    • @EpicTutorialTips
      @EpicTutorialTips Рік тому +7

      No, it's just that sometimes technology has its moments and needs fixing. It was the traffic light system that effectively went down, so while that was being fixed they had to manually process the landings and departures rather than it being handled by a very sophisticated AI.
      For those who are asking for backups, that's not really how this works. The manual processing is the backup, otherwise what you'd get are a bunch of planes being told to attempt landing at the same time causing serious collisions.

    Between 2005 and 2009 Eurocontrol together with industry and ATC organizations developed a new functional setup for European ATC as a prerequisite for European standardization. The English and French ATC organization did not like the loss of their absolute power over their national system and with help of the EU, they did a power grab. After 2009 they forced Eurocontrol to make the national ATC organizations responsible for that development. However maintaining existing cars in a garage is a different job than developing a new car with its production facilities. Because renewal was left to the national ATC organizations, all cooperation stagnated. As a result some systems had to be maintained far too long. European ATC systems are like American cars in Cuba, running far beyond their expected lifespan.

    The airlines need to pay back peoples tickets. When its "beyond their control" they usually refuse to pay out. You can however still get them to pay. They can sue the airports for money, you can't. You go to the aviation agencies.

    • @MeiinUK
      @MeiinUK Рік тому +1

      It depends on the airlines.. I think most long haul UK airlines would cover or have insurances to cover etc. So you can ask for compensation. It is the chartered ones, the ones which he talks of about single private air plane kind of scenario. But this does add pressures to all these airline staff and ground staff as well. Plus during lockdown, lots of airlines are restructuring and asking for peanuts as pay as well. THIS makes it even WORST. Lots of people quit... Pensions are gone. So.. it is even harder to find good and experienced staff. When something is this critical.. and people had such experiences, and yet, they probably wouldn't be able to live and to work in or near the airports. So finding staff to live near one is even harder ! Lots of airline struggles to recruit as well...

      My parents were stuck in Australia during Covid and the Emirates flight home was cancelled. Emirates refused to pay out and they needed to purchase a repatriation flight with BA back to Manchester. 18 months later somebody on Facebook mentioned the Montreal Convention, I am unsure the exact details but it stated that a carrier should guarantee the journey or compensate accordingly. It took a while but did indeed receive their 6k in quid back.

    One major issue is airlines expecting everyone to check twitter - not everyone has twitter - now given a confusing name - and it often requires a person to log in to read things and is not in chronological order. Airlines should update their actual websites - the things most people check - and be more proactive on contacting passengers. I've just checked airline websites - BA has a link that leads to nothing, Ryanair has no info at all, EasyJet has some info. Airlines should be contacting passengers.

According to the Alliance for Aviation Across America website dated August 23rd, 2017 'ATC privatisation 'has resulted in a total meltdown' , leading to outages, widespread technical glitches, widespread UK delays and mass standings.and resulting in calls for modernisation and a potential government bailout. Will Thereze Coffee be appointed to troubleshoot the ATC sector?
