This is the story of Solomon Northup. A free African American from New York state. Solomon was tricked into going to Washington DC by performers in a circus offering him work. In DC slavery was legal Solomon was drugged and kidnapped taken to a slave prison and sold illegaly. Solomon was shipped to New Orleans where he was sold again. Solomon was almost killed many times and suffered greatly for 12 long years going from master to master. Until he confided in Samuel Bass from Canada. Bass helped Solomon reach his friends in New York he was freed a few months later.

I've seen the movie it's hard to watch but also very powerful and well acted it's unfortunate that he went through that it's inhumane and very sad but it's our history more people of colour need to research and study where they came from and how they got here America was built on the backs of slaves and the slave trade I will never forget my history this is real to all the ancestors that sacrifice their lives I thank you and I love you I will remember you always I am not an American I'm an African a decendent of slaves who lives in America this is not my home this is not my language this is not my land we we're kings and queens brought here from mother Africa and enslaved on boats bought and sold into captivity never forget Fredrick Douglas Harriet tubman Nat Turner Marcus garvey Malcolm x Martin Luther king jr. Huey p Newton Fred Hampton the black panther party all the black heroes in the revolution that lost their lives Matulu shaker afini shaker 2pac shakur thank you all I love my people we have a beautiful and sad history but we're a strong people we are strong Revolution rise my people break the chains of mental slavery and free yourself let's unite let's be the change we want to see I love my people freedom now
