Queen Victoria’s 9 children gave her 42 grandchildren. Among their ranks were a king, an Emperor, 6 queens, 2 married couples, an embarrassing number of Nazis and many captivating characters. They fought on both sides of world wars and spanned 122 years of history, the first, Wilhelm being born in 1859 and the last, Alice, dying in 1981. Today of the approximately 28 monarchies that still survive throughout the world, five are occupied by descendants of Victoria. As briefly as possible, here are the stories of Queen Victoria’s 42 fascinating Grandchildren.
In this episode the children of
Helena, Princess of Schleswig-Holstein (1846-1923)
Aurthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850-1942)
Leopold, Duke of Albany (1853-1884)
Beatrice, Princess of Battenberg (1857-1944)

its frightening how much they all end up looking like Victoria. Thems some strong genes.
lozpopo it’s also the incest don’t forget the incest 😂😂😂😂
That is what happens when you keep it in the family🤷🏾. I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, but that is some nasty, strange, and overall Sick Mess. Incest is just wrong and evil.......But that's my opinion😑.
Charles Darwin was convinced it should be kept in the family, some of his children were very ill. Can we trust his theory?
It's nearly the only genes lol
lozpopo well it’s just the same genes going round and round and round lol
Alfonso’s mother: Don’t marry Victoria, she will pass hemophilia onto your children.
Alfonso: nah, that won’t happen
Children: have hemophilia
Alfonso: *surprised pikachu face*
I read somewhere on the internet (so it must be true, lol), that they deliberately chose the English princess because they didn't want children to have the Hapsburg jaw passed on to them. Unfortunately that gene was too strong as well. Poor boys. Hasburg jaw and haemophilia.
And then he resented his wife and cheated on her. What a character...
And a mother says i told you so.
"is deeply in love with her" and insists that he marry her, yet resents her for passing on hemophilia (resenting somebody for their physical makeup? Whatever happened to "in sickness and in health?") to their children and constantly cheats on her; yet STILL continues to have several more children with her.
Yeah that story doesn’t make sense....there must be more to it. The only time I have heard the lady mentioned was on Roy Plumley’s “Desert Island Discs” with the redoubtable Princess Margaret.
He had the nerve to resent her even when his mother straight up told him not to marry her because she would pass hemophilia down to their kids wtf
Men.
@@est9949 two of em💅🏽
But the irony is that he was a carrier also because it takes both parents’ genes to cause hemophilia
@@misskitty6297 he probably was a carrier but it takes only one parent to have a 50 percent chance to pass it on
He didn't mind the hereditary 'Hapsburg Jaw' that mutated all through Europe?? His is the perfect example of this.
Alfonso: I can't believe you have faulty genes this is all your fault
Alfonso: *Habsburg genes*
✨inbred✨
I think I saw the Habsburg jaw 😬
@@AmyHoldaway27 😬
I think Alfonso was of the Bourbon line tho
@@davidcorruthers78 The Bourbons had a Habsburg ancestor, Maria Theresa, wife of Louis XIV.
It's so sad that growing up we think being a princess or a noble is a fairy-tale but in real life, royals weren't always happy. Sometimes they married people they didn't like for an alliance or their children died.. so sad 😟
My Mother , was sure, when we visited England, I would somehow be presented to Prince Edward and he would swoon. I've been there many times ,as am a duel citizen. Have never been offered up to Prince Edward.... Lol
He seems pretty happy.......
sometimes they get murdered by child-killing communist traitors
lol and they all had hemophilia...well, most of them men
Reality of being an European royal :
You probably have hemophilia or carry hemophilia in your genes, you have cousins across the world speaking different languages, a lot of your family has/ dies from undiagnosed illness/hemophilia and your family tree is complicated.
Not fun inherit the genetic jaw problems and bone diesese It skips around I have to wear a jaw brace at night to breathe ! No kids so that's the end of the line for the genetic stuff very painful 😖
They all look like the same person with different hair styles.
😂😂😂
That’s incest for you
I'm actually very surprised how far this incestuous line survived
IBeMelissa me too.
IBeMelissa IKR, you would have thought they would have learned something about incest from the Hapsburgs. That’s the power of the egot!
next up:
Queen Victoria‘s Great-Grandchildren - Part 1 of 25
sleepy actually, since she just had about twice as many great grandkids (still a lot, 87), logic follows it woukd take arpund twice as many parts to do that, so 8-9 parts
It is crazy, 42 grandchildren out of 9 kids? That’s a lot, but for those days it was normal.
You ain't kiddin',😂
@@laurenmay2098 And 27 of them were from the first 4 kids alone.
