Well, this was a difficult list to compile, considering all the heart-breaking moments we’ve gotten now that the series is complete. Which scenes would make it into your top 10? Let me know in the comments.

At first you think the clone wars is just going to be lasers in space, but it’s really an dark story of the horrors of war, as the morality of duty is questioned and brother turns on brother and honestly it’s the saddest show I’ve ever watched

I mean granted there are several million(billion?) laser bolts fired in space over the course of the war, but yes. This is a show about everything you just said

I actually think maul is the single greatest character in all of star wars for the reason that he fights evil by being evil, and he's a tragic villain (he lost his legs like 3 times, his brother was killed right in front of him, he got betrayed many times over, etc).

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah you’re right. I get confused because they use some of the same themes a lot in the show (I think “Death of a Master” was first used when Even Piell died in season 3, and that’s the one they use for Fives).

It’s makes ya think that they were ordered to kill him.
I mean any trained clone that is trying to capture someone is to use stun over blaster fire. Unless, they’ve been order to kill the target. Fives going for the gun just made the shot look justified but it didn’t because a stun would have done all the same except his life would be intact.

I'm pretty sure that Dave Filoni and the rest of the Clone Wars writers sat down one day and Filoni said "alright everyone. We're going to write the most TV-14 arc without getting TV-14" and Umbara was born.
The scene when the clones find out they were firing on each other the whole time was sooooo sad

You know what's even worse? Plenty of events like that have happened irl. There was one time were a group of AH-64 Apaches mistook a US APC for an Iraqi APC. The lead pilot tried to fire his chaingun, but it was jammed. He then directed one of the other Apaches to fire a TOW missile at the APC. Two survivors managed to run away from the destroyed APC, but they were gunned down by an Apache.
For me this is the saddest moment of Clone Wars..
Seeing Rex Cry Like that, really touched a nerve.

The fact that Kenobi didnt turn to the dark side after Satines death just shows how strong he is
Satine, Qui Gon, Anakin, the Jedi Order, his friends. Obi has probably the strongest emotional endurance of all the characters in the SW Universe.
You know how sad Echo's bit is? When you realize he was captured and tortured instead of dying and how he had to face the fact he's the sole survivor of Domino Squad. I hope for the Bad Batch series we see his thoughts and feelings about being the last of Domino Squad
Sadly he is underused in Bad Batch, big mistake since he's arguably the most interesting of the main characters. Perhaps a next season could develop him more. Perhaps Filoni is trying to make sure Echo is used properly.

I also think that Hevy’s death is gut-wrenching. We only knew him for a little bit and all he wanted to do was his duty. He deserves a promotion to ARC.

Fives was my favorite character, no domino squad were my favorite characters, fives represented them after season 3, his death hits me the hardest, 1st because like 10 more seconds and the ENTIRE STAR WARS STORY would be changed, 2nd because, the mission, the nightmares, they’re all finally, overr, basically this is him saying that all the pain he’s gone through is finally over
His death also effects Rex in season 7

I think fives death was the saddest for me cuz it really makes you think about the futility of it all. The meaninglessness of war, especially when the clones were programmed only to serve and to fight. All they wanted to do was serve a purpose and they had no control over their final outcome which ultimately went against everything they ever held true to themselves.
100%. The clones are my favorite part of Star Wars. TCW era poses so many different moral questions and dilemmas, arguably more than any other era in Star Wars.
He also tried to save the Jedi and stop Order 66, but no one listened to him

Tbh, I don’t cry a lot for shows but waxer and fives deaths broke my heart. To die trying to prove your innocence and to save the Jedi, and to die killing your own brothers thinking there the enemy. It’s completely heart breaking.
No one man, women, girl, boy, no mater the gender should ever have to go through such a struggle only to end lose the race in the final stretch. Life is simply a rase between you and death, and death is always close second.
The saddest moment is as soon as order 66 is issued and all the clones are blasting Ashoka in the bridge of the venator 😢
i love how ahsoka went from one of the most hated character to the most loved one
It’s a testament to how great this show was that, even years later, my eyes STILL go wide with horror when Rex realizes who his men are shooting on Umbara, and STILL get teary-eyed when Ahsoka leaves the Jedi Order. TCW is one of the greatest things to ever come out of Star Wars, and I’m glad it got the heartrending sendoff it deserved.

Same here, him looking up into the air knowing he has lost everything. Everything from his glorious life as Anakin Skywalker has been destroyed. All he has now is service to his master.

