Something about your uncut content that's so relaxing. Love the longer camping videos. Feels like we're just chillin with you. Nice little escape. Appreciate the content!
That seal is referred to as a "Double-Bulb" Seal. I would use a garden hose to test the seals before I went camping in the rain...that way if it works/fails you'll know before hand.
Check the windows as well. There should be weep holes on outside of frame at the bottom to shed water. If they plug with debris, water will build up to the inside of frame and leak down onto rail. Place I work for sells truck caps, and we see that a lot, as well as the front corner of the bed bulkhead. Good luck!
@@CrazyQuady Yep should be able to. Garden hose is good troubleshooting tool as well. You can strategically place water in different spots for an amount of time to help narrow down where leak may be. That's how I find water leaks on vehicles in general. Hey if you ever make it to Ohio, look me up, got some cool places to camp around here.
@@daemonjeep now that is what I'm talking about., when people can give positive suggestion instead the dude Mr something on a post here, he is a jerk. I pulled my camper top and cleaned both the bedrail and the underside of the camper top. I used silicone and reattached. My top didn't leak anymore. The windows that you have are also a potential source for leaks.
Need to go to a marine boat Place ,buy some 5200 caulking they sell it in white I would cut tip big enough and roll a nice bead wait about half hour or one hour and set your topper back down. Buy the one that fits in a caulking gun.then if you have any left over put it in refrigerator will keep from hardening so you can use it later on. Great video.
Yeah right!! DO NOT USE 3M 5200!! IT IS A PERMANENT ADHESIVE!! TAKES 7 DAYS TO COMPLETELY CURE AS WELL. YOU WILL NOT GET THE TOPPER OFF AGAIN WITHOUT A SAWSALL OR DET CORD!!
Mike, I see your channel growing, thanks for all your hard work, fun times while camping 🏕 enjoy Mike..R tv good choice.. forget b say. I took a can of the foam sealer, and stuffed with the foam the shaved off top, smooth and seals great..
Great Video. Good to have a friend to help you out. So has this fix to the hard top, also fixed the gap which a mouse had found to enter the cab. That was an LOL moment. Keep up the great trips & videos. Awesome recipes to. Cheers Tony from New Zealand
Hope that works out for ya. I think I would have also added another sticky weather strip to the top of the bed between the cap and bed and lowered the cap on top of the weather strip. Keep up the great content ✌🏼
Got my topper on a few days ago, same as yours.. I like it accept there's a decent size gap in the corners of the rear window to the top of the tailgate, holes are definitely big enough for bugs to get in possibly mice too idk..
I have the same truck does the same thing but notice more water leaks when I'm driving. I'll be doing the same before the rain comes. Good luck. Thanks for the video
You can take a ratchet strap and hook it just inside the tailgate to the closed tie down hook and hook it over to the passenger side tie down hook and then loosen the back topper clamps and then tighten the tie down straps and adjust the gap then tighten the topper clamp's as you should have a better gap now 👍
Hi quady I have a leer topper also only it’s a high topper and I also have the gaps on my window it looks like they should have squeezed the topper in a little bit to close the gap luckily it has not been a issue yet it’s good for your friends Mike and the little helper to get you fixed up
It seems they never get them on square. I had to adjust it myself to get it right. The rear of the topper by the tailgate is usually not tight enough from side to side and needs to be pulled in before bolting it down. You can judge how well it's on by the gap around the rear window frame.
Leer toppers are very hit and miss. I have two trucks both with toppers, one has a Leer and it is absolutely perfect in every way. The other truck had two tries at Leer before I got my money back and did an ARE cap. So far it's been ok... got it with no side windows so it's just smooth fiberglass that follows the trucks body lines. To be honest it looks amazing and has two less things to potentially leak.
Have a small leak near the cab on the passenger side. Was thinking of just running a bead of silicon under the edge of the topper on the top of the bed.
Omg the cicadas are horrendous. I was trying to hear you lol. On that note. Love your videos. New to your channel. Look forward to more. Happy camping to you🏕
Their baaaad this year, I had one in my house I couldn't find for the life of me, when I got close I think it stopped buzzing.. I haven't heard it today, maybe the cats got it..
Question. When you disconnected the cap from the truck bed if you wanted to slide the cap back a bit is there wiring connected that would prohibit you from moving the cap back? I am going to replace the weather stripping under my truck cap but I also need to change the gasket on the third brake light on top of the truck cab. Your video was very helpful too.
There was wiring at the rear that goes up to the third brake light, there was enough slack in mine to move it around. If I remember correctly there is a disconnect on the wire there also.
If I may ask, what leer model topper is this? XR, etc. Thanks for all the quality content. Been watching for a long time now. My leer topper should be here next week, so I appreciate your time young man.
Hahaha I know your buddy Greg! Lol. Used to build combines with him that’s funny. Tell him Joel says hello. I recognized his face but then when he laughed that was it haha
Mine leaked at the gate and window. If I wasn't parked so the front was higher then the rear water would run along the bed rail or inside on the canopy rail. I rigged it to stop with some rubber gaskets. Also stopped the cold air blowing in and out through those holes where the gate and window meet, I sealed the whole gate to stop dust from blowing in also. looks like you need to pull the fender guards and sand that rust off. B
Hope it works. Mine leaks too and dealer said, yeah, they will do that. My buddy and I tried goop, and it still leaked, just in a different spot. Oh well.
I wouldn't think water could jump up onto the fiberglass like that. If you look at 3:27 you can see it's been wet so much theirs black mold in the rough fiber's of the fiberglass. As soon as I seen this I figured your front window seal must be leaking.
Nice!!! Mine leaks like a sieve too... Glad to see a good solution! lol! It is so funny how heavy these things are... It took me, two ramps, and a freaking huge amount of force to BARELY get my camper top on my 1990 GMC Sierra 1500 (which btw has 350K miles when the average distance from the earth to the moon is 240K miles, lol...). Facebook marketplace is probably your best bet
All my buddy did was put some weather stripping tape down on the truck box that sealed it nice and tight
That's not a bad idea!
use butyl rubber tape between body and topper
I was told that garage door bottom seal works.
damn those birds/bugs are loud as hell
Hello my friend so nice video sharing thanks for you👌👌👌😍😍
I worked for the company that built these camper shells, all I can tell you is inspect your shell on a regular basis.
Ok, Now you need to go Camp in another T-Storm like a couple weeks ago to test it! Lol
That was intense
If only I could make it rain 😂
go to a RV /camper store and they might have the gasket for your camper shell
The little guy is sure good.
Clear silicon caulk on the outside dude!
Not a bad idea
@@CrazyQuady it worked on my truck camper.
Did this work?
Maybe next time put another seal on the bed rails so their seal sits on top. Double seal bolted down tight?
Thats a great idea!
Camping in the rain teaches you that water finds many ways to annoy you and just when you think you're water proof, nope.
Use 3m5200 , but just never plan on taking it off again 👍💯
🤣
And you should get clamps instead of bolts that way u dont messed up the bed
It is clamped
If I was you I would use foam can insulation to get the gaps and whatever came out just cut it off when its dry
What the heck is RTV????
Gasket maker you can get it from your local part house
