I wish I’d given Baby Pac-Man more of a chance when it was still in arcades. As much as I love pinball now, it was totally lost on me prior to 10 years of age. I’d also never seen a dedicated Jr Pac-Man cabinet. Every time I played it, it was in a converted Super Pac-Man cabinet with stickers covering “super” with “Jr Pac-Man.”
Nick Falkner I saw Baby Pac-Man one time at a local arcade and am happy now that I played it back then. I have seen only one dedicated Jr. Pac-Man at a laundromat in the town where I grew up. These days the laundromat is a pharmacy.
We had one in our Aladdin’s Castle for a very short time. I played it several times before they pulled it - I only ever saw it played once by someone besides me. It frustrated me due to the higher difficulty level over the original, so I would never spend more than one or two tokens on it per trip. I was kind of bummed when the game disappeared from Aladdin’s and I remember looking all over town to find one again. I don’t know why it fascinated me so much, especially since I sucked so bad at it, I guess it was just the constant Pac-Man hype that was in the air during that short but intense period of time.

ive played this thing in person at Galloping Ghost Arcade and I can say for sure that having to earn the power pellets heavily unballances the game, if everything there wasn't on free play I would have felt ripped off to lose at Pacman in under a minute, it also doesn't help that the ghost get started right away leaving you a moment having to scramble to the joystick to control the video game portion.
I've only encountered one of these cabs at a County Fair back when it was new. I recall playing it only once or twice on account of its brutal difficulty. There was always 3 huge tents of cabs and tables and I only had so many quarters to go through.
Man, in my youth I saw one of these in the wild at a Malibu Grand Prix. For years, no one would believe me that this weird Pac Man / Pinball hybrid existed.
This is a classic. There is another hybrid game that also used the Vidiot board set that Baby Pac-Man does, called Granny and the Gators, and that is a really fun game.

@TJ You can google "inspiration of pac-man", or something like that. Most of what I read state that he later admitted that the pizza idea was only "half true". So take what you will from it.
In reality, it appears Namco just stole the idea from Tomy, and Tomy for some reason didn't sue them. The toy company Tomy had a line of "Pac-Man" coin banks that predates Namco's video game by several years. Later, Tomy made a spin-off board game based on these banks called "Pac-Man Game". Played this about 15 years ago at a mini-golf course in Destin, Florida. I'd never heard of it, and threw at least $5 into the game. The playfield was either warped or the floor was, because that ball never moved right.
I’d think it would not be very hard to do a home conversion of this.. I hope we ultimately get more complete Pac Man compilations featuring the more obscure games of the series.. I’ve always personally liked Super Pac Man especially the C64 version..
I remember playing this exactly once, at a flea market, not too long after it came out (maybe '83 or '84), and then never seeing another machine after that. I still don't think I've laid eyes on an actual machine since.
One of my "if I had obscene amounts of money" dreams, I'd get a custom MAME cabinet built with dual screens and load it up with the main Pac games including both Mr and Mrs, and Baby. That would also include the better clones and knock-offs. PS, the 7800 homebrew plays pretty good.
Back in the early 90s, the first school I went to had a small arcade, and they had one of these machines. The game was hard for five year old me, but it left me wanting more. I was wondering why Bandai Namco never ported the game to any of the dual screen handhelds, or even the Wii U, but then again, they probably wouldn't want to touch this one with a ten foot pole.
They have one of these at our local nickel arcade. We always try to play it because it is so unique. It is a lot of fun, but it is way too hard. The ghosts can change directions on you, and there are not many escape routes. It is very difficult to complete mazes without power pellets. Unfortunately, getting power pellets in the pinball game is also too difficult. The problem is that when you hit the targets to spell out PACMAN, the ball will often rebound right down the middle of the playfield and right between the flippers. Then you are back on the video game without enough power pellets to complete it. It looks like the MAME version has better rebounding logic for the targets. That version could be more fun.
Even I of being 55 years old nowadays Had Pac Man Fever at times alot back in those Arcade Days But Yet I noticed maybe nooone besides me actually had Ms Pac Man Fever though?
I've never really looked into the old Pac-Man spinoffs from Williams/Bally/Midway, honestly. But I gotta say, this one seems _real_ interesting to me :D I mean, pinball + video games is hard to screw up, and while I know there are games like _Rollers of the Realm_ and _Momonga Pinball Adventure_ nowadays that do interesting hybrid designs, I just think that central gimmick of having a game character travel between pinball board and in-game is *really neat.* I wish I've seen this.... ever, but I'm afraid it's never been in an arcade I've visited. I'll be on the lookout now though! I'm actually shocked that Midway didn't just invent their own replacement character after Namco took Pac-Man away from them - it reminds me of when Konami looked at Hasbro Interactive's 3D _Frogger_ games for the PS1/PC/Dreamcast, and said, "Hey, we own that! We want that money, I mean, game IP!" and started making their own _Froggers_ for awhile, so the developer of those _Frogger_ games ended up making _Zapper: One Wicked Cricket_ instead? Spite-fueled copycat characters seems like a thing that should happen in this industry more often, lol.
That last video of the authentic arcade game is from Joe's classic arcade games. You should give credit on screen or in the description when using content from other channels. He's a cool dude. I dont think he'd mind.
You should have mentioned the other video/pinball hybrid game that Bally Midway produced (Granny and the Gators) which had significantly lower production run.
I saw one once and only once a very long time ago at a mall down in Orlando. I wasn't very good at it, but thought it was a neat idea. Too bad they couldn't make any home video game ports of it.
Another game I remember from the TomorrowLand Arcade in Disneyland. If there was a cool game somewhere in the world they usually had one there. Just like the holographic one you covered. Good stuff!

