Traxxas deserves IMMENSE recognition for this. Try to think of a single other company that gives you 50% (that’s major) an upgrade. Even Apple won’t hook you up with anything near that if you buy a laptop and it’s outdated the new month. I just bought my first Traxxas today, and I’m stoked to learn that the company is awesome like this. Very, very cool. I already love this hobby!
Been running this brushless setup in my TRX-4 Bronco for almost a year and I love it! I did use the smallest pinion gear on the brushless motor as well as swapping out the ring and pinion gears in both diffs. I swapped them to the Traxxas under drive gear set. This allows it to still crawl real slow like with the brushed motor but it's much smoother because you're gearing down the brushless motor. But in high gear it kicks ass! It'll yank the front tires off the ground at will! The nasty sloppy mud bogs that will stop the stock TRX-4 aren't much of a problem now!
Just replaced the motor in my Big Foot as the brushes at night looked like a arc welder. But that is after over 2 years of running in the dry dirt in the desert of Arizona. If I go brush less think the 4 wheel drive Slash would be a good option for me But, the Big Foot stays.
I highly recommend an RPM front bumper (available in black, blue, green and red) for that sweet truck. I know it may take away some of the scale looks-but the added protection it provides is worth it.
Absolutely love what you've done with the body, can you perhaps give some more details? Do you have a pictures or a video offering more detail perhaps?
This guy is a legend he does not edit he takes you throu step by step I don’t do any of the things he shows but it just helps to know so keep up the great work
I decided to upgrade my rustler brushed to the velenion system. A few days later I was road driving and the A arm on my left rear end broke. I wanted to get just a simple aluminum replacement. I ended up getting the entire thing in aluminum, changing to “TQI” remotes, an entirely new aftermarket non traxxas steering unit, new axles that are not traxxas, and a “ limited slip dif. I just finished I can not wait. Ps I also got some traxxas lipo batteries
Nice video, simple and well presented but as a Big Foot nr owner I happy with brushed motor but I can tell that the wheels have lack of good grip on real ground surface. Big Foot tires are too slick compering to Kyoahos Mad Van. Can you recommend any other tires that will have more grip and will fit Big Foot ?
I just went to my local hobby shop and they said that the motor and esc had to be in working condition and it would be 130.00 to do the power up program
Hello! Really well done for the channel! Exceptional! Is it possible in your opinion to put the Bigfoot body on the Brushless 2WD Stampede without having to make changes such as (more importantly) do not pierce the body again and do not change the towers of the Stampede 2wd brushless? Tanks!!!
You can use the regular TQ system with the VXL brushless system. Make sure that you follow the included directions on how to calibrate the ESC, and you should be just fine
HI I HAVE DONE THIS UPGRADE 2 WEEKS AGO & NOW THE CAR IS UNUSABLE AS I CANNOT KEEP THE FRONT END DOWN? i have now wound up the front shocks to lower the front a little & now fitted a socket across the front bumper to ad weight i have yet to try this out i may have to stop using 3s & go back to 2s ? But it was insane on 3s :
Is Traxxas still doing this because I have two sets of the xl-5 brushed system with everything I would definitely trade it in and pay the difference for a velineon.
Hey bro. I have a redcat blackout im looking for aluminum upgrades .. Redcat doesn't have alot for blackout do other 1/10 parts fit on the blackout... Redcat wont even give measurements or anything... Need help
I have a Redcat Racing Ground Pounder & nobody that I have found makes aftermarket parts 4 bling points. What would you suggest I do 2 it so I get better performance out of it?AND will the truck run on 2 cell LIPO in its stock form? I do plan on putting RC4WD Demolisher Tires on the truck so I will need MORE POWER. 😎higherpower
Hello if anyone with knowledge in the game can help me out I really appreciate it.. , Im new to electric RC trucks. I use to run Nitro but its been 10 years or more.. I recently purchased a new 1/10 scale traxxas slash w/ the XL5 /12 t basic motor. Im not even sure what factory pinion /spur gear comes in this basic truck but I just bought the upgraded Traxxas Velineon Brushless Motor & ESC VXL-3s OBA 3500 kit. should I just swap it out with whatever factory spur/pinion gears are in the basic truck or should I switch out the pinion or spur gear (I have NO clue) & does it matter which gear is swapped out (pinion or spur ?? ) I would prefer the best of both worlds good torque when I punch it & good overall speed, Im not necessarily looking for all torque or all top end kinda the best of both ?? any help would be great.. Thank you side note. what's better the Traxxas Velineon Brushless Motor & ESC VXL-3s OBA Waterproof 3500 or Castle Creations Sidewinder SW4 Waterproof 1/10 ESC/Motor Combo w/1406 (4600kV)? Again Thanks
