    I absolutely hate the fact that EVERYTHING nowadays has to be a subscription service and it makes me way less likely to purchase a device like this. Do they seriously want to tell me that 400 dollars per ring is not enough to finance their app? Ridiculous. If there's one thing people don't need in their lives right now, it's more subscriptions. Facts.

    • @RubiixCat
      @RubiixCat Рік тому +6

      Yeah. Total cost of the ring over its lifetime is probably about $436.77 - $508.65. I don't know if the gen 3 is worth $137.77 - $209.65 more than the gen 2, but to me that seems pretty damn steep - especially knowing it'll only realistically last you 2 (maybe 3, if you're lucky) years.
      It might be worth it for some though. It does seem to be the most accurate + least intrusive sleep tracker on the market right now.

      I've worked in tech, and we sold a product without subscription for most my time there. And trust mr the stress that results from it is pretty intense. When you think about it you're not buying a static product like you use, these things keep evolving, being updated and even maintaining an app is a ton of work. Selling a product without subscription rarely covers those costs.

      If you have to update the app for what ever reason, was the program ready for release? Bugs will be found after release, but 90% of bugs should be discovered before release. If your updating constantly, just add those updates to the next physical release.

    What everyone seems to leave out is….yes, they send you a box of different size rings to get the right size BUT they charge you for shipping and handling which is about $25 (that is for Texas) and I don’t find that free.

    Hey Noah, we appreciate your feedback! We are happy to hear that you don't wear your Oura ring while lifting weights as that will inevitably cause damage or create scratches on the outer layer. Remember, you can always add your weight lifting workout's manually! P.S. we love your Marvel themed background and Stark shirt!

    I’m sure also, you can start and stop the subscription as needed. Say for example, once you are familiar with the approx insig HR s associated with the scores, you can stop the subscription for a while if you are doing well with maintaining good scores. Then if you need to recalibrate, turn the subscription back on for the details to make improvements. Just a thought.

    I had gotten a fitbit during covid to keep track of me working out but after the pandemic I went back to wearing watches and thought about getting the oura ring but I can't justify a $400 purchase with a $6 a month subscription. If they still offer oura 2 maybe or if they brought down the price of the ring.

    Total bait and switch. My wife bought one and it was great. She buys me the new one (Gen 3) for $350, 6 months later they shut off access to all the data and want $6/month for the rest of my life to get access to it. That’s crazy! Generation 1 & 2 didn’t do that. Anyone who bought those first two models don’t have to pay anything. We asked them for our money back, this is absurd.

    Really useful review, thanks. My question - if you're getting up / going to bed at slightly different times each day, can you tell it when you're going to bed or edit the data using the app, or is the idea it can figure all that out by itself? Or to put it another way, given you've own it as long as you have, how often has it logged your sleep / activities incorrectly?

    I can understand the reason for subscription for smart watches because of their capability and usage. But for something that has less capability and features that are not fully integrated yet such as Workout Heart Rate which they claim will be end of 2022. The subscription is a no for me. Fantastic review. Just a comment on the subscription, and I'm still ambivalent about it... this ongoing income helps fuel continuing development and updates. Much like a lot of MMO games that have either monthly subs, "cash shops," etc... ongoing software development, research, and updates cannot be sustained by initial purchase prices alone. I know Circular doesn't plan to have a sub, but I suspect that sooner or later software updates, bug fixes, and innovations will become fewer and farther in between with them. Just food for thought.

    • @ashleylopez4345

      They're terrible at running a business. Bait-and-switch (they didn't have a subscription before), then they offer me a free membership, then require payment info and promise not to charge me, then they charge me. The ring does not do what it says it does, at least not accurately. Great idea and I wore it for a few years, but honestly after a few months you'll get all you need out of the product to make lifestyle changes (bed time, dinner time, what drinking does to your sleep). Better yet, save your money and just do a tiny bit of research on improving sleep quality and setting your circadian rhythms. You don't need the ring. It's free to do the research.

    • @ChadSextoid1
      @ChadSextoid1 Рік тому

      Does everything need constant updates permanently though? This is what I hate about digital tech. Everything constantly "gets better" but there's always a downside. Like moving to a subscription based model, for example. It'd be awesome if a product could be honed to a near perfect state and then just remain relatively unchanged for long periods of time. Companies are just trying to constantly innovate to stay ahead of the curve and this isn't always a good thing for consumers. Rant over.

      @@NoahCBanks It might seem funny, but it's actually not that funny. These smart watches and rings are part of an agenda to get people to want and accept chips under their skin in the end which probably will become mandatory. It's the mark of the beast from Revelation. Same with medical trackers with transmitters, also part of the same plan. Same with Musk's Neuralink. It's weird people are not more critical to have this stuff on, and eventually in their bodies.

    As annoying as subscriptions are, to be fair $6 a month isn't really much at all. I just think that the ring is a little on the pricey side for the average person. They could've reduced the price of the ring with subscription of $6 a month, or just not bothered at all with the subscription.

    wear gloves in the gym so you wont scratch the ring, and if you ever need to build calluses on your hand (i know some people like to have them or whatevs) they can be built easily and plus even when you wear gloves you get a bit of calluses

    I wrote a rage comment at first but realised that that is pointless. So to reframe myself: i want to share my vision on the subscription and price of the oura ring, just to offer a different perspective. :)
    When you see the price of the oura ring (varieying from €314 till €550, depending on style, color and VAT+shipping) you might be feeling down, because yes this is a lot of money. However, the technology used here is extremely valuable and the data is extremely valuabel for your life. Nothing is worth more than your health and the fruits that a healthy life gives you. When you put it in perspective, its really not that expensive. Gaming consoles and PC's (which drain life energy and make you unhealthy) are equally expensive or even more expensive. Going out to dinner multiple times is equally or more expensive, a pointless holiday is way more expensive. There are many things that are more expensive and they dont offer you anything healthy or good at all, yet most people spend their money on it. In my opinion it is unbelieveable that we can have this technology available for such a low price honestly. There is even normal jewerly which costs 1000+ euros or dollars. People dont think anytbing weird of that tho..
    Then for the subscription, come on honestly? Just quit netflix, disney, prime or any other streaming service that most people use or spend 6 dollars less per month. It really isnt that much in my opinion. And if 6 dollars is too much for your financial life to cover, then maybe an health investment like an oura ring is not something you should consider at this point in your life.
    I believe the pricing is really fair and i am grateful that we get to have this research grade stuff at our disposal.
    Great video!
