"The last time you said you broke up with your girlfriend you were making out with her two days later" The reason for that is that in the same exact scene (it was episode 5 I think?) where Even tells Isak, all happy, that he broke up with his girlfriend and wants to introduce him to his parents, Isak goes and says that he doesn't want/need mentally hill people around him. He was talking about his mom of course and he couldn't know about Even disorder, but from Even point of view that hurt and it's the reason why he tried to put some distance between him and Isak after, not because he couldn't make up his mind about who he wanted, but because he thought Isak wouldn't have wanted him anymore if he knew the truth. Also the last scene always kills me, Isak's face as he slowly realises there's something wrong at the hotel and then the last shot after he talked with Sonja uuugh. (I'm not gonna go into the details about Even feelings and how those relate to his ilness because I think the next episode does a great job with it already)
Even wasn't happy in that scene that he tell Isak. Thats why he was missing from school for 2 days or so. He talked to sonja and that made him more depressed after the high in the pool and stuff. Thats why the words of Isak about his mom being crazy hit Even really hard. After that I think he went back to Sonja and she talked it like it was really only him and his episodes. But I think Even realized there is so much more thats why the drawings begin.
thank god for Marketa, for mentioning that conversation between Isak and Even in the locker room about mental illness. You can literally tell from Even's face right after Isak said he didn't want mentally ill people in his life and how he's so interested in whether Isak and his mom are still in contact. breaks my heart everytime.

Isak's arc is probably my favourite part of Skam. He starts off confused about his sexuality and trying to be someone he's not, and then when he admits that he likes guys he still has a narrow minded way of looking at gay people. he puts them in a box, thinking he's not really gay because he isn't super feminine and outgoing. even though he has distanced himself from his mother and her religion, his upbringing still affects his views on homosexuality. and then when he comes out to his friends, it's not a big deal like he thought it would be. it was never about whether his friends or his parents would accept his sexuality, it's about Isak accepting himself and coming to terms with who he is. and of course the subplots help his character development as well. the same mindset that made him put gay people in a box also made him think of mentally ill people as "crazy" and religious people as "brainwashed", but through his discussions with Sana and his relationship with Even he gains a much more nuanced perspective on the world, which makes him able to reconcile with his mother. this whole season is just brilliantly written
I REALLY appreciate you guys pointing out that Evan’s behavior is a bit strange in this episode prior to the reveal-a lot of reactors are too caught up in the ship and romance Isak is finally getting and how “goals” they are, without noticing the weird red flags happening. Again, I totally ship Evak and Evan’s behavior is understood when we finally get told that he’s manic-but prior to that, we (and isak) have no idea what’s going on. Great reaction!
Yeah there's no indication that Even is closeted -- for all we know, he could have been out and proud for years. We've never seen him lie about his sexual orientation or pretend to be something other than he is, so we can't really make that assumption.
Yeah, in earlier episodes, he has a pan flag on his jacket or bag (I can't remember). He was most likely out before Isak. But given that he's been with Sonja since they were 15, it's possible that Isak is the first guy he's been with. Unless they had other breaks in their relationship or if he's cheated before (or started really young). Personally, I don't think past cheating really makes sense for Even. He is a huge romantic and I think he only cheated on Sonja now because he felt suffocated with how she treated him and his mental illness. (Still not ok to cheat, but what're you gonna do). I don't think any of this is really about sexuality for Even.
Isak's words were that basically he decided his life was better off without mentally ill people in previous episode which probs led Even not to come out abt him being bipolar.
The Spotify listenings of that Gabrielle song (in the beginning) increased with 3000% the weeks following this episode. Here in Sweden, when you logged onto Spotify the days after the episode was released, the starting page was a picture of Isak and Even and it said "We're shipping Evak too".
i know it'd probably be for naught now but it'd be really fun if you guys did an episode where you went back and looked at/read all the instagram and text posts because they always gave such a fun insight into the characters personalities and just made everything feel even more /real/

Henrik Holm, Even, was the only cast member to know of the bipolar disorder. Tarjei Sandvik Moe, Isak, was the first actor to figure it out about Even. Tarjei and his character Isak were both 17 here, while Henrik was 20 and his character Even was 19. The acting by both and the direction by Julie Andem were incredible.

You're considered an adult in Norway once you're 18. There are very few restrictions that go beyond that (20 for hard liquor, car rentals can go up to 25 depending on the company - I think for insurance purposes with younger drivers being considered less reliable). So there are no issues booking a hotel room at 18.
No seriously, nobody noticed the reason why Evan ghosted Isak was because Isak said he didnt need anymore mentally ill/ crazy people in his life or want them around him. So when he said that Evan being a bipolar man ghosted him because he probably felt really hurt like wow that's what he thinks of me and other people like me realistically both of them didn't go about it the right way but also Isaac didn't know that Evan was bipolar it's kind of messed up how he found out from Sonja.

I love hearing your present thoughts, but so much of the cynical energy was pissing me off lmao just because of how you didn't know what was wrong with Even but that's purposeful. Marketa noticing the mood swings and mania is so essential though. I know someone who has borderline personality disorder and she would have manic episodes that were so reflective of Even's, so I'm glad you noticed smth was very off
my aunt was manic for 2 months, she did a lot of stuff and bought a dog when it stopped she immediately tried to sell the dog. she isn't even bipolar( at least not diagnosed) manic episodes are scarier than depression tbh

For me I find that when my friend has depressive episodes, they scare me much more than her manic episodes, as there's a much greater risk of her hurting herself.
I know the truth about Even but I love how protective the guys were of Isak before they knew. Let's be real, Even was hella suspicious before we knew the reasons for the weird stuff. And they guys were so protective of him saying that he was playing Isak and all that it was so cute!

You guys was so suspicious of Even! ^^ It made you miss some beautiful moments, but I appreciated it because it highlighted how I almonst never saw any warning signs at all and disregarded those I did see - I was too dazzled by him! True, he wasn't a player at all, but if the circumstances had been different, he could have been, so that was interesting to see.
Isak mom keeps sending him Bible versus and it complicates everything. Isak is trying to focus on school and friends while having a crush but then his mom is making things weird I will never not think Henrik speaking englishbwith his deep accent isn't hot because its very and he is beautiful. Henrik (Evan) and Tarjei (Isak) did such an amazing job with this series and I'm glad they won an award
man I hope the second guy from the left has grown and evolved these 3-4 years since this was recorded. He was laughing so hard at the 'who's the man and who's the women comment', immature sexual comments, immature relationship comments, immature "guy things" comments, immature ignorant and just over all immature uncomfortable comments and laughs at inappropriate times etc etc. It's just never ending. I watched this years ago and remember how uncomfortable he made me and well same now when re-watching even tho I know to expect it. Everyone else and even the kids in the series are so far ahead of him when it comes to maturity.

For me I find that when my friend has depressive episodes, they scare me much more than her manic episodes, as there's a much greater risk of her hurting herself.
I know the truth about Even but I love how protective the guys were of Isak before they knew. Let's be real, Even was hella suspicious before we knew the reasons for the weird stuff. And they guys were so protective of him saying that he was playing Isak and all that it was so cute!

You guys was so suspicious of Even! ^^ It made you miss some beautiful moments, but I appreciated it because it highlighted how I almonst never saw any warning signs at all and disregarded those I did see - I was too dazzled by him! True, he wasn't a player at all, but if the circumstances had been different, he could have been, so that was interesting to see.

I watched this years ago and remember how uncomfortable he made me and well same now when re-watching even tho I know to expect it.