I have both the castle and velineon. I’ve had the castle for a year and a half and have had no issues. I’ve had the velineon for a month with out any issues. The velineon is $170 and the castle is $110.00 there doesn’t seem to be a big difference in perfect to spend the extra $60 for the velineon. Both have torque and are fast. I haven’t raced the two side by side but I think the velineon might be 1-3 mph faster. Their both in slash 2wd same gearing. Both of them it’s hard to get it full throttle on 3s because they flip Over backwards. You can be at 3/4 throttle and punch it and they’ll still go over backwards. Their both power houses. Which ever one you get you’ll be happy with it. Hope this helps. And questions just ask.
If you don't remember where your slipper was set, here's what you can do: 1) Tighten the slipper nut all the way down until you feel it come to a stop. 2) Loosen the slipper nut 1 full turn (this will give you a good starting point that traxxas recommends). 3) Go drive your vehicle and readjust the slipper as needed.
I did this to my truck and I run on 3s I have never been able to take it full throttle because it just wheelies as long as I’m on it. Do you have any hearing suggestions I’m currently running the original gears from the titan 12 turn and I think it’s too low
Not necessarily. If your driveshafts are holding up to your driving, just keep using them. I've got a Castle brushless system in my 2WD Rustler and I still run plastic driveshafts with no issue. I use the slipper clutch to my advantage because I run on loose, low-traction dirt
Ok so the VXL system is 170 but on the form it says i can get the vxl for 150 after trading in my xl5 system how is 150 50% off 170? i'm really confused
Tashun Pikovsky you usually upgrade to lipo batteries along with this upgrade, as well as the gearing. You will get more power out of a lipo battery first and foremost, then there is more power from the motor.
I love your vids, but I personally wouldn't recommend Velineon ESC's. They overheat way too fast. Especially for your kids running in the grass with the Bigfoot. Good job on bringing an old build from a previous video series back! I also think that doing daily giveaways would increase your views, subs, likes, ad shares. As a result of that positive increase, your UA-cam income will most likely too! As well as supportive sponsors.
EvHex RC-all ESCs and motors will heat up fast if you’re constantly running your truck in grass or anything else that creates a lot of resistance on your vehicles ability to roll easily. Did you try using the VXL ESC fan-that could help keep your ESC cooler? Also, if you’re swapping out the XL-5 system for the Velineon system-you should change the gearing as well. Try the stock gearing for the Stampede VXL for your Bigfoot-that’s what I did when I installed this system in my Skully along with swapping out the wheel bushings for ball bearings.
EvHex RC-that was my intention, to try to help anyone who’s not experienced in our hobby who might be upgrading to this system or is having problems. I also failed to mention for a newbie, the bronze bushings for the wheels should be (in my opinion) swapped out with ball bearings as soon as the truck is taken out of the box.
Gregory Guza correct! Check out my other UA-cam channel (EvHexRC1) for RC videos!!! Also, it's not that I'm not a fan of Velineon; Velineon is high quality! I use it myself, I just am kind of a castle fanatic. Btw I'm doing a giveaway on my other channel soon!
Lol I'm definitely not getting this is system cause more than my truck I paid 139 for my truck N that cost around 140 I would rather by another car its still a great item do u know any thing $100 or less esc and brushless motor that splash proof
Yeah an RC expert who has been in the game forever really needed that Captain obvious and FYI it's a traxxas most of it screws into plastic so loctite does nothing
@@hallbros305 I've got a Castle 3800kv 1410 motor in my rustler with factory gearing (16/90) and a 2s LiPo. If I had to take a guess at my speed, it's probably around 30 mph. It's definitely faster than the stock brushed system but what's most noticeable is the truck pulls to top speed quicker.
Dont do the power up system .... they say 50% but that's a lie... I talked to my local hobby shop about it and they showed me the numbers on it so I went hobbywing.... more power for less
Please, please, please, please don't do the power up for the motor and esc. You have options like the Hobbywing Max 10 with actual programming options, more power and it even costs less. You can also do the same with the Castle SCT system. In addition to that the motors come in several KV ratings to accommodate your driving style. The promotion of that VXL upgrade is negligent. I'm disappointed ...
The paint job on the body screams the 80s. Love it!