Im a simple person. I hear one single note of victory and death and immedietly begin sobbing.
That was me at the start of Victory and Death! Right as the episode opened on the star destroyer with that music playing, I knew I was in for an emotional roller coaster 😭

The cello that plays in the background when Ashoka walks away from the Jedi Temple is what really made me tear up. Something about it just hits so hard in the feels.
I wonder what was going through anakins mind whenever he saw Rex’s helmet and Ashoka’s lightsaber..:that’s when he truly thought he only had himself
I loved that Vader moved like Anakin in the last scene. very sad tho
Rex didn't leave his helmet at the end of The Clone Wars. He still had it in Rebels.

seeing rex realize his brothers have turned on him is not only brutal but its very heartbreaking because he saw them as brothers never soldiers
They ended the clone wars so perfect we knew what was coming but we still weren’t ready
Darth Jar Jar yes ☹️ it was such a beautiful ending to the show. A lot of tv shows decline and have a messy ending but this one was just perfect

Ahsoka witnessed the rise of Darth Vader, the most iconic (and most feared) villain in the Star Wars universe. The Saddest Clone Wars scenes left Ahsoka, the Jedi, and the entire fandom in tears.
Yes, the very ending of that show is one of the saddest most heart breaking scenes ever, and not just for Star Wars

Rest in peace to the hundreds of thousands of Clones who gave their lives. They're the real heroes. Unfortunately, many of the Jedi leading them didn't treat them any better than the CIS treated the Droids. Not all of the Jedi, but many.
Domino Squad, 99, Hardcase, Jesse, Thorn, Keeli, Waxer, Vaughn. Colt and Havoc. The thousands of unnamed clones.

99's death is the only time i cried while watching a movie/series
Id keep the first but make the second and third switch because fives death is what got me man. What was it 3 or 4 seasons with him... he was my favorite clone. I still hate fox to this day. Omg the scene with Ahsoka and Anakin where she leaves the order is so sad. I remember crying so hard to that scene when I saw it. And most of these scenes were sad but I say Ahsoka leaving the order and the very
last scene from the Clone Wars were the saddest

So this just came to me.
I think that if Ahsoka had stayed it would have either stopped Anakin from turning to the dark side or if Ahsoka had died or gotten severely injured (this would be near the events of revenge of the sith) it could have sent Anakin becoming more dark then he did in the original trilogy. We all saw what happened with Padme. I can only imagine what would happen if it was Ahsoka who is basically like a sister to him if you think about it.

They were slaves of the Republic. Born into a war that they didn't understand, a war that they didn't start. That's why i find there deaths so sad they gave their life for the cause that they were told was the right one. Imagine living your life knowing that you were expendable and still fighting anyways

Season 7 is definitely the darkest season in the series,form the part where all the clones helmets are put on sticks,to echo becoming a cybor,to maul cutting clones arms and heads off,it's overall more gritty and dark than the entire series
The dread in episode 11 is something i've never seen replicated before, the way you KNOW what's going to happen, filoni... i have no words but thank you
It's not surprising that most of these are clone related scenes. I've always felt like clones are very well designed characters and it makes sense that they have a part in a lot of the most emotional scenes when it comes to the Star Wars franchise. The clones are characters you would think are just these identical henchman there just to convey the idea of war, but sometimes the series can really disprove that idea. Many of the recurring clones we see have very different personalities that make them human. Their personalities give their deaths emotion. They aren't like battle droids, with each droid being the same as every other droid. Because clones can have different personalities from one another makes each one special in a way. Some even have their own ideas and beliefs that many people can relate to and agree with. Clones like Fives, 99, Echo, and many others can't just be replaced, which is why their deaths have such strong emotion to them.

99 hurts me the most cuz he just wants to be like everyone else but he knows he’s not but he’s still the one who’s pays for it
"We happy few, we band of brothers, for he who shed his blood with me, shall forever be my brother." The clones always kept this close. They might've been jokesters or stuck up on the base, but when the lasers start flying, they have each others backs till the end. I would also like to note the Umbara arc is one if the darkest. It's also the one where the medics shine the most.
I think the whole citadel raid was pretty sad. They lost multiple good clones and ultimately failed in their mission as the small jedi gets killed by Sobeck towards the end. They still rescue tarkin etc but still very hollow victory
#2 was insane! Rex fighting the order yet still able to be a hero at the same time!
This is the only piece of media that has made me cry.
When i was beng watching this 8,4,2,and 1 all made me cry these are the top four
Who ever the music director for this show was, they did their job perfectly, the music made every single scene whether it was a battle or the death of a character we loved more memorable and emotional.
I am literally a sobbing wreck!!! The Order 66 scene breaks me every time😭

Clone Wars season 7 is actually the only piece of Star Wars media that doesn’t end with at least a hint of hope. Really gutsy move from the team, but it worked. If there is one time in all of Star Wars that all hope is lost, it’s for the people that are negatively affected by the fall of the republic and the order besides Bail Organa, Yoda, and Obi-Wan. They are the only good guys who had a plan, and setting that plan into motion was the hopeful note that episode 3, the most tragic of all the films, ended on. That hope isn’t there for any other Jedi or clone with their senses, because the plan was a secret. Ahsoka, Rex, Kanan, Cal, in this moment, they are truly hopeless.

Umbarra was the most messed up thing next to Order 66. The fact he turned brother against brother, and when the Clones realized it, the pain and heartbreak they felt, the betrayal of murdering their own brothers. That was just, my god that hit hard. Seeing that pain in Rex's eyes.
The fact the troopers were shooting each other had to be the most saddest deaths
Honorable mention: Zillo Beast death. Was a pretty powerful moment with the music and the Beast being the first one to recognize Palpy as Darth Sidious
Clone Wars is still one of my favorite series ever. I loved how it humanized the clones and didnt portray them as nothing better than the droids. Theyre humans after all and i always thought that the Fate of the clones was the most heartbraking in all of Star Wars.
All I could say is that multiple tears hit the floor
