Brilliant video and probably better than you realise. I've been a Walker for decades. I'm an ex Royal Marines Commando. I've also done Kinder Scout a few times too. The thing that annoys me with beginners, and some who class themselves as advanced walkers, is that they lose respect for the environment. When you go for a hike in remote places, you should be prepared to spend the night. You dont know when an accident will happen. You should always carry a first aid kit and know how to use it, comms, and decent quality kit against the weather. This is why you have a lot of kit and 'mess'. Great video. Lovely scenery.
Thanks Jazz :) I think it's something that people learn along the way. I used to just take a small daypack when I went out hiking, but know I understand the environment and landscape better and never go out without some essential items - waterproofs, warm clothing, map and compass, phone, small first aid kit, food and water!
I've been doing this walk for the last 35 years, use to climb on top of Noe stool everytime i went past, not up to it now, one of my favourite walks as well, so nice to see the younger generation are enjoying this beautiful walk.❤
Just wonderful Athena, your Mama is soooo proud of you. Please take me, Oslo and Ola on the next hike (and some of your yummy soup too!). Couldn't love you more xxx
Hi, just how did you raise the perfect daughter?! :) - Her website is just as I would have done..had I found the energy - I have done a lot of the same walks...even her taste in music reaches out to the country soul :) - You are indeed blessed :)
Beautiful video! Some of my favourite hikes have been in similar conditions. I love the white sheet of mist that suddenly descends, obliterating everything in front of you. Kinda scary but atmospheric. Gives it a lord of the rings vibe..
I re-watched this video a few days ago as inspiration for my first ever walk up Kinder Scout yesterday. Our weather was pretty much the same as you and Harvey experienced, heavy mist and plenty of rain! It didn't stop me from really enjoying the hike or seeing the amazing rock formations and boulders at the top. 😁
I've just gone through and binge watched all of your videos - absolute dreams and I love your filming style. I could watch you both all day! Infectious smile and energy. I did a trip through the Alps with my pooch last year but didn't get half as much hiking done as I'd have liked. Trying to keep topped up in the UK until I can afford to do another escape. Haven't touched the Peak or Lake district yet but I've now planned a January trip - inspired by your videos! Thank you and please please keep doing what you're doing. Hope to see you out on the trail one day! Jasmine
I well recall many years ago driving 'opp from London to Hatfield and camping at the foot of Kinder to an overnight teriffic thunderstorm. Next day on Kinder in the mist all the peat gullies were full of water making a straight line compass bearing impossible. For sure there are few places like it but we made it safely to that lovely pub on the Snake Pass for an evening meal! Happy days!
My boyfriend and I walked from Lincoln to Edale in 2017 to do the Pennine Way section into the Yorkshire Dales. This video brings back some really beautiful memories of the beginning, going up Jacobs Ladder as the sun started to peek through the fog. Thanks for sharing
I really like your videos. They make me miss the UK. Especially Scotland. Sometimes it looks so similar to the highlands. Your soundtracks are so good they made me cry. And you are such a lovely person. Thank you a lot !
Nice seeing this. I left New Mills, the other side of Kinder Scout 15 years ago to live in Uruguay South America. My last view of the area was kinder scout as I took the taxi to the airport. Thanks for sharing.
@@garybrown4952 It's nice, sunny, peaceful, I live right by the Atlantic Ocean facing the south pole. I still miss foggy cold icy windy rainy snowy dull days.
Hello Athena really enjoy your video,s What a difference a day makes in the peaks, walked from Hayfield over the top and downto Edale yesterday and the weather was great. All very very best for the coming year And wish you and Harvey ever happiness in your life together
I went up from Hayfield on Friday in glorious sunshine via William clough...ended up sitting in a really cosy bar in New Mills...felt brilliant. I'd almost forgotten that feeling. One thing is for certain, I'm going to be walking all summer!!
I walked Kinder with Mr Mason in 1965, we went by steam train from Marple station to Edale station and walked by the downfall and back to Marple about 40 miles, I am now 70 and and live in Norway, I knew kinder like the Back of my hand back then, kudos on reviving a fine memory :)
your videos are always so soothing and lovely to watch - and always inspiring me to get outside more, because i often seem to forget how much i love it. thank you for making them!
Ah I cannot WAIT for summer! My boyfriend and I absolutely love visiting Edale and it's going to be amazing to be able to wander (and hike) round it when the weather gets a little bit better for us as we are novices!
I thoroughly enjoy hiking in the clouds also! We have so many trees that in winter when the leaves are down is the only time we have a lot of views. I was just thinking how nobody must use your parks since you never show anybody else when you said there were people out burning off the holiday calories. Thanks for the video. Another beautiful, relaxing 15 minutes!
Hello Athena & Harvey. As with all your video's athena there well documented.. the music also is so fitting to content your showing. All the best in 2020 and thank you for sharing your hikes.

Love this video. I was born in Charlesworth and lived in Glossop for a few years. My grandparents had the Royal Hotel in Hayfield, so many a memory of this part of the world. I live in Poland now and miss this little piece of home.

