I have watched hundreds of instructional videos and I can honestly say that this is the best one I have ever seen. He is speaking my language.

You are correct. He points this fact out in the full video. Good job in catching that!

This is one of my favorite teaching videos. I bought the DVD many years ago, fun to watch and I learned a lot which I have now forgotten.

My understanding (from an old article) is that the real identity of his father was kept a secret from him for years. When he was finally told, he'd been using Bresh for so long and had thought of his step father as his father.

It didn't become public knowledge until his step dad passed away.

I'm just now discovering you, Thom, and it feels like I just joined the coolest gang in the world learning how to Travis pick with you! How the hell did I not know about you before 2 days ago?

Thom is Merle's son. It's a very cool video. I got a lot of insight into Travis Picking from it. --Adam Traum

Homespun has helped my practice and playing so much since I found them. If you like the snippets posted here you'll love the full dvd's.
Not to mention the books you won't find at the big box music wherehouses!
I highly recommend their products and sensibilities!

Reading some of the comments here re using your thumb of your left hand when playing. Here is Thom in his younger days with a short clip giving a lesson on a thumb over the top style of picking