My Mom had 8 kids.
And has 23 grandchildren
And 28 great grandchildren!
I guess we are a small family 😂🤣😂
Royal names be like:
Victoria
Elizabeth
Louise
Alice too
Mary
Edward is always a classic or some name that sounds like William
Henry too😂
Dont forget Marie
Thank you for not ignoring Princess Louise, despite her not having any children. Apparently, Queen Victoria wasn't too upset and tried to console Louise with the benefits of not having children. There was also the possibility that a medical condition prevented her from being a mother too.
I’ve been eating these up like crack. I love these videos so much honestly. Please keep making more :)
You said it much better than I ever could!! I feel the same!
True, these videos are interesting.
Eating Crack can't be healthy, you should check yourself in.
Id totally agree👍 really want to see more educational videos from this youtube channel
TRUTH.Im addicted
Would you consider going further down the line of Queen Victoria. Great grandchildren etc?
There are so many, but still it would be interesting
Yes, please!!!
Yessss!!! Please!!!!
@@MisaloSloe Including those who died as babies, or were 'born sleeping', I believe the number of great-grandchildren would be 87.
yesss please do
I've seen a lot of comments asking for you to do the great- grand children, but I wouldn't wish it on you. There are too many. Maybe a video just highlighting the more interesting stories among them would be do-able, though.
I wonder if Victoria even ended up remembering all 42 of them
Good question. Probably not.
I'm sure she did.
She could be forgiven for not knowing all of her great-grandkids, but 40+ is plenty doable...
@@magkatcar I'm pretty sure she remembered 40 out of 42. 4 of them died in childbirth. 2 of them live long enough to be giving names. Alexander is King Edward son and lived for 24 hours. Herald is Princess Helena son and lived for 8 days. The other two were still born babies with no names. Prince Alfred son, and another one of Princess Helena son.
Plus most of the girls have Victoria in there name somewhere 😂 she probably nicknamed them Victoria 1, Victoria 2 and so on
My husband can't believe there is so many folks with royal blood, he literally cursed when he heard the number hahaha
I adore your pumpkin head! Lol
He liked Vicky's 42 grandkids?
Let him hear about her 100 plus great grandkids lol
Their are many more . i just did my ancestry and found im related to Queen Elizabeth myself . as well as many other ppl world wide whom are actually royal blood yet are so called illegitimate heirs . hey u might be 1 too
Ja, you don’ have to go that far back to find a relative who married a royal or their close relative did.
Not everyone had a “nest” of children like us Queen Victoria birthed 9, adopted a lil African princess 👸 named Victoria also
(My Grandma Golden was last of 11 children that my Great Grandmother had at turn or the century and into the 1920s
When families are that big it adds example how big it gets “fast.”
Great Grandma & Grandma Cole
11 kids
Cole Grand children - ; 48
Great Great Grand kids - 115-13
2x Great Grand kids.... somewhere 450-550
Great Grandpa Cole was born in 1874. So this is not even 150 yrs
😂 it's funny how we say Royal blood as if their blood is different from everyone else
Princess Louise and John Campbell didn’t really have an unhappy marriage. They were close at first, but drifted apart after a while, but they reconciled in 1911 and were closer than they had ever been before until the Duke’s death in 1914. In fact, their marriage survived due to long periods of separation.
I didn’t know that Princess Patricia of Connaught was on the Canadian One Dollar Bank note in 1917. Her father Arthur was Governor General of Canada at the time. Very interesting stories of Queen Victoria’s Grandchildren.
Haha I love being a history nerd! I was like part 3, yes! Finally!
Love your name. When I used to answer the phone at work and say this is Carrie, they would say--"how do you spell that?", Me- Just like the movie--always got a kick out of that because they always had to pause after that!!
Im a history nerd too😁😁😁
Me too
Fun fact: One of the Duchess of Argyll's middle names was Alberta, from whom my home province in Canada is named for.
I have family in Ponoka Alberta 😍
Also lake Louise was named after her
I think This fact was talked about in a previous video on this channel
My home province too! :)
Louise Caroline Alberta was Queen Victorias daughter these things would have been named after.
Tragic how many grandchildren died because of deceases or war. Thank you for these great videos about the grandchildren ❤️
So.... This guy was warned that she may pass on the gene. Said he wanted to marry her anyway. And was mad and resented her for ... PASSING ON THE GENE wyf
My hood friends wouldn’t understand why I love history so so much this means a lot to me thank u 🌹❤️
I agree, I have that same thing going on in my friends group. they think it's lame to learn history , but I love History. Learnt something about my country(South Africa). So many British Royals fought here during the Boer War.
