I love being an alto too. I know that the sopranos have the melody, but it wouldn’t sound as gorgeous as it does without the harmony that the altos have.
This alto line is just gorgeous. I’m naturally a soprano, but I would totally switch to alto. Y’all altos are going to have such fun with this. Good luck, everyone!! Absolutely, hauntingly, beautiful.
I am a soprano but have sang alto in many choirs...more so than soprano! If you can generally read music, sing alto! Or do whatever makes you happy lol. I love the dissonance in this part!
The last choir I sang with, they started me as soprano.... then a year later with a weak alto section I was asked to sing there.... but my brain had already learned the music!!! I mostly sang alto but also threw in a generous mix of soprano (annual liturgical music). Afterwards I joked that I was “bi-sectional”😂😂. Hey, it worked!!
I haven’t sung in a choir since high school. And I am 63 years old now! But I am doing this. I love choral music and some of my best musical experiences in my life were in high school in that choir, which is saying a lot. I went to music school- I am a flutist- but that whole choir experience still resonates with me and even has influenced how I teach flute. Thanks Eric Whitacre for helping me to get my vocal chops back after 45 years! :D
I’m just 16 and English is my second language, but I’ll try to sing with passion. My chorus teacher told me about this choir, and I’m glad to know that I’ll be part of it and I’ll be working with y’all. I know that we will do a great job, we just have to practice and believe in ourselves! I’m extremely excited and I can’t wait to watch the final video!
Go, Isa! You'll pick up the pronunciation as you practise more. Singing with confidence and passion is definitely more important than getting all words 100% accurate. (Yours will be one of the thousands of recordings that will be submitted, so any minor mistakes will be covered, don't worry.) Hope you'll enjoy singing this VC while keeping yourself healthy and positive at home. --love from an ESL teacher from Hong Kong :)
I always thought that I can't sing even though my teachers and parents (they're musicians) supported me, they were telling me that I had a big talent, but I was too insecure. Maybe it's time to let all of my fears go? I think so. Guys, please, never give up, struggle and fight til the end. Love y'all
I share your fears. I sang in choir in high school wayyyy back when, and I struggle with it. 25 years later and it’s hard but I am going to do it! You should too!
I haven't sung with anything but a car radio in years. It's been almost 30+ years since I sang in a choir and have loved Eric's virtual choirs. I used to sing Alto and finally, a great alto part. Alas, my voice range has lowered and shrunk. I'm going for the tenor part. I'm worried that my voice is not up to the beauty of this but I want to be a part of it. Thank you Eric. What a beautiful way to bring the world together.
I feel so wonderfully happy and loved listening to this... He could have just given us a pedal on the tonic but instead he gave a beautiful melody to the alto part. 💖
i find it incredibly interesting that the voice that stays on the same note is so beautiful and consistent that the second voice can move at almost any interval to it, even at intervals that would normally be considered incredibly dissonant, but I still experience the music as harmonic, as beautiful. that is an incredible resolution of tension. amazing. enchanting.
also, i thought about you earlier today Eric, and here youtube has recommended this video just now!! so i am your newest subscriber. i def dont want to miss one of these.
I love how Eric gives the altos such interesting parts... so considerate!! Ee are an often overlooked section, but Eric never forgets us and I always love singing alto in Eric’s music! 🥺❤️
music will never fail to bring us together.. especially during these dark times❤️ thank you so much Eric for this! can’t wait to record & submit my video and be apart of this beautiful choir with all these beautiful people! God bless you all! 💕💓✨
What a pleasure to listen for the first time to this beautiful music. A special pleasure to hear the bell like voice of the Alto. And also a pleasure to sing such a beautiful melody for the Altos - I am part of another virtual choir where the Alto line in one movement is 38 bars of G - guaranteed to sing flat at some point!
this is so beautiful! I'm so glad I'm able to participate in this after my last choir concert of my senior year was canceled. I'm really excited for this
Eric Whitacre does some amazing work with alto lines that make me proud to be one (even if I had soprano voice lessons in college)! Such a rich sound, wonderful range, and beautiful line! So hauntingly beautiful!
The alto line is absolutely gorgeous. I have been a major fan of Eric Whitacre since I started high school choir back in 2008 and I can't believe I haven't participated in a virtual choir until now. I finally saw Eric live in Portland back in March right before all the craziness. Life has been so dark for me these past few months and this is just exactly what I needed, so thank you SO much from the bottom of my heart!
so happy to have submitted my video :) i actually learned this song really quickly since i was super busy with my ap exams the week this was due, and i submitted it on the second to last day. so happy to be able to be a part of this
I used to sing tenor, mostly to get the good melodies. Eric, thank you for making my switch to alto a musical joy, as well as the right thing to do for my voice.
Will definitely learn and sing the Alto part !! Sop. is just too high for me, and the Alto is just Gorgeous !! * they're all lovely, but the Alto is so rich and soothing !! Thanks Eric !! You've done it again...absolute Bliss for the World to Sing and Hear and Feel ! (xo)
The soprano part is too high for me too, I’m glad there’s an alto part. Both of them sound gorgeous, but I love the harmonies from the altos. Good luck!
I am so happy to be an alto in this beautiful choral arrangement. Each part is a blessing no matter the voice. Cant wait to hear us all sounding as one.
Just finished my first practice session. It's so beautiful!! This is my first time doing this. I sing in a community chorus that like all others is on hiatus. This definitely helps missing it all so much. Eeeee excited to record...in a few days.
As a soprano, I practice with all the voices individually, it's quite fun actually, gives me a better insight in 'my own' soprano part. Just a thought. Works for me! Good luck everyone!
I generally sing soprano, but since I had chemo two years ago and lost my voice in 2018, my voice range is shot. I will probably submit an alto voice for this simply because it's easier to sing.
Please don't mind me, just adding time stamps for myself to make my practice a little easier. The best of luck to everyone! Very happy to be singing with you all! 0:15 1:10 2:19