Sounds like you created a real monster!!!👍🏻...
Thank you so much for telling me about the power up program its gonna save me a lot of money
I wasn’t aware of the “Power Up” program, thanks for sharing 👍🏻

Great information and also love the paint on big foot very classy
Power-Up Program? Genius. Traxxas for life.
I've seen other company's do this first, it's good traxxas has these because their cars are quite pricey
Thank you for the update on the power up program didn't know you could do that so cool THANK YOU GOOD VIDEO
I never hurt over power up but is so good, thank you so match
Dude thx, I’m upgrading my Traxxas Grave digger to the vxl
Yes
I highly recommend an RPM front bumper (available in black, blue, green and red) for that sweet truck. I know it may take away some of the scale looks-but the added protection it provides is worth it.
I might do this after school one of these days
Absolutely love what you've done with the body, can you perhaps give some more details? Do you have a pictures or a video offering more detail perhaps?

And just think for all that shit you bought you could have got a xmaxx lol I did the same thing with my slash it has over 1000$ in it easy.
Slipper clutch. That's funny. I always tightened those down until just before the nut stripped. I like posi-traction.
Does a tight slipper clutch break your driveshafts?
I do the same thing. Every time I back it off even a little it slips and just plain drives like crap.
Great tips on assembly. Great purchase power tips
Good looking rig!

For offroad conditions, look at the 2.8 inch trenchers and badlands from proline. Some of the best offroad bashing tires out there, in my opinion.

Where did you get your monster truck wheels I got a slash 4 wheel drive and I need some big wheels
Ebay or amazon. Search for stampede monster jam wheels.
thanks for speeding through that and not giving angles where you could see what your'e doing.
I would ask a Question! ...BUT, ....It looks like I would never get a response after seeing all the unanswered questions below.
Yeah I noticed the same as well!
didnt know about the power up program thank you
Where you got the kit love it
Can you recommend the metal servo saver for the Traxxas Original Bigfoot?, i already broke the servo saver twice

All your reviews and very good indeed but in the UK they are way to expensive and I could never buy them thanks anyway.
Just get hobbywing. They are really good quality and so are their lipos

as always, good!
Now all you need is 3s lipo and say hello to the backflips
Vxl 3s velineon systems are good you just can't overgear them 9-10t pinion 54 spur 2.8 tires 👍
I have a crazy idea of putting this set up in an old RC10B44.3, why? Because why not, lol
What’s better. The velineon motor or the castle creations sidewinder sct 1410 motor.
The Big Bad O castle creations
Velineon motor plus ESC is $300 here!
I want to do this but adjusting the slipper clutch so it’s how it was when it came seems to hard
If you don't remember where your slipper was set, here's what you can do:
1) Tighten the slipper nut all the way down until you feel it come to a stop.
2) Loosen the slipper nut 1 full turn (this will give you a good starting point that traxxas recommends).
3) Go drive your vehicle and readjust the slipper as needed.
Where did you get that body