Stay being yourself!"poshthug"
People talked about Queen Elisabeth not caring for Charles and Anne, but this was the way royals did things at that time. Tutors were the ones in charge. Of course that is not to compare to love, but that’s the way they deal with it. To me, Diana was the first one two do a little more, because she was not a princess. Charles probably never changed a diaper, like they wanted us to think, that he got back from work to have diner and bath time with William and Harry. I doubt it, and that was the way at that time. Maybe Kate does more than Diana, I have no idea, but I am sure Harry and Meghan is completely there for Archie. Like normal people. Even if they have a nanny, they are able to change their Children’s diapers. They are getting better and better.
Edit: thank God they stopped marrying cousins, 🤮
So interesting!!!
Married his cousins daughter....
That’s one twisted family tree!
@Avakin Alessia you do know what a niece means right?😒
Avakin Alessia No your niece is your sibling's daughter. Your first cousin's daughter is your first cousin once removed.
@Avakin Alessia What? No, you are wrong. Your niece is the female offspring of your sibling. Your nephew is the male offspring of your sibling.
@Avakin Alessia I have to say...you stood your ground. Never stop doing what you know to be right.
I shouldnt say this because im from the philippines and many here has done that but only to 3rd and 4rth cousins in the old days to secure their family inheritance. But that is one sad family that turned out dysfunctional that makes ww1 a family feud.
I admire your effort... This was clearly a hard series to produce and you did it wonderfully!!!
Edit: it took me one year to realize that Alice (prince Philip's mother) was a nice of Henry, Beatrice's husband, and Beatrice was a sister to Alice's grandmother (also Alice).... That was the only condition I didn't understood back then 🤦🏻♀️🤣
Alfonso blamed Victoria Eugenie for passing on hemophilia?!? What a jerk; it's not like she had any control over that!
He blamed her yet he still made 7 children with her
But he was warned.
@@FC-hj9ub he probably could pass his genes, not hers
@@nandinhocunha440 Not possible. Children get genes from both parents.
I love your Narration .. you're pleasant and easy to listen to!
As a history nerd, I applaud your videos!!! It's refreshing to see accurate facts, photos & great narration!! I also love how you tied the descendants in as many forget how closely related (pun intended) they all are! The line of succession to the British throne encompasses I believe more than 10 royal houses, in power & deposed, if not more!
You should do a video about the Mitford sisters! I recently found out how interesting they were.
There's a couple of very good books on them. Quite a family.
Fascists and traitors.
I know it’s a long shot, but I would absolutely LOVE to see a video about Queen Victoria’s great-grandchildren 😊
I’m a political history buff and this fascinates me!
Maurice of Battenberg was the only British royal to die in WWI.
everyone seems to agree that her decendants look like her. They have those amazing blue eyes.
My daddy served in the U.S. Navy from 1937-1967. From 1956-1959 we were stationed in Cartagena, Colombia S.A. During that time Juan Carlos I of Spain came to the area. Mother said that when she and daddy were introduced to him he kissed her hand.
It may have been the first time in her life that her hand was kissed. Even so, she always had a little giggle when speaking about it.
Leopold didn’t really have a hard time finding a wife he had a hard time convincing his mother that he should get married at all she wanted him to stay home and just be a private secretary and they were like Beatrice he had to fight tooth and nail to actually get married and it was sad when he fell down he died but still
His hemophilia and epilepsy were red flags to other royal families.
A lot of marrying cousins, well we now know how this turned out, Yikes!
Yep... and what's amazing is that it's still going on with some of the common folk today
Thank goodness I have waited so long for part three. Thank you for all that you do for us by bringing these informative videos. They are also so very entertaining. Please do more .
Haemophilia magnified when cousins intermarry
Lindsay thank you for putting so much time and effort into these wonderfully informative and interesting videos. Please keep going!
I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR CLEAR COVERAGE, OF THE HISTORY OF QUEEN VIC, AND I'VE NOW WATCHED ALL YOUR VIDS!!!!!
The most common names are George, Edward, Albert, Victoria, Elizabeth, Alice 😂
That was awesome! You put so much work into giving us all this historical information. Well done!
It's April 2021, and while resting, i'm watching your video. It's very informative and well-searched. Good job. Now i know..thanks to you!
I love how a majority of queen Victoria's descendants had no compassion for each other and didnt attend their families funeral.
The last person to say she was a granddaughter of queen victoria died in the 1980s. Wow.
Her name is Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, the wife of Alexander Cambridge, Count of Athlone, who is the younger brother of Queen Mary.
