i think it has something to do with the volumes and the frequency of their guitars in relation to the MIX. this was not properly setup that's why it looks awkward.
I can't tell you how tired I am of this discussion. Under every single John Mayer video some idiots have to constantly compare Mayer to SRV, Clapton, Hendrix, B.B. King,... I mean - what is the point of doing that? First of all, it seems like people cannot get over the fact that Mayer is a undoubtedly great guitarist. You just can't say that he's a "bad" or average player. That's just not true! Simply judging him on his technique, speed, touch and tone this guy is a fucking great guitarist and far above the average player. I also think that blues lovers and Mayer critics can't get over the fact that he is so versatile. He came from Acoustic pop, went on to the blues and now ended up making two country records. Imagine SRV writing a pop song - I don't know if he could pull it of. And he doesn't have to but all I'm saying is that Mayer succeeded in every single genre by winning Grammy's, getting great feedback by other artists and selling millions of records. To me that is what makes him such a great musician that he is a pure pop artists, while being able to play a fucking solid and beautiful blues (Out Of My Mind), and on top playing some laid back country without using all the cheesy lyrics. People can't wrap their head around someone who can do that. Step into another genre and just cracking it. Many blues players dedicated their life to Blues music and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's this Mayer guy who dedicated his life to all sorts of music so he can't be the master of every single genre he plays. Well, he's definitely on his way to become a true legend if you ask me. Then thirdly all those people judging him and his guitar skills constantly try to argue against Mayers unassailable recognition by other artists. Clapton doesn't just say things like: 'He is a master guitar player.' for no reason. He isn't inducting SRV in the Hall Of Fame for no reason and so on. And then there's the big discussion over his private life. Oh my God. Get a life people! When I'm interested in music I don't care about who's girl this guys sleeping with. And if you're that kind of guy you at least gotta respect him for sleeping with a list of women many of us would be happy to only shake hands with. Imagine you're getting overpured with money and fame in your early twenties. How would you react? It's just plain naive and stupid to judge him on mistakes he made without us being in his position. Anyway, that's just what I've been thinking.
+Maximilian Bartel Spot on. I just said that to a friend the other day, i think most of the people that are hating on Mayer just can't handle how badly they wanna BE HIM, because he's so successful, talented etc. You can hate his music but even blues purists (i'm one of them) would have to admire his unbelievable feel on the guitar. he just has it. I'm not hooked on any other modern guitarist, as i am on Mayer's playing. Gary Clark Jr. is OK but no one can solo like Mayer, his intensity was last captured only by SRV. A few other great players that give me hope - Doyle Bramhall II, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales. And a few younger players like Quinn Sullivan, Roy Goren.. They have some serious talent but they'll have to work on developing their own style like how Mayer, Bonamassa and Trucks did.
Paxton When they were big on the Disney Chanel I used to tell my son, "They are nothing but a bunch of posers." They sit there like they are real rockers with their guitars. What a joke, never heard them play a note.
Tony Marinelli also Disney never really let them shine as much as they might have wanted to because Disney wanted them to write same kind of music every time to satisfy teenage girls but to be fair you should her Nick Jonas’ album called Nick Jonas &the Administration its really great
Mati McCormick yes! , good album , I mean people who just say “Jonas brothers don’t have talent probably haven’t really listened to them carefully , and ya I mean they’re completely different genres so haha ya , they’re just enjoying music
What I think is great about John is he is a playing chameleon. His usual style has a lot SRV and Hendrix but when he's playing with BB, he phrases his licks like BB. You can see the same thing when he plays with Clapton. Really versatile guitarist.
BB seems to have the time of his life. It's so nice to still see him playing happily :) They're both just amazing guitarists, although I'm more of JM fan. Probably because he's more of my generation
what an epic jam..amazing - to the guy below me..just let them compare , who cares ? This is one epic fusion of wicked strings :) Stay cool everybody and let the good times roll :)
Can you blame JM for crossing over, there are few blues clubs, even fewer radio stations that feature blues.its expensive to tour. He has talent and usually includes some blues in his show, so he's contributing in a bigger way than if he became an obscure footnote in the blues world...there are too many of those already.
I wish that John Mayer would stick almost strictly to playing the blues. The only hope for the blues with the new generation is John Mayer, Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall 2 and Keb Mo.
+Tony Marinelli he has to want it for himself. To reach that level requires thousands of hours of practice but if that isn't completely his calling and his decision, it will be a poison

retardedphil I agree, I encourage him but am not pushing him. I am a working musician myself and he has been around touring, recording and rehearsals his entire life. I let him be a kid, if he decides not to give 150% than so be it.
Every frickin' electric guitar made should have B.B.'s name on it he practically single handedly invented the electric guitar vocabulary bends, vibrato etc. nobody did that before B.B. King!!!
Was just about to comment on the jonas brothers and my distain for those talenless mugs, but I see several people have already covered the subject though, good to see. Keep up the good work
this whole video is just two greats of different generations giving the finger to the crappy pulp that clogs up the music industry today. John may not be remembered in the same way as BB but still people will remember him for alot more time than those jonas lads
3:23 - 3:32 I love how it builds up and then John Mayer does that bend I dont know but it just sounds really good , even though its something that basic.
Mayer held back bigtime. He's a modest guy (well not really...) but he needs to take charge and show everybody that he's the best guitarist in the world - by far.
Back when the Grammys actually had real live music...
You could have said just music in general.
RIP B.B. King gone but not forgotten.
He will never be forgotten he is right there in heaven with john and Jimmy
the thrill is still with us
1:21 Nick Jonas studying that solo to kill it... yeah... haha
Mayer really respects his heroes, its nice to see an artist who's made some really mainstream music still love the blues as much as he does
What is "mainstream" music? What is "blues" music? I only know good and bad music
I’ve noticed that whenever JM plays with BB he always sits. I think it’s a sign of respect and he doesn’t want to take the spotlight away from bb

"One more time BB King, one more time!" classy givin' it up for class.
The Jonas Brothers are just enjoying the good music, like everybody else in that room!
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
BB King has been an inspiration to a lot of people and now John Mayer is too he is very good.
I had one of the worst days ever, and seeing the joy in BB’s demeanor just put the biggest smile on my face. Rest easy, King. ((,:
"I'll be voting for each and every one of you!"
His facial expression right after he said that is priceless.

Blues will never die
It’s 2020 and I still get chills watching this performance. Wish this song and duo was on a record or something so I could listen to it on repeat
Nothing but the blues
In 2022 I wish the people that still refer to John at the wonderland guy would watch this! Amazing!
Yeah. Nothing like a bit of king and Mayer ♥️♥️. Geniuses
Lucille should be in a museum someday
+dommell100 neh, a guitar like that should be played.

their guitars are like old friends having a conversation! haha
poor jonas brothers. they might actually get it, but they'll never get the chance to show a wide audience that they get it.
