Just got a camper shell and stumbled upon your video, i didnt have a clue how i was going to seal it, but thanks to your video i can do this by myself and also a great idea on sliding the camper shell on and off the the truck...thanks for making my life easier 👏👍✌️
Bish bash bosh !! Done .... Excellent job every video should be done this way. 10/10. Watched this went to local DIY store purchased seal got home fitted and sealed thankyou
Oh - this is GREAT! Much better than those double-stickysided strips they sell! Don't have t scrape them off and buy a new roll every time you pull and then replace the shell! Just cut garage-strip to size and sandwich it between rail and shell! 👍🏽
Very nice of you to comment on a few of my videos, especially your ‘video style and editing’ words… thank you. FYI (just yesterday): cap shifted over winter, used pry-bar to straighten seal after loosening bolts.
You must be a tradesman, like it and will be doing my camper soon. Found a used Century cap for my Tacoma short bed for $150, still intact and windows all around. Just have to change the uplifters and a few add ons before I go for a camping trip.
Agreed with another person. Don’t know why you would use this method over regular weatherstripping. 3M makes an excellent weatherstripping. You can purchase it in quarter half three-quarter or 1 inch up to 2 inches wide and all sizes of thicknesses. Has an incredible adhesive that adheres to the bottom of the shell. The foam is dense enough not to rip as you slide the shell onto the truck. Works perfect and last for over 10 years. This method seems like a real hassle. Just my 2 cents.
The blue tape holds the rubber strip in place on the bed rail behind the cab while I install the side pieces. It kept falling down or ended up crooked when I lifted the topper with the pry bar to adjust the side strips. Thanks for viewing my video and for your question.
I don't quite understand why or how to use the blue painters tape. I am looking for a system to easily remove and replace the topper. This system seems to be ideal. Thanks!
The blue tape is to hold the rubber strip to the bed rail. I only taped the one behind the cab because it would fall out or shift during shell install. Hope the stand design works for you. Thanks for commenting.
No, the foam strip is just sandwiched between the truck bed and the topper. I use my pickup without the cap in the summer so I like the bed rails clean. And I drag the shell off/on the wood cradle and I believe that the foam would rip if it were attached. Thanks for writing.
Hi. I bought one roll of the door seal and cut it into three pieces. So, one strip of foam seal for each the three (two sides, one behind cab) truck box tops. Hope this helps - thanks for your comment!
You're the only one on UA-cam that actually knows what he's doing. Thanks for the video!
Yours has to be the best comment Ive gotten on my videos. I appreciate the compliment very much.

I really appreciate your kind words about the video. Its gratifying to know it helped you with your truck. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Not a word said. I love it.

I’m glad you found and watched my video and took the time to leave a nice comment - thank you! I trust the garage seal will work well with your truck.
Thanks a lot for the great idea. I found a great deal on an A.R.E. cap ($150) but it needs a little tlc.
Great video style and editing...subbed.

This is pretty smart, nicely done.
Thanks for your kind comment!!
Great video, will use this idea on my truck in Australia :)
Drew, I appreciate your comment very much - thank you.
Thank you sooooo much! Ive been trying to find a solution without adhesive!
I'm very glad this will work for you. It continues to hold up perfectly on my truck. Thanks for your comment.
Just got a used topper for $100 at a junkyard. Really needed an idea for a gasket. Thanks
Sounds like a great deal. The seal will keep out the weather. Thanks for your comment.

Very kind for you to comment! I hope the gasket works well on your topper - mine continues to keep the rain out. Thanks!
Perfect video. Thanks.

Have a link to post? Can't seem to find the items you've mentioned
Just type in 3M foam stripping on Amazon. You’ll find different widths and just make sure you get a dense one. Read the descriptions.
ty for this suggestion
I pick my topper up on thursday, why the painters tape only on the bulk head?. Great video!!!

@@98point6 thanks for information, found out the people I'm buying the topper from are installing it.

Perfect 🥰 Thanks!
Glad it worked for you. Appreciate your comment.
Sweet! Thanks for the great idea!
Now, I’m gonna skip the double sticky stuff.
I'm glad it will work for you. Thanks for commenting!
But is that 2 packages for an 8' bed?
No, you can buy different lengths in a single package depending on the size of your garage door. Thanks for your comment.
98point6 - Any problem with rain making it through this style of gasket?
None. I guess the spots would be where the strips crisscross at the front corners but I’ve had no leaks. Thanks for your question.
@@98point6 thanks for the reply. Seems like a great idea, should be very durable.
Thank you, sir!
Glad you liked the idea enough to comment, I appreciate it...thanks.
Do you need to apply a glue of any kind? I was told the 2-part epoxy with the double tube rubber seal.
No, the foam strip is just sandwiched between the truck bed and the topper. I use my pickup without the cap in the summer so I like the bed rails clean. And I drag the shell off/on the wood cradle and I believe that the foam would rip if it were attached. Thanks for writing.
I know this video was two years ago but….if I understand correctly, you used three layers of the garage door seal?
Hi. I bought one roll of the door seal and cut it into three pieces. So, one strip of foam seal for each the three (two sides, one behind cab) truck box tops. Hope this helps - thanks for your comment!
So you're saying garage door seal and foam? 3 layers of seals and foams between each layers.
Great Idea instead of tape.
Thank you for your comment. I also used the foam strip on a Ford Ranger.
That is NOT a truck camper. It is NOT a shell. It is a topper.
