- The 2010 Brunswick Euro Challenge, a European Bowling Tour Gold tournament, drew 448 players from 34 countries. Among the 351 men were 33-time PBA champion and 2-time PBA Player of the Year, Norm Duke, 32-time PBA champion and 2-time PBA Player of the Year, Parker Bohn III, reigning U.S. Open champion and runner-up in the 2009-10 PBA Player of the Year race, Bill O'Neill. Watch how the three PBA stars release the bowling ball (in slow motion).
I believe that Parker Bohn III has one of the best approach and releases...extremely smooth.

This is very educational. For those who want to study the game and improve their own shot making, this video is a much watch. Thanks for posting!
great video!!! webber, mallot an WR next
@TheAmpad I had the same problem, my problem was the angle of the thumbslug. Go to your local proshop, get you grip measured, and ask them to sand the thumbslug to fit you before they glue it, then you can insert your fingers, and adjust it to be exactly the right angle for you, and glue.
Also remember, don't grab with your thumb, tape the hole up till your thumb and fingers hold the ball without you actually trying to hold it. It should sit enough to not let go in the swing, but at the release
Brian C @TheAmpad You have to get a thumb insert or slug properly fitted for your thumb so that it can come out of the ball easier. Also if you're getting torn skin on your thumb, you're clutching the ball when you throw. That results in pulling the ball alot. Keep your thumb straight and use tape on the outside of your thumb to help make it comfortable. I did and I actually developed more revs than i did before.
Curling the pinky allows the two middle fingers to apply the proper lift and angle desired. If the ball needs to go longer and straighter, Norm will spread his forfinger and pinky finger to apply more drag on the ball.
@silver05M6 itll tend to add a few revs to your ball. with nothin on th left side of the ball holding it back like an extended finger it will tend to spin a little faster causing higher revs. Itll help gain revs without messin with your wrist on the release as well so it doesnt wear out your hand as faster as trying to use your wrist to add revs. hope this made sense.
Great video, thanks for posting it!
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing.
@phoenixgm According to what it says under the description, it's Julien Jabre - Swimming Places (Pete Heller Main Mix).
@silver05M6 i read somewhere that it gives the wrist a little more snap when realeasing the ball. i guess...?
NICE !!!
What kind of camera u use?
@TheAmpad The thumb should come out easily. Works much easier drilled for fingertip grip. If you really want to improve your release, take your ball into local pro shop or two and tell them your problem. They should be able to help you get it worked out.
@silver05M6 when you curl/tuck your pinky it changes your hand position slightly so you have a bit more 'hand' on the ball. It's not something you will do on every lane condition though. Some days (like the other night) you may be fine with this on both lanes to start, but at game 2 the left lane is okay with a tucked pinky (more revs/hook) while the right lane will simply overhook so you untuck the pinky and the ball will sit just fine. Just another hand position to use. :)

@TheAmpad ya i tried the samething but all of our hands and releases are different so you cant mimic someones just do your own thing and see what the pros do and take away the major skill points and aply them to your own realse
@Swagasoaris Norm always gets out of the ball cleaner than just about anybody. This is because he not only doesn't use finger grips, he doesn't bevel the fingerholes either. This means they have edges that are really sharp. This pretty much forces him to get out of the ball clean, otherwise he'll mess his fingers up.
i noticed their pinky finger is always 'bent in'.. is there some kind of trick here??
@silver05M6 curling your finger actually increases your rev rate. Try it!
@TheAmpad
I hope you realized that they '' open '' their wrist at the release to let the thumb go out loose...!?
@silver05M6 Tucking the little finger is a trick to get more revs on a ball. I've tried it but didn't like its strange feeling.
Of course techniques are only as good as how well they are excuted, and very few people can really perform them to perfection.
This is the first time I noticed that these bowlers "curl" their pinky finger. What is the point of that?
which remix is it though? It's not the Pete Heller one...
SONG: JULIEN JABRE - SWIMMING PLACES
Looks like Norm Duke's right leg snaps at the knee @ 1:43....and yes that rhymes.
@phoenixgm - julien jabre-swimming places (original mix)
anyone knows name of the song in background. I know I was listineng that song like 5+ years ago, just wonna remember old house stuff tnx.
this is what im trying to learn, how to roll the ball
cleanly off my hand. if you have any tips for me please inbox me. i would really appreciate it
I'm sure he can go back and forth, but i'm surprised Norm curls his pinky.
Yeah, don't copy the pros or anyone else for that matter, just bowl the way you feel comfortable throwing. I'm a straight thrower, i've never hooked the ball in my life. My highest ever score is a 224 & last month bowled a 215. My handicap/average is a 150. It's all i can to bowl atleast a 200. The pros like Parker Bohn, Pete Weber, & the rest of 'em bowl into the 200's all of the time, 'cuz that's what they do all the time, is bowl, bowl, bowl. lol ...I bowl on my Nintendo Wii, it helps out.

Gives them more axis rotation or more hook to the ball.
@TheAmpad You must have had some1 drill your ball wrong man. If your ball fits your fingers perfectly and you have the flexibility to handle tucking the finger like that you thumb should never get tore up. seems like your having to grip the ball too much which means your length between thumb and fingers is most likely too short.
anyone knows whats the name of this old song??? i forgot :-(((
@TheAmpad Its not their balls its you...when you got that happen it means your release is not the natural way..It basically means you focus too much on a "unnatural" forced release and the most problem with this is that people will turn their wrist before thumb clear the hole and you get all kinds of thumb problem. Also, you could be grabbing or pressing too hard with thumb. Anyway house balls are usually not drilled for you and there is no oven shape hole in there so larger chance of injury.
Umm...the pinky is tucked on quite a few bowlers nowadays. Bowling sure has changed since I was an avid bowler.
They know how to hook bowling balls
That weight hole that Norm had didn't move at all, not until the backend. O_O Just spun in a circle.
Norm Duke gave everybody the look that says, "I'm about to open a can of whup-ass!" lol. He's such a clutch bowler, one of my favorites. Btw, I would love to know the name of this song and where I can download it.
Open it for mobile phones to see please
@TheAmpad dont imitate the release, release the ball the way youd like to or feel comfertable throwing down the lane
TNX for song name!
thats what my ball does i have the same exact pap all the way down lane
просто супер
@silver05M6 more revs
it looked like a porno when norm was walking back
this video made me dizzy
