New England. Maine especially. You will be surprised
You mispronounced about 60% or more of our towns, cities 🤣
I'm Welsh. Every tried our place names? 😆😭 Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch?
Ahhhhh! Thank you for doing my state!!! I’m from Drummond Island (tiny island in the upper peninsula) and you SAID MY ISLAND!! Omg!!! Also- it’s a Loon. A bird! Kind of like a duck.
Thanks 🙏🏼 🦆
Amazing video! Thank you very much ❤
Yes, traveling from Buffalo to New York City is about 6-7 hours by car, and easily longer depending on when you get close to New York City. It's about a 1-hour flight.
That's crazy
great job with all the National Forest Names (-Forest Ranger). You should do Idaho or Montana next.
🫡 thank you!!
Michigan also has a town called "Hell," Michigan. It's frozen over a good 3 to 4 months a year. You did alright with some of the names there in Michigan. It's a hodgepodge of real Native American language names and fully unhinged made up ones. The locks in the upper peninsula are S-oo like "Sioux" or "Sue". Cheboygan with a 'Ch', I think it's either a misprint or an unfortunate placement that makes it look like a 'g' there. So "Sha-boy-gen" is that one for those who are curious, or if you're a Troll (lower peninsula residents reside 'under' the Mackinac ("Mackin-aww") Bridge that connects upper and lower hence 'trolls' as the 'Yoopers' unaffectionately call us) you skip some letters: 'sh'boyg'n' is how I've always said it whether they like it or not. The lakes can and often do freeze with quite a lot of the surface of them can be covered in ice so I reckon animals could cross. It's a Loon, capital 'L' there. A beautiful call does the Loon have. I would describe Robins' bellies as pale- to deep-orange. They're larger than their European cousins and the coloring is all belly with black or greyblack heads. Sort of an inverse European robin there which have orange on the head. I've seen a lot of them this winter, which is rather odd it's been pretty cold here (below or well below 0 degrees C...and F at times). Hopefully that means a warm March is in our future.
Other interesting facts. The most spoken language in Michigan other than English and Spanish is Arabic. The Lakes are indistinguishable from Seas standing on the shore. They are enormous bodies of water that get lost when you look at a map. There are an estimated 25,000 shipwrecks on the lakes, including one immortalized in the song "The Edmund Fitzgerald." The Lakes are extremely treacherous bodies year round but huge amounts of freight are carried on them every year - primarily ore, rock, sand and so on.
That's it, that's all I got. If you dare visit the US in the coming years you could do far worse than a visit to Michigan. Come in the second week of July for the best weather opportunity. You should probably not visit from Mid-December through Mid-March. Although in particularly cold years the frozen shorelines of the Lakes is a spectacle worthy of its own pilgrimage.
Thanks for your awesome comment. I am particularly interested in seeing a lake so large that it appears to be a sea. I think the great lakes are probably larger than my country in distance, which I find quite staggering!!
Loon is a bird. I believe state bird of Minnesota and common in Canada
Fun fact. The Loon is pictured on the $1 coin in Canada. We call the coin a "Loonie" and a $2 coin a "Twonie"
Loon's a bird, would be called a diver over 'ome...sort of a spiffed-up cormorant. They have a beautifully eerie call.
Yeah, the Mt. St.Helens eruption was huge, dominated the news cycle for quite a while. There was an entire issue of National Geographic magazine devoted to the massive blast.
Appalachia: "Apple Aitcha", basically.
Watching from the thumb of Michigan like 👁👄👁
💜
Loons are a very cool water fowl that are similar to ducks.
Mm. Canadian here. Probably going to be learning all too much about the USA before long...
🙈🙉🙊 Is learning about Canada on the US curriculum?
Yes, learn all about our wonderful nation 🇺🇸 before we annex your country and make you an American.
Would love to see you do North Carolina next!
Pronunciation guide for Michigan from a native: Cheboygan (sha-boy-gan) and Houghton (hoe-ton), A+ for effort.
Another fun fact: the Isle Royale has the longest active predator-prey experiment in the wild, been going on for over 60 years!
I was hoping he would get to Mackinac, Ypsilanti and Charlevoix. Though I would expect with the French language skills to get that last one.
@@jrxhawks...how about "Liver Noise" Avenue in "Dee Troyt"? 😁
Omg 😲 I would have avoided the first two 😆😂
This made me realize how hard pronunciation of US landmarks are if you just see them written. Like Spokane is “Spo-Kayn”
So tricky!
Spo-can! The city has merch of a can with the word “spo” on it so you know how to say it lol!
From Rochester, lived in nyc for a while. About 7 hours to drive. I did it when I moved in and out but flew otherwise. There is a train, but it actually takes 10 hours bc it stops so frequently. Once we got stuck and I was on the train for 15 hours. I spent the extra 40 bucks to fly every time I went home after
Oh never! 15 hours? I think I could get from London to Moscow in that time! 😂
Washington mentioned! Most of your pronunciations are right, but I laughed when you said Spokane as I'd never heard that pronunciation before! It's "Spo-can". And no one ever knows how to pronounce Puyallup, but it's "pyoo-AH-luhp" :)
😂 thanks!
From Syracuse and lived in Rochester, it’s a 5-6 hour drive to NYC, definitely confuse some people when I say I’m from New York!
That's just so far! I can get to London from Wales in just 3hrs!
You should do Tennessee next!
Michigan my state!!!
