I do like the honestly and simplicity of this...no huge macho feats of daring, just a lovely walk in the hills. So many people wouldn't have admitted to becoming disorientated on the top, but it's SO easy to do, even with a map and compass when it's a near white-out. Good for you. Beautifully shot and a lovely soundtrack too...
Hello Athena, Harvey And Olso. Once again a fantastic, well documented video. To my knowledge.. you are the only vlogger who takes the time to show where abouts your going on a map, this is one of the many reasons why i enjoy your channel. All the best and thank you for sharing
Such an entertaining video. I live here in the lakes. My mountain videos are virtual, they are just my memories. I'm grateful that people like you make these great films to share with everyone. thanks !
Just did Scarfell Pike myself today. Was awesome. Started off with rain and low cloud. Been raining all nite. Cascading water falls everywhere. Got to summit about 2pm sky cleared could see in ALL directions. Its like your videos and others that has given me inspiration to follow.my true path.. thank you 😊
Great video! We did Scafell pike last Sunday with our daughters. We did it for charity & were so proud of our girls for working so hard to get up to the summit. Love your passion for the outdoors, we are the same & try to inspire others. Love The Shackleton’s
Did scafell pike in 1975 when I was 19 out of Brathay hall outward bound centre! Remember the scree then, pretty daunting for a townie as was then. I remember we had an RAF officer with us looking at routes for recruits! Thanks again Athema makes me feel 19 again ;0)
I am so envious! Here in the southeast US it is 95 farenheit (34 celcius) and all I want to do is stay inside where it is cool. I miss walking so much here in the summertime but with the heat and the bugs it just isn't enjoyable. I manage a walk in the neighborhood each evening when the sun and the temperature aren't quite as brutal but it just isn't the same. Your hike was my favorite kind - cool and somewhat damp. People here think I'm crazy for enjoying rainy hikes but like you said it keeps the bugs and the people away! Following your hillwalk was like a cool breeze - thank you for the vicarious English getaway and brief escape from the Memphis heat!
I'm still making the baked porridge recipe you shared a while ago. Like to make a batch and eat it cold for breakfasts when I'm out doing bushcraft although not so much lately due to broken ribs. Thanks for continuing to post on UA-cam. It's helped keep my spirits up while I've been stuck on light duties these past few weeks.
Just discovered your videos - really inspiring stuff and some lovely music too. I know you and your partner weren’t “in danger” up there but this video does highlight a very serious point. Even for the experienced, bad visibility can be very disorienting and it’s an essential skill to be able to take a bearing and navigate using an old school map and compass. A lot of people get lost by relying on phones or just blindly following paths without thinking. Keep up the great work, I’ll be buying a copy of your book!
Love your videos Athena. I think you capture the experience of walking in the UK so well (rain, no view at the summit yet beautiful luscious landscapes). Thanks for making them, makes me want to go out and walk!
Fantastic video again Athena love it round there, I did the Stranza Stones trail at the weekend, just putting my video together now. Thanks again for all your support and help... just by watching you.
Watched this on a big screen. Have to say this is my fave vid to date; quality production, great story, wonderful location. Just booked a week in the lakes, maybe scafell is on the list!
I miss this so much. Make the most of it while you can! Osteoarthritus means I'm limited to about 5 miles now before pain levels make it difficult to continue.
I've been visiting your videos for a while now but not subscribed for some reason so I'd just have. Your videos are so beautifully shot and the music you choose to accompany them are really chilled.
What a lovely walk, I did an almost similar route a couple of weeks ago. The start was the exact same as your route. How clear was that water at that bridge... Beautiful. The difference was I scrambled up Pen and then up to Scafell Pike then went up Sca Fell via Lords Rake. Eskdale is such a lovely place, I'm thinking of heading back out in November for a wild camp at Sampson's Stones and exploring more of the area. Beautiful video by the way, really enjoyed watching it ❤️ Jodie.
Totally agree about it being so disorientating walking in cloud....thanks for the vid, last time I was on Scafell Pike was around 3:45am as part of the three peaks walk and it’s an amazing summit when the views are there👍
What a lovely thing to wake up to this morning! Missed you last week. I’ve watched all and rewatched my favourites of yours over the past month, so lovely to have another beautiful video to enjoy ❤️ sending love 🙏🏼
Walked Scafell last September, we had a lovely clear day fortunately. As you say it's bloody tricky the nearer the summit you get due to the loose rocks! Actually went up Helvellyn the day after, not sure how but got photo's to prove it 🤣🤣. Great video!
When the preparation was going on that evening I was exited and I wasn't even there, 😁 great video enjoyable music, awesome to see you and Harvey have such the same mindset with hiking walking etc , Oslo fantastic looking dog, it all adds up to great times,, truly blessed ye are thanks for sharing folks 😎
Brilliant. Another very well produced video, well worth waiting for. Again great photography and music. It’s a shame they have to finish. You will have to make a feature length. Keep em coming they’re great.
