I have a K700S slider and it’s been great! When I ordered it, I was able to upgrade the outrigger crosscut fence to the larger Format fence with DRO’s and heavy duty flip stops. It’s a great setup for me. Nice Altendorf though! 😁👍🏻
For sure K700S is an excellent prosumer to light commercial saw 80% of the functionality for 50% of the price of high end machines regardless of brand, single phase too. Expensive differences are scoring blade features, CNC rip, parallelogram fence and machining quality less stamped metal - extruded parts more machined components. Weight alone the K700S weighs 1500# this Altendorf is 3200#, Martin is 4500# just massively built machines. Each brand has different models in the line up do you want the compact truck, F150, F250 v8 or F350 diesel super duty?
Getting into woodworking some 10 years ago I visited a large show in Atlanta with all the brands of machines. I ended by getting Martin buying the compact saw with several options. Those were digital miter angle on the out rigger, longer slider for 10 foot lengths, and , digital rip fence and extendable fence on the cross cut. I did not get the motorized rip because I wanted to be able to measure previously cut pieces by using the rip fence and checking compression touch at the blade kerf. Take a closer look at the Martin next time you need a new model. I had worked briefly for two shops with older Altendorf models and noticed the slider bearings were rough after some years of use. Also the larger slider models of the Felder brand (K and Format 4) at that time did not have a list of options like Martin. Today the K700 has a locking slider feature like the Martin sliding table. The flip stops on the Felder were not as sturdy. I have the Felder shaper Format4 with their longest sliding table and that is still competitive. The Martin saw has a cranking and lock feature on the left side of the slider table that negates walking around the saw numerous times to set the rip fence-no other brand has this and I did not want controls on the operator end of the sliding table. I have adapted hold down clamps from the Felder line to fit the Martin slider groove and this allows me to measure odd pieces from the digital rip fence setting to place and hold that piece on the slider table. I agree with you that lots of additional electronic settings I could have gotten on the Martin may have been too many gold necklaces on my neck-haha. The 350 MM size blade with the scoring option was also not available on the Felder. The older Martin I have has scoring from compressed air not electronic. I rarely used scoring as most of my wood is solid. I miss the Baltic Birch plywood now that Putin has stopped exporting. Good luck with your work. Vincent in Chicago My Martin is about 3000 lbs and needs fork extensions if you want to lift it and move around. Trucks-I have the Sprinter turbo Diesel with 8ft bed. I was shopping trucks and almost bought the smaller Toyota but then there was the Sprinter Diesel beckoning me. Felder is not a company to stock certain things I need and their shaper tooling $$ markup is out of sight! When you buy new as I have it saves lots of tears later. I contacted Altendorf when they were linked to another corporation and their sales person for my area called to tell me Altendorf was the Cadillac of saws. I had the Martin sitting on my floor and said to myself: "he probably is thinking Cadillac with fins from years ago".
My problem with Martin is their sales are super slow to return calls and turn around quotes. I actually signed a T65 quote and mailed it in asked them to call for deposit a week went by no one called so I was lime forgettaboutit went with Altendorf. Its a year later and I recently bought Martin T54 and T45 which was a long process too. Thanks for sharing your comments this helps people out split between the brands.
Hi Brian, I had a K700S I think that is a step up from the K700. These sliders come in different levels and automation at the time I bought the K700S I was thinking the price was crazy compared to a cabinet saw but after I added up my festool tracks, saw, parallel guide and safety speed cut HS5 panel saw I was almost at the K700S. I did not want to spend more then I received my K700S and was like WOW sliders are the way to go. K700S is a very good machine mine did not have a CNC rip fence or digital outrigger, I had an index fence which was very nice manually moving to fixed angle degrees but that was analog as well. The outrigger extension could be a little sticky, the flip stops are nice but not the same as a higher end machine, the scoring blade is a single blade and manual x axis adjust. Most of those are price point features at this level you get XYZ. I did like it was single phase and one third the cost of this machine so it is a great value. I looked into a Kappa but those were a year out so I moved on Altendorf and Martin. What I found later on after buying additional Felder machines out of my sales region became more difficult.
Jay, I always wanted to know more about the Altendorf saws. Thank you for walking us through yours. It seems to be really nice.

If the Altendorf slider table was rough, it shows that it was not looked after properly. Best slider in the business
I bet many Felder users are jealous watching this video.
Wow! Very cool!
Yessssss!!! Nice video Jay….
Hey Max, thanks for commenting!!
What were the things you didn’t like about the k700?

Impressive machine.
Disappointing vocal fry.
Man up millennial.
Nice ECHO, don't make videos if they are inaudible.
Buy better speakers, the video is 100 percent audible. Don’t hate when it’s your fault.