Try a 2s lipo or buy a wheelie bar and adjust it so it won’t wheelie as much
Put some weight on the front
Loosen your slipper clutch a little bit.
is that a lipo only moter
They also take Nimh packs
Should I change the drive shaft on the stampede 2wd I have?
Not necessarily. If your driveshafts are holding up to your driving, just keep using them. I've got a Castle brushless system in my 2WD Rustler and I still run plastic driveshafts with no issue. I use the slipper clutch to my advantage because I run on loose, low-traction dirt
protrac that stampede man! or just wide mod it, just plz do it. i cant stand seeing different offsets on stampede/rustler
Hi Greg, i have a curious question can Traxxas velineon vxl motor with say a Dynamite esc?
No dynamite is a different brand
Where to buy brushless motor ?
Can you make a video bow to make the rc monster truck 4 wheel drive
Ok so the VXL system is 170 but on the form it says i can get the vxl for 150 after trading in my xl5 system how is 150 50% off 170? i'm really confused
I really need this
what the best battery for the bigfoot I just got the truck and want to have better run time
2S LiPo with a capacity of 5000mAh or greater.
I know I’m late but can’t you also get a castle system through the power up program.
The Rc Maniac yeah, the mamba monster
What's the amp rating on those escs?
Can you trade in multiple things to 1 thing or a new car
Hello I'm just getting into these electric rc's and bought the vxl recently. Where did you find that body at ? Can you provide a link please.
Jason Little thats the factory big foot body
Would any of these products work for a traxxas ford raptor and would more powerful batteries like the 5 series 5000nimh
Tashun Pikovsky you usually upgrade to lipo batteries along with this upgrade, as well as the gearing. You will get more power out of a lipo battery first and foremost, then there is more power from the motor.
Does arrma have any thing like this?
The trade thing doesn't work for the UK I don't think.
What's a better faster system then the vxl system I have vxl system now on 3s and different gearing it's ok but I'm looking for more
northsideryders of you can afford it, get the castle creations 3800kv combo.
Hobbywing or castle definitely the two Best
I’m getting one after my yard sale
Hola si es del mismo tamaño el velineon que el 12t

Gool RC if your on a budget you can get a brushless set up ESC and all for 40 to 60$ and they are decent then you can get a better ESC later.

awesome. thanks

Hobbywing
Where you get that body
Custom painted traxxas bigfoot classic body
eBay
That's Bigfoot #1 repainted
1 question, if I was to do this power up program and get the system you have here. Can I still run non lipo batteries? I don't currently use lipo's.
Dustin Salisbury yes you can still use your NIMH batteries.
BagTagmike1 thanks. Planning to switch to lipo eventually.
Over here that upgrade kit cost as much as my Traxxas skully! The truck cost £215, and the velineon kit costs £200 RIP.
RC Doge, that's in the US, in the UK there is also tax, shipping and more markup, this makes them way too expensive.
RC Doge, oh, UK is just too expensive.
Maybe you should open a PO Box in France. XD
PYROxSYCO, lol
it is better the stampede vxl is cheaper the price
Great
They still do this program?
Yes. I did it with my radio system about a year ago.
Dus it only work on 2x2
Horsecheer Girls 2x2 means it only has 2 wheels. You mean 2wd. Also, no it also works on 4x4 and 6x6 and so forth.
Horsecheer Girls does
Horsecheer Girls no
or couldn't someone just buy a Stampede VXL for $80 more and have the Velineon set up, plus the TSM radio etc, and then just put a Big Foot body on?
Can you trade in parts
Isn’t that the Incorrect Gearing for The Velineon motor?
It depends on your setup, along with your driving style and conditions.
