Tegel will sadly close this year and I wanted to thank you for documenting this approach. Your video is unique and It will be an important one for the history of the airport.
All your videos are calm and relaxing. And because I'm scared to death of flying, those films help me to understand what's all about. Keep on doing this wonderful work (and job) and maybe one day such people as me decide to get on a plane. :-)
Nice (now) historic footage! Landed there at least 100 times commuting between FKB and TXL, but also from numerous other destinations between 2005 and 2009. Actually my first flight to TXL was from FRA on 28th December, 1975. And that was on a Pan Am 727-121.
@@mightymkl Dank U for your kind reply! - Actually, I looked it up in my passenger log book: it was on N357PA. Flew back to FRA on 2nd January, 1976 on 727-121 N359PA. In those days I would have preferred to fly into Tempelhof with heavy metal to get the feel of full reverese thrust and max breaking, but Pan Am had just shifted operations to TXL in 1975. In later years I managed however, to fly into Tempelhof myself on Cessnas (have been holding a PPL since 1992). Beautiful landing there captain, right on the money 👍Thanks for uploading. Always enjoying your videos, and you are quite funny as well. Your FO's and cabin crew must love flying with you. 👍
I saw this "marshalling" system when I visited Tegel last year. How does this work? I presume that you're not too far as long as you can see the green square for your aircraft type? I never saw this in any other airport. But Berlin is special in many regards...
Nice question! Indeed it is a very old system. In front you have a light to see if you are in front of the gate. And then you'll see the signs at your left. First you need to find your type of aircraft. (B737 in my case) The front of the plate is green and the back is red. As long as you can see the green side, you need to continue... until you look straight at the plate. Then you need to stop. You see no green no red. When you move too far..... you'll see the red side. So it is not difficult... but not seen very often these days. I like it! Quite tricky old parking there haha I can't imagine landing after a stressful flight and have to worry about deciphering the lottery signs... Is it that hard to get a marshaller?!
Beautiful video. BTW, so many airports are becoming vintage in nature and falling behind the rapidly growing need for larger airports with more and longer runways and taxiways. Even large ones like Kennedy are starting to realize that there will be a need to accommodate increased travel and size of the latest aircraft.

The best cockpit videos in UA-cam are coming from this channel! It would cool to add small airport map while moving on the ground. Like VASA does sometimes.
Jazeker!

Is it just my impression or does the pilot look to the left the whole time even when the runway is right in front of him?
Well... I was looking to the lovely city. But I wasn't looking to the left all the time.
... great video ...

Hello captain, can you explain again when you choose +5 speed or more?
When you prepare your landing you'll select the landing flaps (30 or 40). It will give you a Vref.
Standard we apply a wind correction of 5kts for the FAS (Final Approach Speed).
This correction should be halve the headwind component. Up to 10 it will always be 5kts.
Thereafter halve the wind. (12 kts will be +6... 20kts headwind will be +10)
When the wind consists a gust. 10kts Gust 20kts... It will be halve the wind plus the full gust minus the wind reported.
In this case 5 (halve the wind) + (20-10) = 15kts. This is in our company also the maximum wind correction. (15kts).
Hope the explanation is clear... (otherwise I see your next question).

again super video. and I wanted to ask if you start charts mapping again?
That is a copyright thing... So not in the near future.
@@mightymkl I understand and thank for the answer.
The best cockpit videos in UA-cam are coming from this channel! It would cool to add small airport map while moving on the ground. Like VASA does sometimes.
I know.. but there are some copyrights on them...
Thanks.
