Not all EVs are created equal, look at Teslas statistics, far safer and less chance of a fire than any internal combustion engine. Not the same for an fpace or bolt. Just like some ice cars are more prone to fires than others. Depreciation will continue to happen because tech continues to advance rapidly just like when the iPhones where first emerging they didn't even have 3g tech, then when the 3gs came out the original was basically worthless same for the 4g and 5g models... This is know as the obsolescence curve. The reason you don't see this in ice cars is they are basically the same tech for the past 100 years with very minor interior charges and minor engine upgrades not huge leaps forward.

Fun Fact: ISEECARS study shows that, in general, cars are holding value better now than cars in 2019. In 2019, depreciation was 50% over five years, and now it’s down to 39%. However, electric cars, the fastest-depreciating segment, still hover around that 50% depreciation point. So basically, EVs depreciation remained historically steadily, while gas cars depreciation slowed a bit. However, factoring maintenance and gas. The minimumal difference becomes irevlovent.

From an engineering perspective I’d like to see if they can reach the peak efficiency on the engine while charging under normal driving, while keeping it dynamic enough to adapt to changing loads/driving. Then from a user perspective on how that info is relayed to the driver, and how the driver can adjust different control states. I would also like to see maybe a dynamic intelligence control algorithm to fit in and account for decay variables for the battery and motors overtime. If you could do a test drive when the vehicle comes out, as well as discuss how you feel about the vehicle control dynamics from a fresh perspective that would be cool. The EQS losing 70% in two years doesn’t really make me feel too great about my ‘22 Charger WBSP losing ~40% in the same amount of time. I put down 10% with got 4.94 APR and am STILL upside down around $4K, even having made payments $150 over on principal. I can’t imagine how upside down the average new car buyer has been in recent times. Though the V8 mopars are all essentially used now, you’d still be better off buying a used *anything* as clearly owner #1 has taken the massive initial depreciation hit. Truth be told average buyers also simply don’t have cashiers checks for 30% down lying around, let alone for weekend toys… and lack of that means lack of negotiating and buying power. And I make $135K a year - the average person doesn’t - with only $10K credit debt and a $1000 mortgage - so what kind of a position do average buyers find themselves in???

Here is an angle that most people don’t think about-and more relevant to EVs because they tend to be more expensive. Spending $75k on an EV, say the Charger Scat Pack, vs a two or three year old ICE scat pack for, say, $40k. If you’re 30, 35 years old for example, that $35k difference would be around $200k if invested otherwise, with even a modest return after 30 years. So even allowing for gas savings be cost to charge, it’s not in any way a wise investment-and they’ll both be likely very close in value in just a couple of years.

They're 40K now, but you can still lose half you money, in a year. There's no repairing them, when they're out of warranty. They will continue to dive into the ground, as there's no let up, on EV depreciation. They're electric appliances, so they'll depreciate like a laptops, and cell phones. If it catches fire, you'll wish your battery failed.

I disagree on a few points relative to EVs. First, one can charge at home for a fraction of the cost at say Electrify America or Tesla. Additionally, many of the EV makers now have partnership agreements, where they can not only charge on the J1778 fast charging networks, but also the Tesla stations. I cannot deny that Electrify America has had station issues, that I have personally experienced as an EV user. As far as degradation, the battery will degrade at a corresponding rate to that of an ICE vehicle. At approximately 7 years or use, your battery will hold approximately 85% of the charge from when it was new. Also, cost, if one goes and looks at the new Equinox EV, it is starting out at $35K. That is not a drop in the bucket, but as vehicles rise in cost, the cost of this vehicle is lower than one can normally expect. While I appreciate the EV example of the Mercedes EQS, this is a high-end example of being overpriced, compared to the average buyer. Additionally, with all due respect, it appears that based on your selections for Dodge vehicles, you cherry picked certain specs to generate your numbers. I understand you do not care for EVs, but please make the prices comparison, apples to apples.

See, this is exactly what I'd expect to see from the "believers". You've been so brainwashed that nothing anyone says or even shows you can be processed through your mind. You only see your personal situation and apply it to everyone. YOU have a home with the ability to charge from it, yet millions of people do not and cannot. Your side ignores the apartment dwellers, vertical living, rural, those who cannot afford solar, those in places like California where the governor tells us we cannot charge in the summer due to the grid collapsing, electric peak pricing affects, the parents of 2 kids who share one car in the home and have no time or ability to sit at chargers, etc etc. You also forget that before the tesla partnership agreements there have been lines around the supercharging stations and now they just add tens of thousands of other cars to be able to use that network and think that won't clog those up more? EV's are for about 10-15% of our society, that's it. We're around 10% now and the infrastructure cannot support them conveniently. Then, in California, the most "green" state, about 50% of the electricity is derived from fossil fuels, so what do you think happens to that number with more and more EV's taxing the grid? Lastly, the examples I used were insanely diverse on purpose to avoid someone saying I cherry picked. I picked a frigging Honda Accord, a Dodge Charger RT, and a Scat Pack widebody since this was about the new Scat Pack EV that is supposed to come out someday. This is a Dodge channel so adding in the Honda was just for you actually, yet you missed the point I guess. Bottom line is that there isn't an EV that doesn't have near catastrophic depreciation in a very very short period. Lastly, as far as battery life...We're just now starting to witness the issues with those as they age, and the variables are important when it comes to what is left after 5,7,10 years, but one thing is absolutely for sure and indisputable, these WILL die sooner than an engine, and they WILL cause the car to be totaled due to battery replacement cost, which is why used EV's are not as desirable as gas cars are, and it's only going to get worse the deeper we get into this EV mandate scam. And just a note, I am likely buying a Tesla for commuting, but I can charge at my home, and it will be used for business which will offset my costs and losses. And I will buy used under warranty and let someone else take that horrible depreciation.

@@ocmotivator I appreciate the discussion. You are making assumptions. I have gas vehicles. I have a Jeep Wranger and most recentsly, had a Mustang GT. You are making assumptions on charging and adpatation of charging. You speak of brainwashing. In a recent video you stated something to the effect of "woke" in reference to vehicles. If have heard that correctly that would also be an assumptoin. You also without asking me, assume that I am in support of 100% adoption for all Amercians. There is a place for ICE vehicles as well as EVs. Just so you know, these lines you speak of, did not exist in most areas. You appear to be redirecting the conversation to validate points. All one can ask is, please try to have an open mind to technology and its corresponding benefit. IF one can charge at home, the cost is incremental to that of a charging station. I will grant you that companies need to NOT start jacking up charging prices to equate to gass fill ups.