Great vid guys shame about mist/fog did some stuff around there when I cycled coast to coast in the 90s remember blacksail hut pushing bike up the pass happy days keep exploring 👍
Another beautiful video Athena. Just what I need before I head out this morning for a walk around Derwent and Back Tor. I have been to the top of Scafell twice. The first time, the conditions were like this - you couln't see 20 yards in front of you. Fortunately, we had amazing views on the second ascent. Have a lovely weekend.
25 years ago, I did the same. Except didn’t realise until I dropped 1,000 feet and came out of the cloud to see a lake in front of me. There’s no lake in Eskdale! It was a long walk round past Burnmoor Tarn back to Eskdale YH.
Lovely video! Thank you for taking the time to make such beautiful videos!! Truly makes me feel like I’m there with you! You are truly inspiring me! Thank you again, have a great weekend and week ahead! 🙏🏽 😊
Miss the Lake District...when I was an Erasmus exchange student at University of Lancaster for four months, used to,go hiking every weekend...loved it so much...this brings back such nice memories...wish I could live in a nice cottage in the Lake District
Ahhhhh Saturday morning tea and your video. Relaxing start of the day. Foggy mountain top view still accomplishing feel. Just love your pup what a great dog!! Be well and Trail on!!
I remember doing Scafell from Eskdale via the Great Moss & Foxes Tarn - wild country. Delayed commenting on your splendid video as just got back from the Lakes myself - did Haystacks & Kirk Fell from Honister. Lovely to see you 3 back in the hills xx
Awh Harvey's excitement about the sundew! It takes me and partner forever to get anywhere when we go out walking, he's always foraging in a hedge or crouching down to look at stuff! 🤣 thanks for another Saturday morning delight
Athena, Your videos are always so relaxed and chilled, which makes me do the same...if only i could get paid for watching your videos all week instead of working !!
Fantastic piece of filming, you guys really present it in a very relative way which is something a lot of people don't do so keep that going. Love both your instagrams too, lovely feeds. Look forward to more hikes from you guys and Oslo.
Great video Athena! Ive been up there twice in the last month, fortunately in much better weather aha. Its weird watching you walking in my footsteps and eating at the same spot I did!! Great moss is one of the most beautiful places I know and will go back again and again. I can recommend Scafell (NOT the pike) via Fox gully and also the Esk Pike, Bowfell traverse both from Great Moss. Love your channel, keep up the excellent content.
I may be doing Scafell myself next weekend but haven't chosen my route as yet, this has certainly helped me narrow it down so thank you. Right, off to Win Hill now 👍
Love your production for this walk and admire that you navigate the traditional way, we do take a map but also use the GPS on the OS app. Last Thursday we did Scafell via Lord’s Rake, Scafell Pike & Great End returning via Sty Head, exhilarating scenery and views. On Friday we hiked up the other end of the massif to Slight Side from Wha House Farm returning via the track down off Long Green (very steep) into the magnificent Eskdale valley, quite a few wild swimmers out. There is a pretty foot bridge by Taw House should you need to cross upstream from the car park. Strenuous two days for us OAP’s, still creaking today!
Watching this while warming up after a very wet peak district walk...what a perfect afternoon! We did exactly the same in thick cloud at the top of Scafell Pike, finally got the right direction then went wrong again turning right too early and ended up going up the scree, sliding back down and ending up back on the tourist side of Scafell Pike...idiots! We can't wait to do the Eskdale side properly!
Great video, thanks. Actually just planned this route for next weekend. Good to get a head start and see some of the route. Also I’m now going to make banana bread as a snack too!
Absolutely beautiful! I love the days where the fog and rain keeps everyone else at home, it's always special getting the place to yourself :) Your website is amazing too, I am so happy I found your channel!
Thank you for a great video! I'm just back from Angle Tarn it was raining but still gorgeous, cant wait to get back up there, keep making fantastic content, so enjoyable to watch and I always get some tips and tricks from you !!
That walk brings back a few memories! It was my first attempt on Scafell Pike. Too late in the year and with only a couple of hours daylight left by Little Narrowcove my brother and I called it a day and left it for another time. Second attempt was from Langdale one very early Easter, beaten back by a snowstorm with zero visibility at Angle Tarn. Third attempt and success was from Borrowdale. A large organised group on the top were convinced they were on Great Gable, which caused not so muffled hilarity among the very many other walkers in the vicinity. Six would-be leaders means six times the likelihood of losing your way! I guess you must have done this fairly recently as I saw you looking at some pinks by the stream.
Great vid and respect to you both for tackling that with zero vis. Happened to me once in the Dales when a fret rolled over the hillside and covered everything in mist/fog for an hour before vanishing. Completely lost orientation. Quite scary. Best wishes to you all.
