Mulgrew was and remains one of, if not the greatest of his time. I'll never forget the humbleness and generosity of him coming down to a little practice room in midtown NYC after a full day of rehearsals to teach some kid and then ask 'whatever you can miss' in return for probably the most memorable lesson of my life. Mulgrew making the crappiest beat up upright piano sing like a grand and pouring his heart into that instrument was a miracle happen right in front of my eyes and brought me to tears. The man!
I have to tip my hat to how easily the trio swings with that smooth groove. Mulgrew and Rufus find that pocket and ride it out for duration of tune. I remember being mesmerized by Mulgrew at an intimate concert in San Diego. He had me in tears with his rendition of Old Folks. What a gentle soul who always gave respect to those jazz greats who preceded him. He will be truly missed, but his sensitivity and inventiveness of his solos will forever remain in my heart... RIP Mulgrew!!!
Wow! I don't think i have ever heard parker style licks on an acoustic piano ever, the way the bass pushes the tension, you feel it happening, it happens, and then lets off. Did that just happen? Lol

This is a tune that always leaves me stuck for solo ideas on the bridge. It has its own identity for sure!
