Mine has no rattle at all and that is what caught my attention cause it feels super well built and solid with no rattle whatsoever. I have used every brand out there cause I'm a roofer 10 plus years and I have to say this one feels and works solid so far... now I have to see what happens if it drops off the roof cause my Stanley instachange it's a user for sure and takes a drop well. This dewalt is my favorite one they got.

Came across this video a while ago. Ordered my knife a few weeks ago and just got it. Looks great and also rattles. Looks like most is having the rattle problem. But this knife will work better than a crappy plastic one I use at work.
Nice review just got on noticed the same thing thought maybe i got a lemon i was going to go back and get another one , will see. I'm liking the spin technique 👍🏼
Thanks Tony! Sounds like it may be how the knives are if we both experienced it, or at the very least a common problem. Really disappointing because I do think it's a good knife. Seems like there's always something with Dewalt tho...
If this "blade rattle" bothers you, you might have a bigger problem in life. Thumbs down to your review. You didn't even know what blade lock retention is. The blade locks in 3 different positions of exposure. You just slid the blade from closed to fully open and back to fully closed. Also, you had previously taken the piece of cardboard off before filming. It does not come off that easy! Did you even mention the waterproof feature? Excellent knife, sub-par review!
thanks for the video i couldnt figure out how to load this thing. mine works fine. no issues. saw some ppl having trouble loading the blades. i did just what you did hear. everything went in smoothly and i was being extra careful incase something got stuck i was already thinking im not gonna try to force it and risk getting hurt but everything went in easy. i think because i was loading the blade like im doing brain surgery i probably put it at the wrong angle and i just took it out just barely and then went back in and it went it. moves fine. thanks
Mine rattled just as bad as yours. Major bummer. Really loved the feel of the knife in my hand. Couldn't stand the blade rattle so I had to return it.

@@TheTruckGuy I'm kinda new to the "quick release/replace" blades and from what I've read is that play in the blade is normal but I don't feel like it's acceptable. I want my blades to be rock solid, and like you said, something "premium" from Dewalt should be rock solid.
I bought an $8 Walmart Hart brand quick change utility knife to compare and there is far far far less wiggle in the blade than the Dewalt brand and that's just unacceptable in my opinion.

Most retractable/quick change will have blade movement. Check that one out if you want rock solid. You can tighten the knife up with the wheel and have zero movement. It's nice that it's still retractable though.
I just bought this thing, and I have the same concern. I can't figure out where I've placed both of my cheap Stanleys, but neither of them had this rattle and movement of the blade. I like the weight of the DeWalt, and it's comfortable in my hand. Yet, for the money, there shouldn't be movement or rattle. I'll keep it, but I prefer the cheaper Stanley. Nice review!
overall it's the best dewalt that you got, that blade rattle its a bit disappointing for $15, that rubber inlay inside the blade storage i think it's for the "water resistance", if you have the time you can add a little cut test in these reviews, cool as always

Just bought this knife and found your video, because I could not figure out how to operate it. I thought it would be ready right out of the package. Mine rattles too and that’s disappointing. Will probably just keep it.
Hello! I am a senior female who likes to work with small tools like this. Thank you for your review. One suggestion - not only "guys" read reviews on tools, so maybe consider not using that word. How about folks, or something not as sexist as "guys." That being said, I have small hands, and this tool has some heft to it, which is good. Feels really sturdy. I had been using a stainless steel smooth body knife for years, but since moving to Florida, with its terrible humidity, I found that old knife became dangerously slippery. The rubbery parts on this DeWalt are really a big improvement from my old knife. You might have gotten a dude because mine, just purchased 9/2023, had no rattle. Perhaps they improved it. Remember, 2 years ago, during the Covid pandemi, we were lucky to get anything made, or made properly. Thanks for your review. It was detailed and unbiased. Bought one today. It does have the blade rattle. It's a bit annoying but only in the open position.

I'm also getting the RATTLING with this DeWalt utility knife ... I do find it annoying, but my Cats love it. I use it as a Cat Rattling Toy. I do make sure to put the Blade ALL the way back inside before playing with my Cats with this Rattle knife. Overall, I think it's a gorgeous and sturdy knife. I don't understand why it's called a "UTILITY KNIFE" and not a "BOX CUTTER" ... is there a difference? I don't even know what a UTILITY KNIFE is ... or What MAKES a knife a "UTILITY KNIFE" ... Anyways, I love it .... AND REMEMBER, yeah you're paying $15, which may be on the high end, but this knife will last you a LIFETIME, since DeWalt packaging always says "GUARANTEED TOUGH: If a product fails to perform due to DEFECTS in MATERIAL or WORKMANSHIP, we will replace it. Proof of Purchase is required."

I have a rattle but it doesn't seem as bad as yours.
Total fail in my humble opinion. I bought one yesterday and there were no blade installation instructions. That is why I am watching UA-cam videos on how to install the blade. With my first attempt at installing a blade, the blade is completely jammed. I have had surgery on both of my hands and wrists and this knife is too difficult for me to fight. I like the sturdy feel of the knife but the difficult blade changing process is a game changer for me. It is going back to Home Depot today. Thanks!

I bought two of these feels great in the hand with working glove but Bought new blades 3X same brand and both Cutters blades be popping out and makes this useless
The knife is garbage. I hate it. The blade unlock is ridiculous. I cannot change the blade. Do not go for it.
Terrible product. The on top retractable lever will not go forward enough to work with the release button. Unreliable.

Sadly this thing is garbage. After a year of light use the blade change mechanism broke. Took it apart and of course the mechanism is designed like shit and a little metal tab had broken off making it unusuable, chinese design garbage.
Not everyone listening is a guy. You must have said "guy" 30-50 time in this video. Or do you just want dudes to watch and listen? Just wondering.
