Glenn, I rebuild a lot of mower carbs and I use Pine-Sol and tap water in my ultra sonic cleaner. I use about two ounces to half a gallon of water. It works GREAT and the carbs come out looking new and smelling great.
Great feedback. There is another product out there that is made by the purple power company that shouldn't have been safe. So I have a lot of the purple stuff I'll never use and trying to figure out how to get the carb back to it's original color will be a trick. Some might not worry about a minor detail but to me it's in the small details. Thanks again for the tip. What sonic cleaner do you use?
I don't remember the brand of my cleaner but its not a HF. It's all stainless steel and works well. I run my carbs through a 15 minute cycle as hot as it will go, change fluid, and go again for 15 minutes. I have never had a failure in a rebuild. The aluminum looks new when done and does not discolor. @@GlennWhitcomb
I think the only way to get the color back is to have it hand polished but there are many areas that wouldn't be reachable. Lesson learned on this one and thank you for the tip, wish I had that prior to doing what I did. I probably should have ran this one 2x as well. I wonder if vapor blasting could bring it back.
I bet that would be good especially with the grease. Live and learn on this one. I should have done the carb more than one time didn't think about that.

@@GlennWhitcomb I'm not sure if you can get it back to look original.
Brilliant Glenn, great video series and well done figuring it all out, cheers
Glad you enjoyed it. We will see once I tear it down whether it will run again ;) I'm excited to get underway and share the build.
I my Rotax training we were told to use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with water and just a few drops of dawn.