Amazing....!
I’m going to rewatch all three in slow motion to absorb all the information!
Thank you 😊
So much info. Love it. Watch these vids over and over as to not miss any info.
Who knew there was a bonus for not being able to sleep???? Tuesdays treat comes early!
Wonderful story. I’ll have to watch it again and write notes. Thank you,
I absolutely LOVE this series!
Thank you for these videos & please keep up the interesting content!!
Excellent job Lindsey! I was so excited to see this pop up and this series was beautifully done:) looking forward to what family tree or history series you do next!
I like reading about and seeing the pictures of Queen Victoria's Family. It would be interesting to see the next tree of great grand children and great great grandchildren. Also see who still has the genes for phyphera, hemaphilia, and other illnesses. Just life, education, and jobs.
Thank you
They are not doing that. Far too many great grandchildren and great great.
These videos are so interesting! Please keep doing them! I’m addicted to them, especially because they’re so short
what a great series! thank you so much!! i hope you have more on the horizon for us.
imagine the headache trying to draw the family tree from past to present...you'd need paper the size of a football field to cram everyone in there...
Have been waiting for this! Thank you! 😍
13:18 What a great final picture.
Once again Lindsay, brilliantly put together, looking forward in seeing more videos from you ,keep it coming 🥰Xx
I love your videos on the royals of the past. I don't have any interest in the royals from 1970 to the present, but love learning about royal families if the past!
I just got home from work and saw this and actually went "OOOoooh!" lol. I love your vids :)
😂😂
Amazing job Lindsay. Great history.
I enjoy your UA-cam clips and find them very interesting 😊👍🏽
I look forward to your next ones including the ‘Great grandchildren’! Of Queen Victoria..
That will be quite the multiple of clips 😯
I have really enjoyed this series of videos, the work that must have gone in to them is a credit to you.
Enjoyed this series tremendously!
Thank you for all of your hard work.
This was fascinating .I am English and I did not realise how many Grandchildren Queen Victoria had.You did some amazing researching and explained everything so well.I think a woman explaining sounds less of a history lesson lol.Not that I am adverse to one as I always believe your never to old to learn new things .Also it keeps ones mind active too.Thank you for you time in telling all about Queen Victoria ,her wedding and her children.I did not comment on them all but waited until I watched the set .I have Subscribed as I see you have a lot more interesting things I want to watch too .Thank you 🥰
Wow i have watched several of your clips. Thank you for all the information I gleamed on these researches very extensive thank you for your hard work .
You’ve done a series on queen Victoria’s children and grandchildren next how about her great- grandchildren
Oh yes I second that 🙌!
that’s like 100 plus people lmao
Seriously 😮?! More than likely is it has been a long time now for them to multiply lol. Maybe do the more noteworthy ones?

yeah it would make sense to do it on the most important and well known ones

Another outstanding history lesson! Thanks sweet lady!
Amazing. I have something to look forward to with these videos. Please make MORE videos as such 😍
I thought back n was thinking about my mamaw and pawpaw! If you did a vid on them we'd be here for a year. They had 18 kids, that lived, 22 in total. That's what happens in the hills and hollows of West Virginia, especially when there's no television or YT to look forward to each nite. Whatcha gonna do? Do it like the rabbits!!! Lmao! No but seriously there are more than 100 grandbabies, and Lord only knows how many greats and great-greats!? Pawpaw's obituary said over 100 grandkids. Didn't list them specifically or it would have took a whole page in the newspaper. So Queen Victoria had a big family, but she ain't got nothin' on us Robinson's, Robison's, and Robertson's! Lol!! Some changed their names cuz the record building burnt down, and so we got a whole mess!! Lol!!
I absolutely love your channel!!!! I’ve been subscribed for a while and honestly this is my favorite series of yours :) I just love history sm
Lots I didn't know here. Thank you for doing a fantastic job narrating.😍

Fantastic Job!!!!! You can tell that you spent a lot of time on this series. 😋
Zeppelin is a misnomer. They were blimps or air ships. The reason that people make that mistake is the same reason The British "Hoover" a rug or we grab a "kleenex" instead of a tissue as the brand name became synonymous with the item manufactured. (It's also why you "google" something online.) Zeppelin was the most famous company to manufacture the blimps. This company, still in existence in Germany today, also manufactures machine tools, land movers and construction equipment.
Thanks for featuring me in part 1 ;)
Grandma is the best :)
Hello Lindsay, I really love your videos🤗 They are very informative and you already told me many, many things I didn't know. It has to be a lot of work creating these pretty videos😱😊 Greetings from Germany!💖🙈
