    • @zvpunry1971
      @zvpunry1971 6 років тому +5

      "he can run the exposure at a *higher* setting than with film"... Digital imaging plates need less exposure to x-rays than film.
      And dropping them costs about the same as a good new car... I think mikeselectricstuff has a teardown video of these imaging plates. ;)

    • @mduvigneaud
      @mduvigneaud 6 років тому +1

      zvpunry, that's what he said after I asked about being able to run at *lower* exposure. I think it's because the digital plates might have higher dynamic range than the film, so they don't overexpose the same way. He was imaging my lungs for fluid buildup. Turns out I was developing pneumonia, bleh.
      And yeah, I've watched mikeselectricstuff's video. Fascinating stuff! :D

    Looks like PVD sputter deposition of metal (probably aluminum) on the glass. The little windows are probably an oil or soap solution that's splattered on the glass to create the round ports for the light to shine through. After the metal vapor is applied, the bulb is rinsed out to remove the soap splats. Cool idea! Cool video! Rock on, Clive!

    10:18 Another reason for that 470K resistor is if you are using the bulb on a neon or LED illuminated wall switch.
    The small amount of current the neon or LED passes through the lamp with the switch off could cause the lamp to glow dimly if the resistor wasn't there.

    You can mirror any glass surface you like, even cookware, I think it's by adding a substance to silver nitrate that causes the silver ions to fall out of solution and adhere to the surfaces, the yellow colour on the inside would be silver oxide tarnish where ie the has been exposed to air, I imagine they spray some soap inside the bulb before mirroring, there are tutorials on UA-cam, but how you'd make it its own infinity mirror I am unsure, you may also have to silver the outside too, which would explain the dimness

    • @ufohunter3688
      @ufohunter3688 6 років тому +6

      "silver is a poor material for making mirrors". Spoken with such conviction!
      However, Silver is the best material for mirrors, but expensive. Hence the use of Aluminum.
      No self respecting telescope uses anything but silver.

    • @chrispza

    That globe reminds me of those infinity mirrors that were all the craze in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Also it has a steampunk retro look without the mirrors effects too.

    You are so awesome! I nearly died of laughter at your x-ray! That was so great. I've got one of those too!! Best part of the video. Are you a teacher? I hope so. I wish I could have had a teacher like you, who had such a lovely accent, and was wonderful to listen to, and learn from. You really are awesome! Thank you!

      BillyNoMates1974 thing is, you generally expect smashy to show up on photonicinductions videos, the dude is mental after all, but you dont expect clive to smash a lught bulb, hes too kind and professional.
      But then again, as popular as it is, nobody expects the spanish inquisition.

    And there i was thinking fluke have created a x ray version of the thermal imaging thingy. That infinity spotty stuff might make an interesting window tint film. Im hoping that the 12/60v 20A dc pwm motor controllers are alluring enough to make it into clives basket,
