The Riddlers's laugh coupled with the way he drunkenly stumbles backwards, carelessly knocking over statues and vases, and then laughing at THAT, slays me every time! LMFAO! Damn, you can tell that Gorshin had tons of fun with his role. If there was ever an Oscar or an Emmy for scenery-chewing, that man would have won it YEARS ago. 🤣🤣🤣
Growing up in the 60’s, I always thought that villains have more fun! Batman and Robin were so serious all the time, but Joker, Riddler, and the Penguin were constantly laughing their heads off! Most movies and cartoons of that era were much the same, the bad guy was the only one laughing!
Holy ashtray, he DID tip us off! They were 3 men in a boat with 4 cigarettes and no matches, how did they manage to smoke? They threw one cigarette overboard and made the boat a cigarette lighter.
Wait, so the villainous mastermind who has caused several crimes is making lawsuits against Batman and Robin? There’s a reason why this show was so great
Oh, Frank Gorshin, you mad, beautiful human being! His Riddler characterization was ALWAYS outstanding, and his manic intensity played perfectly against Adam West's poker-faced Batman.
Producer William Dozier did a brilliant job in casting villains. He had made multiple friends in Hollywood and knew just who he wanted for each villain. It was said that Frank Sinatra was badgering him to get on the show but I guess there simply wasn't a role he thought he would be good for.
Absolute bloody genius. I love that feeling of when confusion is replaced with realization as you're like WTF and then you're mind does something magical and presents you with the answer, it's so satisfying like a huge release of serotonin or something. Then you laugh because it's hilarious, then you're in awe because it's absolute genius... 'Made the boat a cigarette lighter'.. words are wonderful... The original series of Batman remains my favourite TV show of ALL time and the Riddle my favourite character, always!
Have we seen the same fucking clip? "Bloody genius" lol Or is it because I don't suffer from terminal level of nostalgia? This is an absolute joke by today's standards no matter which way you cut it, understandably so, since the industry made huge leaps in overall quality. But even by the 60's standards, it looks atrocious: take that toy phone for example.
To me The Riddler was always kind of psychotic with that laugh and all. Nevertheless, he was my favorite villain. You gotta admit he did have some interesting riddles for Batman always.
The Riddler is so badass, he cracks himself up the most. He knows that was the sickest yet of all his stunts, he can't stand it!! He's so drunk on himself he can't even walk straight! What a freak!
This show is fantastic if you view it for what it is: A parody of Batman. If you watch interviews and commentaries with Adam West and Burt Ward, they had to struggle to keep themselves from laughing between each take. The show was a joke, and it was a hilarious joke. I'm so glad the complete series is finally getting a home release.
@foxymetroid it was a parody. batman had a similar costume in the comics at the time but he wasn't cheesy when the show hit second season the comics started becoming a bit more cheesy and Batman fans hated it
@@xolliebollsx904 No, the comics had been at this cheese level, on and off, since the mid 50's. Never forget that Bat-Baby happened in '62, and that Batman's trip to Zur-En-Arrh happened in '58. That said, it was a parody, but of the 1940's movie serials that had recently been re-released.
Assuming Riddler knew Batman was a police officer and he fled from him after being told to halt, I don't think he has a case. Batman was investigating a possible armed robbery in progress and Riddler tried to flee the scene. Does not meet the standard for wrongful detainment.
You cut out the best part! When they remove the bars from the window and he pulls out that amazing tool from his utility belt. Batmans reflexes are sharp as a blade! Riddler points that fake gun in Batmans face and pulls the trigger. A gun that Batman thinks is Real and he just looks at it?
Riddler had it all his pimp style, his rap was tight , the riddle me this . an the laugh was him all the way. Entertaining an couldn't wait as a kid for the next show...
It's nice that TV in the 1960s was teaching that something that looked just like a gun can be demonstrated to NOT be a gun by pointing it at someone's face and pulling the trigger. .... on a children's show. Holy Accidental Discharge, Batman!
If nothing else, Frank Gorshin was the best for suggesting the idea of a Riddler suit. He didn't create the final design, but it was his idea as he thought the onesie was stupid. Looking at his later appearance, he was right.
I was surprised to see the old show, Batman premiered on January 12, 1966 as the first season and had three seasons (1966, 1966-1967, 1967-1968). I thought it would have premiered on September 7, 1966 and would have two seasons (1966-1967, 1967-1968) on ABC. Anyways, the first season was better than the second and the third season.
I read that the ABC network's 1965 fall schedule shows all flopped. They were so desperate to air something that they rushed Batman to air in January 1966. The original plan was to premier Batman in the fall of 1966 as the Batman movie was released in the summer of 1966 and their hope was that the movie would be a great lead into when the TV version premiered.
+RandomExplosions Hi I noticed that based on your comment you are probably a Batman fan. I would really appreciate it if you would subscribe to my channel which I will be uploading the 60s series as well as every other tv show, movie, and batman game ever on.
Just the thought of batman actually showing up to court makes me laugh
And you know Riddler wouldn't show up.
@@kenwatson9406 agreed 😊
Hooray for Riddler! 😂 What a great villian! Gershon was awesome!
Yeah, get the goody goodies in court! Ha ha ha ha😅😮
Superman showed up to court once.

