:"My friend and I met to ride from Volta Redonda to Porto Real. The idea was to make a new route where few people had gone, returning by Floriano to Barra Mansa without having to pass the Presidente Dutra highway. On a section of the ride, we were forced to pass through the railroad, but it was safe since there was a narrow road that would give us enough security if the train came. Further ahead, our only option would be a tunnel that was short but dangerous, as there was not room if a train came. From our left side there was the river Rio Paraíba do Sul, on the right side a huge rock that was impossible to pass. Before we even thought about going through the tunnel or going back all the way we had already done, the train came. With few options and watching the train pass, we imagined that another would pass immediately and we decided to move on. We began what would be a short stretch but tense, and before we reached the middle of the tunnel, we heard the sound of the train coming towards us. I called to my friend and started to run without being able to look behind, with that honking train. It was a feeling of panic and a lot of fear. After the fright, we continued to travel safely and with the feeling of being born again. "

@@carlastaton4150 I am sure because that's how it works with freight trains. They come far apart to avoid potential issues like delays and collisions.
@@Wobuffet3 I work on the railways and one thing everyone has to learn right away is that not all trains run to regular timetables. An engine can be sent from one depot to another to replace a faulty unit for example. That's not going to show up on any schedule and trespassers certainly won't expect it.
@@carlastaton4150 I never thought of that. All I know is that I live in an area where two different lines cross, and neither line has trains coming anywhere closer than ~30 minutes of each other.

I had a near miss on a train bridge. Deep river underneath. No solid ground, just tracks with about 3/4 foot gaps in between the wood. No siding either. I had no other option but to grow some balls and run. I was terrified, but lesson is, don’t let fear control you. Fear itself is more fatal than what you fear.

i saw a similar thing in real life, dude was biking across a small railway bridge down in a valley, i was above just watching, and literally i saw a train bending the corner so i yelled traiiiin, and watched the dude race AGAINST the train, he made it across and quickly jumped into the ditch with his bike

There are so many dangers on train tracks. Live wires, electrified third rail, and even the trains themselves. A train can take as much as 1 1/2 miles to stop from 125 MPH.
Thinking of this, we should idiot-proof our train tracks and tunnels. Just adding an indent to the walls of a tunnel could save tens, maybe even hundreds of lives.
People shouldn't be in tunnels to begin with, they are railroad property and it's trespassing to be inside them.

where are the "hide holes" (spaces in the tunnel which you can hide in, usually there are ones every 3-5 feet.

I don't know about Brazil, but here in America railroad tracks are private property. This right here is a prime example of why you shouldn't trespass on them.
