- Today we are playing the Battlemaster in a 5 Large Pulse Laser build. This loadout can be very dangerous because it deals its 55 damage very focused. Also the Battlemaster is an Assault Mech and therefore has a lot of armor to work with. The only drawback is the XL engine that makes the Mech somewhat vulnerable. So make sure that you protect your side torsos at all cost. Twist your torso and shield with the massive arm hitboxes.
The build is very easy to play because you only need 3 firing groups: 1 for the left laser array, one for the right laser array and one for chain fire.

Side torso is open I guess....lol. :) Sorry for the annoying situation with your car, but great BattleTech application to RL, ha!
I like to run this build with 4 LPL and a STD engine. A bit slower, but really takes advantage of the tankiness and structure quirks of the mech. You can also squeeze one MPL on there if you like.
Hey mate. I'm exclusively a BLR-2C pilot and I have over 800k xp in this mech. I feel some minor improvements can be made to your playstyle and explanation.
1) Always override shut down when enemies are less than 300m from you
2) You pushed to much on the polar highlands map. The reason you take torso mounts is because they are EXTREMELY High. You can hit everything you see and even some stuff you can't see in tourmaline over those spikes. Hill hump much more in this mech.. Torso twisting was fine. Modules should both be cool shots. I think I have a bigger engine because I got 79kph with speed tweak.
Good build. I'd be curious to see this build redone with one less LPL and a little bit better heat management.
If PGI moves the timeline up to the 3060's we could see Inner Sphere OmniMechs which are first introduced in 3058. :)

If you want, you can do the 5 LPL on the Banshee 3M as well. The mounts are actually higher on the Banshee, if you put in a couple of small lasers to push them up. I generally run it really slow with a STD 300 though...
The mighty "BATTLE HAMSTER" , that was pretty funny, LOL. Sorry to hear about your car, hopefully you can get it fixed quickly. In that first match it looked like you were close to being decapitated by an autocannon.
I know you love running hot builds, but ripping off your car door in winter probably isn't as effective a solution as just running duel cool shots. x3 Thanks for the videos, and keep up the good work!

You need more firecontrol to avoid OH so much. Either bind 2 - 2 - 1 or bind 3 chained - 2 and double tap the chained to fire two. Then wait 1.5 sec, fire 2 more, wait 1.5 sec and fire last. Unless you hit and hide, then tripple tap, wait 1.5 sec and shout the last 2 etc. Shuting down mid fight is not a good solution, unless you know the last shot takes him down and nobody else is around.

I'm so hyped for new weaponsystems! MRMs would be so great, since we only have 2 missile choices... longrange lockon or short range dumpfire... some in medium range would be so great and would make misslies fun for me again. But also light/heavy versions of PPCs, Gauss ect. would be great, as well as rotary autocanons, hyper auto canons, rocketlaunches, heavy lasers, x-pulse lasers. Or even tech like laser anti missile system or IS light engines... the Uziel! =D can't wait for summer and all the new things
How viable would a 6ER Lrg Lsr build be on the 1G chassis? I've seen some people run it but haven't tried it myself.

I'm pretty new at MWO but I have played a lot of the older mech warrior games. Since their announcement bringing in new mech and equipment is this mean we'll get to see like the Mad Cat or even that Thor mech?
Thor is Summoner, Mad Cat is Timber Wolf, Daishi is Dire Wolf... I don't know why there are two names, maybe we can find the answer somewhere in the lore (clanners call the mechs other names, or something). Look at Sarna net. Most known mechs are already in the game, and more coming every year. :)

I've yet to get enough large pulse stockpiled in HBS Battletech to give this one a go. Will have to check the hardpoints, but should be able to do something close with the BLR-1G.
So you've done gauss rifle builds and ppc builds before. What about a gauss and ppc build for some long range sniping?

Hey, I did the exact same thing to my first car!! :) I had a tan Ford Escort Station Wagon, and for the last three or four years that I had it, the driver's side rear door was green. :D It made my car very unique and recognizable, since I never painted the door to match the car. :)
On another note, as a Tier 3 Clan Pilot in Faction Play, this 'mech and loadout is evidence of PGI's cheating on behalf of the Inner Sphere. I can't tell you how many times my medium 'mech with a brand new green center torso is one-shotted by 'mechs with this loadout, and no matter how heavy we are, or how much we focus our retaliation, our entire team of 12 can't take down more than 3 or 4 of those before we're all wiped out by pinpoint annihilation.
Thank you for showing me the weakness of this build: the legs. :) I'll need to work on controlling my panic enough to focus on legs...

Dat 40 leg armor though. I'd rather use a XL350 and not get legged. Not much speed difference.
That said, I've been using this for a while. I generally prefer doing B33f's original wubmaster in a 1G though.

