Just used this to convince my girlfriend that Peter Griffin is a real man who plays a fictionalised version of himself on the animated comedy show Family Guy
As a black person who grew up in a time where racism and racist jokes were the norm, I can't really express how nice it feels to see a white person just say racism is bad earnestly no extra frills or empty pandering. "we don't do that, and if you do, we don't mess with you", is so cathartic for me to hear.
It's important that this was his debut because of how fucking incredibly racist Family Guy can be--instantly separating himself from the source material is a brilliant move

Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism all thrown in with no other comedic effect than simply trying to be edgy with a sort of "comedy is about making fun of everyone :smile:" attitude but at the same time are sending the signals that these are acceptable opinions to hold about other people. And it's just the the most talentless comedy to boot. Even Babylon Bee is unintentionally funny if you reimagine some of their headlines as shitposts.

Normally I’d say that just saying “racism is bad” isn’t really super helpful or important, in the larger scope of activism. But the context is actually really important. Family Guy is a super irreverent show with LOTS of racist bits. So to have this schtick where you do an incredibly accurate Peter Griffin impersonation and draw in the fan base of the show, specifically to first and foremost call out behavior that they themselves might be participating in-it’s actually kind of genius. I’m not gonna sit here and say this guy singlehandedly ended racism (because obviously not, and it wouldn’t be my place to say so anyway). But that video, despite being under two minutes long, is honestly, genuinely good activism. Great use of his platform, well executed video, great message. It’s impressive.
I think saying racism is bad *is* actually helpful, simple as it may be. It may not pull many people over, but it's also at the very core of our beliefs and being reminded of that can have a positive interpersonal impact. But that's just my personal opinion, and I get what you mean.
Saying that racism (and any other form of bigotry) is bad is extremely important. I don’t want to make any assumptions about you, but the idea that that sort of validation isn’t helpful or important makes you seem like you either (A) have never experienced being the target of widespread bigotry, or (B) are the target of widespread bigotry but have not received the support you deserve

I think I've seen a very few clips of this guy's stuff, but can't bring myself to watch it just because of the actual show. Family Guy seemed cool until they started portraying transgender people the way they do/did. Then it felt like they started playing up racial and sexist stereotypes for the sake of being edgy. At least RL Peter doesn't seem like Seth MacFarlane.
I checked out his channel because of this and while most of his videos are charming and funny, sadly he does buy into the smear campaign against Amber Heard and made a video spreading all that misinformation.

It's funny that for whatever reason I was starstruck when I saw this guy at Comic Con. I saw all these people I really like like Doc Hammer, Stan Lee, Lloyd Kauffman, Mick Foley, Sgt Slaughter and a bunch others but I saw him and was like "It's the Peter Griffin Guyyyy".
