Subscribed to you near your start, I'm a 68 year old retired drywall/ superintendent. My life involves years of collecting,I believe ats34 was the steel of the day when I started paying attention to steel . I unsubscribed to all knife channels but yours a couple of years back. My collecting started getting into the two thousand dollar per knife range so I cooled my heels, as you know that's a stretch for a construction worker, but I still enjoy your channel from time to time. Your passion for blades reminds me of mine when I was your age. Thanks for your time.

I don't mind sharpening every once in a while, so D2/k110, nitro-v, 9cr18, 14c28n are fine for EDC folders.
For bushcraft/survival knives 1095 is my preference due to very easy sharpening. Definitely impressed by cruwear, magnacut, k390, and various other "super steels" .... Just thinking i can wait for them to be a little more affordable like I waited for D2 to be more affordable.

I wouldn't hold my breath with some of those steels

Checking out all the hardness spreadaheets there is a spread of cruware spydercos between 61 and 64 some outliers out of that range but the average between 61-63 depending on the year of manufacture.
The benchmade adamas is one of the only ones i found and they were poking between 63 and 65rc. (Prior cruwear i couldnt find data for).
With that info you can look at the crucible datasheet to see which protocol each brand is using. Earlier Spyderco are in the 61-62 range and more recent ones span the whole range 61-64 as far as I can tell.

It would appear (have not confirmed) but according to the datasheet...
      Spyderco aust 1950F (1065C) and temper 950F (510c) for 62-64rc
Its possible older spyderco may have used a lower aust for 61-63 range.
      And
      Benchmade aust 2050F (1120C) and temper 1000F (540c) for 63-65rc.

Outpost76 did a benchmade adamas at 63 rc and did around 350ft give or take and a Spyderco manix2 at 64rc that did 370 give or take.
He did change angle with each test on the benchmade.

A lot of blade sharpening is good judgement and intuition

36:00 civivi knives does nitrov kinda low sometimes. Check out doodys daggers cut test on the one he did last by civivi/we. Ill have to check later to see all the hardness spreadsheets to see how they all compare from brand to brand. But Millet knives did the best production nitrov that ive seen.

Going to drop m opinions here cause I've had a few beers and why not. Of the steels I have tried, 2 "super steels" stand out. Rex45 and cruwear. I havean extreme adversion to chips in my blade. These are the 2 that don't. Of the "super steels" that I have tried. "Super steels" means chippy and hard to sharpen. If you know how to sharpen a knife, these are the only 2 I can recommend of the ones I have tried. I do still like me k390 endura although it has a few chips in it. 14c28n is hard to beat in performance per dollar. The "toughness" tests on steels have very little if any bearing on which steels
will hold the most acute angle without chipping or rolling. This is the information I want to know . Nobody can design a test that measures this? Rex 45, cruwear, and 14c28n are my favorite, S90v and k390 chip but I still like them. H2 is a bottom of the barrel absolute do not buy crap steel. I would like to try magnacut.

I have tried using spyderco pm2 cruwear and benchmade mini adamas cruwear both in 17degree, edge to edge cut eachother, and benchmade cruwear sure heat-treated softer

yeah it is it cut around 300 feet, while others were closer to 350, which is alot in a one inch section
