This video is one of the 18 video's of The Smoking Time Jazz Club within my list of favourites. The number is still growing. I love this band and singer Sara. The way the dancers are following the music is fantastic. I am sorry that I can't put dollars in the drum because I am sitting at my desktop in the Netherlands. I feel guilty getting all this music for free.
Sarah Peterson's version of this Jazz classic, written by Marion Sunshine circa 1931 and sung by the great Ella Fitzerald with Chick Webb and his Orchestra, who recorded it in 1936, is one of the best I've heard and Smoking Time Jazz Club does a great job with it. The dancers are Chance Bushman and Laura Manning and it doesn't get any better than this!
Marathonracer I couldnt agree more! I am so impressed all around I am blown away. I havent heard anyone sound that authentic singing this genre ever! Close your eyes you're back in time!
People will look back on these times just as we do back last century, but have so much more to feel in touch with, the music, the visuals, the people, each and every nuance and bit of liveliness. And just as we feel a sense of nostalgia and joy with the 20th century, our great grand children will find their nostalgia in ours.
WOW Wonderful music from a great group. I'm a 70yo Aussie from Melbourne,Australia & am convinced that the Melburians would just love to see these musicians live---would this be possible?
Yeah, "That Little Girl can flat out DANCE". That's Laura Manning, choreographer, dancer and dance teacher. She's electric, especially together with Chance Bushman.
+Marathonracer Merci bien! I was looking for their names anywhere! They are both darling and if we get down to NO anytime soon, want to catch them for sure. Sarah's voice give me shivers sometimes. She's darling too! Merci again!
THE TUFF BURN OUT TEAM .com say"s 1 day our TEAM will be in the U.S.A to show every body our show"s but we would LOVE to CATCH up with you guy"s and watch all of your show"s and that would be our proudest moment. you guy"s are just great to listen too
@magicallittlehobo. At the start it looks like they are doing an improvised version of a solo jazz routine called the Tranky Doo. The partnered dancing at the end is lindyhop. Hope this helps you to get dancing.
Great dancing, and not many know that dancing on a hot asphalt paved street is even harder than dancing on broomed exterior concrete. Much more energy is expended when the traction is so high. Despite this, Laura doesn't even stop for a few seconds during the riffs, when Chance kind of rests his legs. For a contrast, watch how Giselle comes to a dead stop when she can on "Livin' In A Great Big Way. That pavement really takes a toll on the leg muscles.
This is on Royal Street in the French Quarter. I would assume they are there during the day on the weekends and most likely have night club gigs on Frenchman Street.
i love how the front line guys all simultaneously pick up their horns as if to take the first solo, then put them down as they see the other two doing the same thing
