I salvaged an 800 and 600.
I heated up an old sharp kitchen knife with a blowtorch and cut the seam of the case.
I found a bad connection on the coil flexible strip connector.
As these parts are near, it is impossible to find I found test pads on the PCB to solder jumper leads directly to the case connectors.
I used polyurethane to seal the enclosure back up and glued an eBay case bumper to hide the join !
Now I have an extra 600 and 800 controllers 😊
Thank you for cutting it open. right after you video i grabbed my 800 and looked very closely at the charging port and coil connection. Thank you one more time
Gigmaster, I spent three and half years on a Navy ship and that saltwater will eat up almost anything!
Oh, the ones I cut open had a crack/lack of plastic fusion on the top - where the handle joins the top lcd surround. Water can enter and drip into the housing, right near the coil connector on the PCB.
Sometimes I just want to tear something apart after a slow day detecting the beach too Gig! 😂 👍

My 800 also leaked when I used it in a heavy rain. Lost 1 month at PA repair center. But they replaced it.

I ordered the Manticore, if it gets here before the lakes freeze completely over I’m going to try it out. If not, it will only be air tests until spring!

What needs to happen is a class action lawsuit for false advertisement.
Minelab is suing Nokta Makro (Minelab basically copied Noktas improvements in the Manticore, 700 and 900). They sued Whites. They sued XP. It's time the customers sued Minelab.
Metal Detecting NYC, put up a video the other day discussing Minelabs financial issues and the parent company Codan. The bizarre reason Minelab dropped the 700 and 900.
There is no vibration or flashlight patented in a metal detector.

It`s unforgivable for Minelab to keep producing these leaky machines like they did. They could have fixed it. Unless there`s something I just don`t understand that prevented them from doing so. It`s disgusting to cheat your customers with defective products that are guaranteed to be destroyed by normal use. It hurts those customers who actually invested in these machines to make an income hunting lost jewelry in the surf. When theirs floods many of them are losing something they can`t afford to replace or even gamble on again.
Isn’t that what the warrantee is for. It’s not like they leak instantly. Usually they go many months or years before they leak

They probably don’t care, they sold expensive technology in a cheap housing, with cheap parts, put some other companies out of business. I suspect that may have been part of the goal.
@@BlackSilverTreasure -My first leak occurred 2 months after buying it, …..while washing the salt water off at the end of the day, due to the events of 2020…..it took 6 months for me to get my detector back from them…..after complaining, I did get a hat and pair of gloves for the lost 6 months…and my “trouble”. Second leak occurred……..I’ll save that for another day…..☹️

There is a new nox 900 and 700 which they are saying that they have fix the water issue
I think you will find it has a OPEN through-hole from the batter compartment straight into the control box, look to one side of the battery cable and you will see a open hole, I have been saying about this for years
absolutely nothing to stop water breaching the battery bung and getting into the control box, the O rings in the battery bung are no good, especially as the battery bung is hollow and not solid

I know I’m late to the video but if it was me I’d probably clean it up and power it up and mess with it till at least till I got zapped haha one thing I learned about those ribbon cables they will and can back off their connection .
I had a pinball machine I was selling played the hell out of it thinking I might miss having it in my collection .It sold I played till the day the guy came for it everything was working amazing guy shows up the micro screen stopped working . I felt horrible , kind of scared the hell out of the guy and the guy he left . So I Looked it up online sure enough the flat cable backed out . I promise with in maybe 15 minutes later and a couple screws to reseat the ribbon . I call the guy he was too chicken and scared of it . I explained everything to him even took pictures and told him it was a common problem look it up himself . Anyways he called me two days later and bought my machine .I was glad he didn’t get it home and it did that because he wasn’t familiar with pins enough to work on them so really bullet dodged . I offered to help in the future if he needed .
Anyways I know you had water but I’d try to clean it and maybe it was a combination of the two . Thanks for your video , I know last time I told you I just bought two 800s for me and my son and our plan was river detecting . Last night I bought a simplex haha I just can’t put them in the river knowing you had so many leaking problems. So thank you again for the update and the info . You probably saved 2 800s life’s and a really disappointing day for me . I can’t believe you bought 4 haha and I thought I was a brat 🤭all in the name of having fun totally worth it . I love metal detecting it’s the best
Looks like one of the capacitors and a transistor is corroded. Should be an easy fix.

Are you planning to try out any of the new Minelab offerings, Manticore or the two new Nox models? I'm interested to see if those are actually any different, other than a few little aesthetic improvements.

If you power it up without the coil connected to the board, do you get a "CD" on the display? I would attempt to fix it if you send it to me to tinker with. I'm have an EE degree and tinker some. Always enjoy your videos and tips!
It does and some functions worked but it was not useable to me. Got a couple that may tinker with it i will let ya know. Thanks!

After watching one of your vids I submerged 2 of my flooded 800’s in a 5gl bucket, both were leaking through the battery breather port. Now my 3rd replacement doesn’t touch water! 🤣. I have the D2 for that! Love your vids Gig! 🤙

Yeah sure.. Let's just buy another similar machine with slight hardware updates from a company that have never adressed the initial problems on the original units and continued to sell them as is and prefered to come up with ""new"" machines to make more profits on the back of the customers because they know they will buy it. Just like Apple company :p
What I don't understand is you say it's been replaced "multiple" times under warranty. Then why would they continue to send you back the same pod/control housing with the same cracks around the charging port ? Why wouldn't they replace the whole unit ? Doesn't make sense. Unless you have a problem pulling the charge cable off. I know that can be rather difficult at times causing undo pressure. But you must be one of the very few that had one fail at that port.
ALL my friends had multiple failures and each time they sent me a brand new one and it leaked.
they do send you a brand new pod and unit but the new ones have the same flooding issues as well. they have not corrected any of the issues on the new pods they send out.
Did they all have failures at the charging port ? Still didn't answer why the one you cut open , with cracks in the port , has been through warranty multiple times. And it still has cracks.....
@@randygoodno7856 because it is the same construction as the other pods for the equinox they did not bother solving the original problem. so after using it. it leads to more cracks developing.