as usual, altos are the most enthusiastic and warmest lot in the comment section! :D haha, love being an alto!
I love being an alto too. I know that the sopranos have the melody, but it wouldn’t sound as gorgeous as it does without the harmony that the altos have.
I’ll be honest, that’s why I miss being an alto. I love doing harmony.
I feel like quarantine with everyone at home is the absolute perfect time for virtual choir.
Remember the music staff: Good Baritones Date Fine Altos.
You’re right! I’m glad this choir exists and I got to know about it! I’m so excited about working with you all
My music teacher taught us Good Burritos Don’t Fall Apart
Eric loves us Altos!! Im so excited for this, its beautiful!

So am I
The Alto line flows and it’s beautiful! A much needed music project during these unusual days. #ericwhitacre
Exactly! It’s great to sing and express ourselves during these challenging times
Laura Reinbold you are so correct! What a graceful gorgeous alto part. I’m excited to focus on learning to sing it. I wish you peace.
I’m just 16 and English is my second language, but I’ll try to sing with passion. as usual, eric blesses us altos with an amazing part. im so excited for this song! good luck, alto gang!!!
We will do great!
He didn't write it as though we were the lesser counterpart to the sopranos.
It's beautiful.
😍🎶💖
Excited to sing this, and hear the final product. GO ALTOS
me tooooooo
Bre Chromey yes I’m looking forward to this too. It will be my first virtual choir :)
Mckenzie Arviso it will be my first virtual choir too, and I’m still young, but my chorus teacher asked me if I wanted to participate and why not?
Beautiful! Can't wait to hear us all together!

I may be a soprano in choir, but I might sing alto for this one. It's beautiful.
This is my first Eric Whitacre virtual choir. I’m so excited! The alto part is absolutely beautiful.
As a former soprano, this alto part is delicious! Thanks Eric for this amazing music!
Gorgeous! Thank you, Eric.
Let's work! GO ALTOS
I love the alto part! Singing in church praise teams and choirs for a lifetime, often the alto part seems like an after thought. I'm so excited!
I can’t wait to learn this and hear the final product! Thanks for doing this, Eric!

i’m only 14, but i went to a workshop with him at GSU and it was the most moving thing, i’m so incredibly excited to try out for this too :)
Don’t worry, I’m 16, so I guess we are going to be the youngest singers! I can’t wait to see the final product

Tears in my eyes, so beautiful. I love being an alto!
VC6 soprano checking back in to say that I still love singing my part with this alto track. So fun and so beautiful! ❤️🎼
I love the beautiful dance between the Tenors and Altos throughout the piece. As a Tenor, singing my part with the Alto highlight is the most fun!
so glad to do this again -- esp during this time
I’ll be part of this virtual choir, I can’t wait
I agree, the alto line is so pretty. This is going to be fun!

The most important event in my live this year Thank you 🌼
Aaaah yessss alto for life!
hi fellow altos! this is going to be so good, love to you all
the melody reminds me a bit of my favorite The Seal Lullabye
Alto presente anche dalla Sardegna
Alto presente anche da Napoli! Melodia meravigliosa
Questa canzone è magnifica :). Sono contento di aver trovato un commento in italiano
When the alto part works well even alone, the music is superior. I had no doubt this would be the case.
Absolutely amazing💕
My God - it's divine!!
I find it really moving and after singing it several times I felt such a sense of peace

I love this. I'd love it even a bit more if the alto's score was included.

a big shout out to all altos.... specially to all male altos and counter tenors like me...
Who else is here for choir right now? We are doing this right now :)