Enjoyed the video, many thanks for sharing. It's a beautiful part of the country, We're booked in for a visit there next month camping for a few days in Eskdale and then onto Wasdale for a few more nights. Might extend the stay with a spot of wild camping somewhere too if all goes well. Really can't wait.
i have been there like you on top of mountain clouds and mist covered with paper map taken wrong way down its so easy ...i now have gps on my phone with memory map on it shows you the track your on and you can see live if you go off your track you allso leave a track line where ever you go so you can retrace your way back ...enjoyed your video
Really nice scenery, good job you are both proficient at reading map and compass. It might scare some novices getting lost in the fog and cause them to panic. I think Vegamite is Australia's revenge for Britain sending all those convicts over there. 😂 I shared a house with an Australian girl once, she had all of us try it. I wasn't even offered a blindfold and cigarette first. Nowadays, you'd have to shoot me first. 😂 I guess that is me off my Aussie relatives Christmas card list. 😂 I was half expecting Oslo to take off over hill and Dale, dragging a wing mirror behind him but he was very well behaved. Really enjoyed this! The terrain was beautiful and that water was so clear!! Very well shot videography and music too!
The BEST route up Scafell and the quietest you very rarely bump into anyone else this way, brought back many happy memories thanks for posting.
Love your videos Athena. I think you capture the experience of walking in the UK so well (rain, no view at the summit yet beautiful luscious landscapes). Thanks for making them, makes me want to go out and walk!
Wish I was as organised as you two, beautiful clear relaxing camera work, really enjoyed this.
Classic Lake district weather , beautiful and atmospheric , thanks for this inspiring video Athena x

It's so nice to wake up to your vlog on a Saturday morning. Thanks for sharing.
It’s so easy to do! Loose the path in fog! This was my playground in the 50’s and 60’s!
It really is!
25 years ago, I did the same. Except didn’t realise until I dropped 1,000 feet and came out of the cloud to see a lake in front of me. There’s no lake in Eskdale! It was a long walk round past Burnmoor Tarn back to Eskdale YH.
Walking in the clouds, how magical. The best way to start the weekend, Thankyou.

Not many people at the summit it seems! And this path looks really good. Can identify a few wild camping spots already 😂. Thanks for sharing Athena!
what a beautiful hiking area. looks like a perfect day.
Lovely video Athena, beautiful and inspiring.
Lovely video enjoyed watching
Thank you 🙏
Watching this while warming up after a very wet peak district walk...what a perfect afternoon!
Eskdale looks like a really nice approach which does not seem to attract many walkers, looking at the narrow path and general lack of erosion!
Scafell Pike is on my list of must do walks. Even more so after seeing this Athena. Lovely video as always.
Great video, Congrats on summiting. keep it up.
wowww,,, 😍😍 beautiful scenery,,,,
Just back from a day on the tussock and peat bog of Rannoch Moor. That Lakeland terrain looks so much more comfortable.
Another great adventure and lovely video!
I am new to your channel this is my very first video to ever watch if yours thank you so much for sharing this awesome video with us .
I love waking up Saturday mornings to your vids Athena!
Great video, I really enjoyed that, Bravo
Lovely video both - just down the road from me - one of my favourite walks - looking forward to your next upload ❤️❤️👍👍😁😁
Thank you! 😊
We’ve just been in the Lakes too. Went to Ennerdale, Low Fell, Loweswater and Buttermere. Perfect walking weather. Scafell maybe next time :)
Very nice to see your preparations and as always a great video, good editing and music
i have been there like you on top of mountain clouds and mist covered with paper map taken wrong way down its so easy ...i now have gps on my phone with memory map on it shows you the track your on and you can see live if you go off your track you allso leave a track line where ever you go so you can retrace your way back ...enjoyed your video
Your channel us amazing 👏 many thanks
A lovely video. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Regards Ken
Really nice scenery, good job you are both proficient at reading map and compass. It might scare some novices getting lost in the fog and cause them to panic.
I think Vegamite is Australia's revenge for Britain sending all those convicts over there. 😂
I shared a house with an Australian girl once, she had all of us try it. I wasn't even offered a blindfold and cigarette first.
Nowadays, you'd have to shoot me first. 😂
I guess that is me off my Aussie relatives Christmas card list. 😂
I was half expecting Oslo to take off over hill and Dale, dragging a wing mirror behind him but he was very well behaved. That and standing on his leash. 😂
Take care of yourselves, stay safe.
God bless.
Steven.
Great video
About 12 years ago, I decided to do some solo wild camping, for the first time since scouting days about 30 years prior to this.
I was staying at the Boot campsite for a few days.
Day One .. a reccy, as far as Great Moss, carrying most of my gear (testing fitness I suppose)
Day Two .. back to Great Moss again, this time carrying all wild-camp stuff including small 2 man tent
Day Three .. Great Moss, Mickledore, Scafell Pike, Little Narrowcove, Great Moss .. PLANNED TO CAMP HERE BUT JUST TOO TIRED TO STOP😢 .. back to Boot .. KNACKERED
Day Four .. too tired to walk anywhere, so went on Little Ratty train instead.
Great video Athena I have to go there. 👌😃
Thanks for sharing the awesome recipe also you have such good content on your channel you have a lot of different things to want to stay engaged on your videos
nice foggy and soggy day out in the Lakes, nice video
Haha it was that!
