This is a windlass shanty. A twisty tune for windy winding.
Heave Away, My Johnnies - lyrics
    1. Oh Johnny was a rover, and today he sailed away.
Heave away, my Johnnies, Heave away.
And Sally was his sweatheart, for as long as he would stay.
Heave away, my Johnnie boys, we're all bound away.
    2. We're sometimes bound for Liverpool, and sometimes bound for France.
But now we're bound for New York town to teach the girls to dance.
    3. Our advance is in our pockets, but it won't be there for long.
We'll spend it in the taverns, boys, on women, wine, and song.
    4. In two days time we're outward bound, and down the Mersey we'll sail.
And the girls are waiting patiently, till we're blown back by the gale.
    5. Blue Peter's flying at the fore, the Pilot's waiting the tide.
And soon we're outward bound again, bound for the other side.
    6. And when we're homeward bound again, our pockets lined once more.
We'll spend it with the girls again, then head to sea for more.
    7. But here I'm stuck in New York town, I'm scraping down the street.
With nothing in my pockets, boys, and scarcely more to eat.
    8. Oh, you rambling boys of Liverpool, you sailermen beware.
And never sign on a packet ship, oh sailor, don't you dare.
