- ESSENCE Mirage
The Essence is a Dutch rock band formed in 1984. The Essence signed to Midnight Music after a year of gigging. In 1986 the collaboration resulted in the release of their debut album "Purity" preceded by the 12" single "Endless Lakes", which were both received very well, especially in Holland and Germany. A track very popular with the radio- and club-DJ's was "The Cat", which was remixed and released as a second 12". 1987 saw the release of the follow-up album "A Monument of Trust" and the single "A Mirage", a catchy tune that made the top 10 in Spain.

The Essence is the greatest band, inspired by The Cure, period!
Do not forget "marcies still waiting"
It's like Robert merged with Ian McCulloch.
YES kkkkkkk
@@wagnercosta9105 love the essence... saw them live in Rotterdam....great funny gig
@@tettjenewhome7727 cool ... and what year it was, I don't know if this band is still active.
LOTERALLY
Absolutely love these. The 80s was my decade but I've never seen or heard of these before. Better late than never I guess..
My thoughts exactly. I think that I heard their song called "the Cat" a few times, but I always assumed that I was listening to the Cure.
Walking away through crowds
I will forever be with you
Silently away they melt
Like ice I push you through
As we dream of perfect ways
Oh to die so brave oh please
Don't dream alone tonight
As I mouth the words you're so far away
Far away you turn your eyes
You dream alone
So true
Your eyes
In a mirage
Noiseless waving hands
Slowly fade in grey
I watch the hours go by
But I watch you drown
But still you just dream on
And on and on
I watch you drowning in waves
But i see you still
In a mirage, in a mirage
In waves of dreams aha
Don't you see that I
That I just want to share
Your dreams of endless worlds
But I watch you fade I watch you fade away
I watch you fading away
And I watch you drown
And I watch you drown
But still you seem further away
And you probably dream of me
Your eyes like ice
Oh don't let it end oh please not this way
So cruel so cruel so cruel
This is the end, it's the end
But if you dream
This is the end
So cruel
This is the end
This is the end, it's the end
So cruel so cruel so cruel
But if you dream...
I saw them live back in 1988 in Paris with sad lovers and giants..my teenage years...
+Marc Dorcel I'm so jealous. Proving yet again I was born in the wrong generation for music.
Just saw SLAG a few months ago. They sounded incredible. Even better live, than on their recorded material!
I played with them in October 1989 in Diemeringen in a Festival. I met Hans Diener several times after. We had a band called Lunatic Verses, that's why we've played with them.
wow! That is a cool line up. Wish I was there
Bons souvenirs. ;)
Even tho they sound like the cure they are great and I love them
Shut your eyes, and The Cure are playing. Both great bands.
Sounds soo much like The Cure and even the vocalist resembles Robert Smith with that black shirt and the rosary around his neck! Reminds me of Robert Smith in "The Top" era!
Still, I love The Essence's music, being myself one of the biggest fans of The Cure, of course I love The Essence!
Exactly so :)
True that! In 1987, I read a review in Spin Magazine of the album, "A Monument Of Trust" that The Cure released the album as The Essence. For years, I believed this as others did too, I would imagine. A year later I figure it was a lie printed by Spin. They weren't the Cure but it was a cool possibility. Now, after that lie by Spin The Glove was Robert Smith (The Cure) and Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees). A Cure and Essence fan since 1984! :) If your a fan, you must have Fools Dance (Simon Gallup ex-Cure) and Presence - Inside (Lol Tolhurst ex Cure). Great albums. Love them to this day. And most important, ALL the Essence releases. After all this years The Essence are also a unique band as the Cure is. Though the sounds like the Cure they really don't. The Essence is the Essence. :) IMHO.
If I remember it right Robert Smith is playing a CD of Essence before a concert
That brings back memories... feeling 20 yo now... and Walkman is on .. also remember some newbie to explain who the cure are as I said these sound like them .. yeah .. thanks to my ex to intro me to the essence and the days in Berlin back in the days as well as the brave journeys as well as the mixtapes made

I agree with you on100%. They might have similar sound but unique on their own . They are both great bands!
There is nothing wrong with bands that have a similar sound. As long as their music hits you in the heart, who cares. The Essence is a very special band to my soul.
verdade
How have I never seen this video?? Thank you so much for posting. I have two Essence albums and love them both.
I love to stumble upon something that I've never seen from a band that I like!

Super ok
This guy sounds so much like Robert Smith of The Cure.
Olaf Willemse on the drums!
The cure??????
i can‘t believe that i‘m not sering robert smith‘s face in this video
No.
@@franciscosantos9874 Ami me gusta the cure pero the essence El tema es como eso raros por ESO me gusta que the cure escucha sus Album Glow,A monument of trust & nothing last forever esos album Siempre los escucho que malo que no tiene muchos fan Este grupo Pari yo los pongo de unos de mi mejores 10 grupos porque ya no see cuentra asi & ni tiene ni 1 million de jente que Los Mira ESO es lo triste muchos nosaven the Este crupo & la neta se estan perdiendo lo que es Buenno
where are you???
Do ya suppose they were influenced by The Cure? ;)
Somebody is waiting for the teletubbies sun to rise
He looks like a combo of Nicolas Hoult and Robert Smith.

the cure?
Ahh yes, Robert Smith's experiment Dutch period.
Ok, so the lead singer Hans Diener sounds a lot like Robert Smith of The Cure. If only the guy also looks a bit like Ben Affleck, the hollywood actor who also looks like the young Robert Smith. Actually, you can even say they are a mellower version of The Cure but doesn't seem to have the guts to pull-off songs as good as The Cure's best hits like Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven or In Between Days. That said however, I still like The Essence's better songs to The Cure's mellower side tracks. If you know the jangle pop/post punk band Riverside, these are the kind of songs that band has. That band simply just lost out to bands like The Stone Roses and The House of Love coming in at the last stages of the popularity of the post-punk era. But I do miss that era of music a lot. So listening to The Essence today makes me feel like having a fresh lookback at that era and it does feel like they are The Cure and to the uninitiated they could be mistaken for The Cure.
Robert Smith wHO?
It's a bit like a young Val Kilmer doing a Robert Smith impression. Great music though.
The Cure Cover??
Robert Smiths ?????? kkkkkkkk
The Cure is definitely inspired by The Essence.
🤣
teletubbies
Good copy of the cure.
For being The Cure, there was The Cure already... except for the fact that The real Cure had something that couln't be imitated: the genious and the special energy, which The Essence lack
Robert Smith does have more emotions while performing.... plus has way more charisma. JMO, but I do like some songs by The Essence, but they are not The Cure.
the cure sin talento
All the pieces are in place, but the bass line is wrong.
¿y?
I hate people who don't know more music than sounds a lot on the radio and compare,
but this band has always been genuine,
and for my taste better than the cure, more melodious-rhythmic and synth,
the cure have been only pop with an unusual look, that's all
Not true. You clearly haven’t heard more deep, atmospheric and emotional cure songs then.
