threat caused indirectly by him, he takes off to get as powerful as he can to quell the androids, and possibly clean his mess. This is shown by the second chorus’s guitar string, as it plays very strong, yet humble and hungry; like he still has more to accomplish.
Then near the end, after Cell is defeated in the main timeline, Trunks heads back to his timeline to eliminate the androids once and for all. And kill the new Cell. He’s realized something this time around: because he trained with the Z-Warriors, he has so much power; he doesn’t know what to do with it! He was now powerful enough to swat the androids like they were mere bugs!
And no androids means an Imperfect-and MUCH weaker Cell-that he wiped just as easily as the androids prior. Trunks is at the end of his quest, across all limits, including even time and space itself. His journey-years of anguish and heartache-was over and done with. In the final chorus, the guitar is now far more wild and confident, almost in a triumphant way. Trunks is celebrating his victory against the world’s evil. No longer would Trunks allow the world to be in danger. He was the Ultimate Z-Warrior.

I remember first hearing this and I was like "why did someone start singing in another language all of a sudden?" Kudos to the american broadcasters who kept the insert song intact!
This is legendary! One of the reasons why I still appreciate Kai for what it is and how it was made, and also why I still appreciate and accept the original Japanese soundtracks; even if this wasn't actually in the original Japanese dub, it shows that the Japanese can still pull out some really awesome OST's!
thankfully its still in the series even with the Kikuchi replacement. Sadly and stupidly, they removed the song when Gohan becomes SSJ2

@@1stnaruto I know this is six years later, but I think the ONLY possible reason why that awesome STORY DEFINING insert song was replaced in the Kai re-score was simply because the song didn’t have any lyrics in it. I understand they couldn’t have known that the original music was going to be switched, but IF ONLY the producers who originally composed it thought ahead! XD Gohan’s best moment could’ve been awesome in US Kai like in the original Japanese ost of Z instead of just feeling like an unexciting “Oh, that moment was important?” as it feels with the rushed & sloppy OG Z JP ost re-score.

I'm a Bruce fan and I don't blame you. This track and Super Dragon Soul were badass. DBZ Kai also had some cool tracks in the Buu Saga as well.

***** Super really isn't using the same style as Kai. In some areas but not a lot. And the reason they won't use Kai's ost is because songs were plagiarized since the composer was a bit known for plagiarizing songs.
wasn't Lone Warrior in the re-edited versions of Kai as well?
They actually played this song while using the OST of the original DBZ in Kai so it could've been been reused in the Future Trunks saga but it wasn't.

Imagine this in Super:
Goku Black and Zamasu have defused like in the manga. Goku Black betrays Zamasu and has evolved into even more like Goku and now demands a one on one fight from Gonu himself to see who is the superior Son Goku. Meanwhile, Zamasu has lost his immortality and Trunks, with the help from his friends, creates his energy sword and fights Zamasu with this song.

See, this is why Kai is superior. I felt nothing during this fight in the original, but this made me realize the tragedy of Trunks' character, and made me care for him to win. CHANGE THE FUTURE!!!!

I remember when I was small kid watching the original Trunks vs Cell fight. I wanted Trunks to win so bad. He without doubt went through more than any of the Z-fighters except maybe Vegeta. Would've been something if Vegeta could've gotten up and Trunks could've just Heat Domed Cannoned Perfect Cell like he did to his timeline's.
