Great video. Merle was my uncle. He was married to my aunt Mary. I remember as a kid going to Mose Rager's house, in Drakesboro, KY. where I grew up. As kids we were always surprised who would pull in at Mose's house. Chet Atkins, Grandpa Jones. Mose entertained us all, in the summer he would set on the porch and play. Thanks for the video, it's a good video when I can break it down in my tiny brain. Nice playing.

@@ddss6227 You are correct, and other white players as well. Merle was not the very first but further developed what others played and became the famous one followed of course by Chet.

Hey, it took me 5 years of playing guitar to lead up to and learn Classical Gas so that seems like realistic goals. I believe in you!

No, it really doesn't. I started 2 months ago thinking it's not possible for me, but now I know it just takes some work and tolerance of frustration :-) If I can do it, you can do it.

Could you just please tell me what microphone you're using to talk into? I'd really appreciate it if you could, it sounds very good, but I know this is an older video, so maybe they have a much better one now, anyway come on hope to hear from you, and BTW, I really think you're a great player.

Nice lesson and playing. Out of interest, are you using 10 gauge (thin) strings? I ask as your guitars bass/treble seemed a little thin for this style. However, it could just be the recording ..or my speakers here :)

I have gone to the end of the earth in search of a video of how to do the Travis Pattern B and I cannot find it anywhere. If anyone would be so kind as to leave a link to a video, I would be eternally grateful.

I'm pretty sure it's just alternating between the low E and the b string

Just slow it down on the gear thing on you tube, watch it about 100 times, or buy the instructional materials for I think 28$,
I found a video by Jason Loughlin on fingerpicking patterns that is pretty close to pattern B, (And pattern A), just google that. It's not exactly what Alonzo is doing but very similar. I guess this was posted a year ago, so I am posting this for anyone else with the same issue as Jacob.

Not an ideal lesson as your guitar is out of tune, and you're playing a lot of the chord voicings wrong, including unnecessary open strings ringing.

You need to post a video of how to do it correctly then. He was taught this by the best Merle Travis picker in the world.....