I agree

Hahaha, brilliant line. Thanks for the memories, Lorenzo Semple Jr.
Oh! I just got it!
I know it was hilarious
I never got that riddle until today.
That doesn’t get them to smoke though
Wait, so the villainous mastermind who has caused several crimes is making lawsuits against Batman and Robin? There’s a reason why this show was so great
Penguin did the same thing.
Frank Gorshin. He was recognized as being great at the time as well. More to come.

You hit on all points. The joke's. The riddlers suit wear. Classic stuff

RIP Adam West. You will definately be missed.
all of the words they say sound out of context, "holy ashtray, he did tip us off"
January 12, 1966: A date that will forever live in television esteem: the debut of Batman. Our opening episode is really quite excellent!
1:55 "OUT-RIDDLED!"
lol
Holy ashtray Batman!
Rest in Peace to Adam West, the only Batman in my heart.
Or is it...Adam We. 😆
I miss Adam West.
The Riddler was the best ! And premiered on the first episode of Batman !
Which was what popularized him as a character
Pretty good riddle, very creative.

Lots of childhood memories here, thanks for posting.
The reaction of Batman and Robin is priceless of the Riddler's gun. too much!
Happy 50th anniversary to the best show of my childhood!! KOCO/TV..Bat Channel 5!
Some extremely vintage, and cool stuff.
He played one of the best Batman villains of all time !
THE BEST RIDDLER!
Frank Gorshin was a great entertainer!!
So true
What about the Riddler from the show Gotham? He's great too.
Jim Carey is better
Cory Micheal smith is better imo.
Love that laugh
RIP Adam West
@Nizzemancer By throwing a cigarette overboard, the boat becomes a (one) cigarette lighter. A cigarette lighter. That's why it's a riddle.
Wow, now that is a good riddle.
Wow, thanks for explaining it never would gotten it
Dr. Sigmund Freud would have had a field day examining the Riddler!!! LOL!!!!!!
this is the best batman
he certainly was
That laugh was incredible, as was Cesar Romero’s
Love the suit rather than the tights and so this makes him look better and more mature even thou its the 60's show.
Actual air date January 12, 1966
This was really well directed with everyone playing it perfectly straight except Gorshin. Perfect.
"Snap on the Bat Cuffs". I bet that's not the first time that Batman has heard Robin say that.
+joshjhutton ahahah omg

😂😂😂😂
LMAO! Yeah the idea of a handsome eligible bachelor in his late 30's who wears tights and keeps a young boy in a cave isn't too strange, right?
SHUT UP
Robin is ALWAYS standing on the batmobile😂😂😂😂😂it's funny tho
Well I guess robin's the better detective

Riddler: What is it that no man wants to have, yet no man wants to lose?
Robin: A lawsuit!
Riddler: Correct Boy Wonder!
Other answers to this riddle are:
A fight
A war
Wow, that laugh is impressive and scary 😅
I miss the good old days when we had batman on the TV let's just bring it back .
Man..I watched this in like...2010 man....I was so young...good times....almost dying from laughter at how Robin talked...
So young? That was only 5 years ago.

between Gorshin and Astin, it all depends if you like dark hair or a short haired blond. I always liked Gorshin myself.