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I secretly hope it's revived one day. Not this game but the hybrid for another game.
Correction, Bally has been making pinball machines since the 30's. Just 40 or so years offf.
1:50 LOL JD Harmeyer from the Howard Stern show. What a beautiful creature, they're now divorced.
We have one in our garage that’s missing it’s ass,and needs a lot of tlc,but that baby will rock again, and soon.⚡️
One of my favourite arcade games! Very challenging but addictive! My local barcade has one!
I remember seeing this at a resort/casino in South Africa in the 1980s. Unfortunately I was unable to play it. It left an impression on me, though.
It is definitely unique
Mike matei from cinemassacre loves this arcade and genuinely wishes it made a comeback of some sort.
I always enjoyed the game
I played this game once. It was at a Showbiz Pizza when I was 9. Game frustrated me so much I never wanted to play it again.
Sorry to hear that, I always enjoyed it
Thanks to Bally Midway we at least got the Pac-Man family and some great characters that would show up in the World games
I remember seeing this and wanting to play. It was hard then, but the pinball aspect was always fun. However, the ghosts were crazy.
You rock Patman!!!
Thank you :-)
I actually had a board game of Pac-Man as well. The game played across between Sorry/Pachisi/Parcheesi and Hungry Hungry Hippos.
I had that along with donkey Kong but both are very fun to play
The idea seems interesting, but also tough considering then combined gameplay with this Baby PAC-Man game.
It was pretty tough
I remember seeing and playing a prototype pac baby machine at a laundry mat I used to go to with my mom back in the early 2000's
I can still almost taste the pacman popsicles. So good.
Mame version turned out rather well all things considered. Nothing beats real hardware but it works in a pinch
Even I of being 55 years old nowadays Had Pac Man Fever at times alot back in those Arcade Days But Yet I noticed maybe nooone besides me actually had Ms Pac Man Fever though?
Was able to play recently at Electromagnetic Pinball in Pawtucket RI. So awesome but yes soooo difficult
Yes it is
I've never really looked into the old Pac-Man spinoffs from Williams/Bally/Midway, honestly.
That looks like a lot of fun. I want a Pacsclator in my house.
LOL so do I
I still have a pac man rug. Its next to my bed and I use it every day. Still holding up really well. My cat likes to hide under it as well.
LOL
That last video of the authentic arcade game is from Joe's classic arcade games. You should give credit on screen or in the description when using content from other channels. He's a cool dude. I dont think he'd mind.
@@one7decimal2eight Oh man, usually I do and I have credited him many times in the past because he does pose such great videos.
Good stuff!
Thank you very much :-)
Such a rare cabinet and yet one was in my area.