Do you play with a Mouse and Keyboard or a Joystick?
Mouse and Keyboard. I tried Joystick once but it throttled up sometimes even if it was in idle position. I tried to configure it and did some troubleshooting but with no effect. Then I went back to the Keyboard.
I use my 2C with 2 LPL and 4 medium lasers because i have not enough Credits for the XL engine.
Still i´m very satisfied with it, it´s a solid brawler and very reliable once i get close enough.
Feel bad about your car man. My parents actually had a very similar accident when I was a kid.
...and if you want to feel better, I blew out my transmission at the track yesterday. Second such failure in a year.

If you like this build on this mech now, you would have wrecked all faces with it before they took away it's heat gen quirks. I had some of my most monstrously good games of all time in this mech with nearly that exact build (though I played cheeky and stripped a good bit of leg armor to load up more heatsinks) . I used this build:

But now I run the exact same thing on the G variant because it still has the -10% heat gen quirk. You lose the nice structure quirks, but the biggest limitation of this build is heat, so I feel it's worth it so long as you are good at twisting and taking return fire on the arms.
Will the IS get a better engine with the timeline push ?
IS will get LFE which is a middle ground between XL and STD engine. Only useful for mechs with AC20 or 2xUAC5 n the side torso.

I run a BLR with 3LPLs and ERML and got over 1300 dmg in it before.. Love the BLR

you know pulse lasers make alot more heat then ER lasers and ER lasers have a much longer range but make less heat you could swich out the pulse for ER lasers and you would be able to out range the enemy and be more heat efficient if you use ER lasers
large pulses are King, I'd run it with 4 instead of 5, so I could get more than 2 volleys off before overheating.
I'm relatively new and I'm finding LL and LPL to be the best weapon system in the game. Brawling just doesn't work, at least in the chaotic T5. I drop in my centurion ncix with 3 SRM2s 1 AC10 and 2 MLs and I only do well in HPG Manifold. Any other map, and I'm getting killed at 700 meters way before I can even brawl anyone.
On the other hand I drop in my Enforcer 4R with just 3 LLs and I pretty much roll my face across the keyboard and finish with 600 damage.
So much better.

Damn, wish I was seeing this video then instead of a year later. I would have recommended you go to a junk yard and get the door from a totaled car. Would have probably cost like 200 instead.
I find the laser builds a bit dull, but each to there own.

it just occurred to me with the new skill tree system and how the majority of most if not all quirks are being removed from most mechs that need them and with the battle master being one of the top "performing" IS assaults i can see those structure quirks being removed turning that XL into a true death sentance
TaintedLuck I think you can still apply structure or armour quirks with the new system. If PGI do it right, any mech in the game will be good, even Dragons.
Nathan Holstrom The Battlemaster is a good mech. So is the Griffin. And the Thunderbolt. The Enforcer.
Basically all the Resistance and Project Phoenix mechs are good with XLs.

The Warhawk is not a great Clan Assault. The Summoner isn't too good compared to something like a Cataphract. The Mist Lynx and Ice Ferret are also pretty poor mechs. While both sides have better points than the other, Clan mechs in MWO are not outright better than IS mechs. I've outbrawled a Timberwolf in an Orion. I've seen a KingCrab take down a Kodiak. A Stormcrow normally beats a Kintaro.
You seem to overestimate Clan tech.
Nathan Holstrom I'm not backing up the Orion over a Timberwolf. I'm saying that an IS mech can beat a Clan mech in the right hands. Your argument is essentially 'Don't touch IS mechs except Lights'. To be honest, Clan Mediums are outright better than all IS Mediums, except the Griffin, because it's mobile, tanky and packs a punch.
Any mech is good in the right hands, since its all about the pilot.
That chicken leg armor actually works now with the survival skill tree ;)
Still not gonna buy a 360 XL because it's a terrible engine.

Sherudons You'd have to wait a fair bit until you can get Mech mounted Long Toms. We're only just getting the Bushwhacker, so the cool IS weapons will have to wait.

Some of the mechs came with large enough ballistic hard points to use them.
Used to play with a sunder? online in mw4 with two of them, get a clean hit and knock them on their arse if not out right kill them.
Sherudons The Mauler with 2 LBX20 could basically solo any assault, even the Dual HGR Fafnir.

I really can't stand the BLR, it's the only chassis I've ever sold. Consistently being unable to do anything, getting dropped by a sneeze a km away, etc. My Cyclops outdoes it every day. Hell, even my Atlas is better. It's just not for me. That's why I must praise even more what you've been able to show in the video!
with the 2c u have armor quirks, along with the highest xl engine for speed u can kick ass with 6 lpulse, 0 armor on left arm tho
anything slower, or other variants without armor quirks i get my ass kicked,
but with the 2c i destroy people