Lovely weather for a hike, nice to see others also prefer it when quieter. I got caught into that soundtrack for a bit and then it abruptly stopped. I would recommend fading the songs out as it has less shock when a smoother transition between scenes.
A very good looking route and one I'll keep in mind for my next visit to the Peak District. Thanks for sharing. Good to also hear some thoughts from Harvey. All the best for 2020.
Hi guys,Happy new year to you both! I’ve just found your channel and it’s wonderful I will be watching all the videos you have uploaded previously. great walk up kinder scout ,love the changing weather thanks for sharing x
I loved your video Athena. I've been walking on Kinder for 50 years now, it's one of my favourite places - I love the peat groughs. My usual route is up Grindsbrook, I'm a sucker for a nice bit of water. I'll give your route a try over the next few months. I find It's always easier going up Grindsbrook than coming down it, Ollerbrook Clough looks fairly easy coming down. Thanks for the video, I'll be looking at the others. Nice music too.
Hi Athena, Just found your vlog for the first time which I really enjoyed. It was Interesting, Informative, with the easy watching and relaxing style you have. With a lovely smile as well. What more could we want. I'm into Photography so will find these very interesting and useful for a guide as to routes for the spring etc. The Peak District is on my list with Kinder Scout, and a finish at the Rambler's Inn as a bonus-prize for finishing 10 miles, and hopefully a couple of photos as well. 4 of us were running up on kinder the same morning. We were also going clockwise but don't think we passed you. Beautiful video, despite the lack of views it was still great to be up there! New sub :)
Great video, I love your choice of music. When I saw the contour lines so close together on your map, I worried you might fall off a steep cliff in the mist. Glad you made it safely. I did smile at one point though with a headless Harvey stumbling along in your wake, giving his comments. It might do more for the poor man's dignity if you pause for a moment to let him address his remarks to the camera before resuming the walk. 😂 Lovely scenery though, those Tors are quite impressive. As you were walking along the paths I couldn't help but be impressed by the effort that must have been made to lay those stone slabs. Congratulations to those that did the work, you made a wonderful job of it. I look forward to more of your wonderful videos in the New Year. Health, happiness and prosperity to both of you. God bless. Steven.
Lovely video! Would love for you to make a video on the kit you have and recommendations, I’m sure it would be of use to many others too!! Happy new year 😊
i wonder if any of you can help, there was a place we visited on a school trip back in the 80's that ive always wanted to revisit but could never work out where it was exactly, first part of the day was in buxton, looking at some kilns, then a short coach ride to a working farm museum that was the start of a walk, right behind this farm it went straight up in to the hills, then there were wooden walkways around waterfalls set in pretty deep chasms then it finished going down in to a little village. didnt appreciate it back then, our only school trip of the year and we go look at kilns instead of going to alton towers! would really love to go back and see it with adult eyes.
well worth the extra bit to kinder downfall, but navigating the plateau in those conditions is tricky if you are not used to upland moors in limited visibility. Nice video, I love walks like this, sure views are nice, but the quiet solitude of the world ending in mist 20m in every direction is amazing, with rock formations looming into visibility and fading away behind you.

Hi Athena, after watching your last video on your top 5 walks in the UK l commented that l had walked this route the other way a few years ago with my sister. The weather was the same on the day we did it. A very heavy downpour just before we descended Jacobs Ladder seen us finding shelter till it passed over. As l said before the weather didn’t dampen our spirits or take anything away from the raw beauty of this magical place and like you both we ended the day with a drink in the pub sitting by the roaring fire till it was time to head home. As always Athena a great video, looking forward to seeing more adventures in the New Year. All the best to you both and a happy , prosperous and safe New Year 👍
it is such a beautiful and relaxing video with good BGM and editing. Your video are different to others camping video which full of sense of wild and raw. (By the way, you are beautiful and have a lovely voice too) Please keep up the good work! Well done!
ive only just got in the house from a wild camp at wool packs ,weather was much better Saturday/sunday morning ,headed in from hayfield and up William Clough along sandy hay to kinder downfall and then along pennine way to woolpack ,then back down via oaken Clough and broad Clough
Athena Mellor we dropped on with the weather really ,wasn’t too windy so it was calm over by the wool packs ,cloud came in at night ,but by the time we left in the morning it had cleared up and was just hanging in the valley
I love Kinder Scout but we always walk up from Hayfield, once you get to the site of the mass trespass the route becomes less well defined but still easy to follow as you are just going up and up.
really nice video. i do most of my backpacking in the White Mtns. of NH USA. For me these conditions make what are essentially just big hills into a much more alpine environment.
I walked up there yesterday....missed you by 24 hours 😂 This is a lovely video, thank you 🙏 I finished after dark and came down the stream valley back down to where I parked.

It’s a great route... enjoy!
All the best to you both and a happy , prosperous and safe New Year 👍
Sounds like a similar day to us then! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words :)
Great video yet again- happy new year Athena 😊 look forward to many more in 2020
Fantastic video! And really great editing. I was up there a few days before christmas.
The scene with the birds :o . Great video!
it is such a beautiful and relaxing video with good BGM and editing. Your video are different to others camping video which full of sense of wild and raw. (By the way, you are beautiful and have a lovely voice too) Please keep up the good work! Well done!
Amazing video...thank you for posting
Wow amazing stuff, great scenery! You have a new subscriber. I will definitely be taking videography tips from this for my own hiking videos!
Looks amazing! 👌
ive only just got in the house from a wild camp at wool packs ,weather was much better Saturday/sunday morning ,headed in from hayfield and up William Clough along sandy hay to kinder downfall and then along pennine way to woolpack ,then back down via oaken Clough and broad Clough
Sounds amazing! Jealous you got the good weather. Hope you had a great time!
I walked up there yesterday....missed you by 24 hours 😂
This is a lovely video, thank you 🙏
I finished after dark and came down the stream valley back down to where I parked.
I've been up there and in Castleton on the 28 too! Haha
Did this Sunday 27,6,21 in the morning a great walk out
