Haha yeah I threw that bug into the gladiator ring, he didn't have a chance! Yard is about as dialed as it's been, can't wait till travel gets normal again to get you and the family back out here!
I think the thing I like best about ALL your videos is that how involved all the family is . It's great to see the bond you have as your sons specially as they get older. You teach them that the hard work pays off. The porter family rocks!
Looks excellent - boys progression on the Park is immense! Next large retaining wall consider chucking some river gravel for the first foot behind the wall with a slotted drain at the base. This will drain moisture building up in the dirt, and reduce the risk of the landing getting very heavy during rain events, and failing again!
Wow, what a rebuild! It's looking better than ever, I really dig (pun intended) the rough, natural lumber look with all of the landings! Interesting how you don't pack the trick landing, to cushion Andy crashes! Won't Thant make it feel spongy or slow, or does it pack itself after a while to a good hardness? Keep it up Eric!
Back in the late 80s early 90s all of my friends & I rode BMX freestyle , dirt , street & vert . We got so tired of are dirt jumps getting soggy & having to rebuild them we finally covered them with wood using big spikes that pulled into the ground & anchored the wood to the ground & it was all worth it . We got all the wood for free because one of are friends worked for a hardware store & the owners were willing to help us out . All the wood we used was treated so it was all good . We eventually found a big valley that was on a 70 degree incline on both sides down & up & around 150 feet down & up the other side , we cleared it out & set wood down anchoring it in place , man was it fast & the air time was ridiculous at least 4 seconds of air time we called the place Queen City trails & the valley jump was called the Dip we even made a pro section on the down side that added 70 feet more of the track & if you were brave enough to go down it you could get into the tree line & it actually looked like you were riding on top of the trees for a split second . Way cool , great times .
@@PorterMTB yea it was good time most definitely , I haven’t been back there in over 30 years & when I was 19 the dream was over ,friends were moving on in different directions , we were starting are lives , still remaining friends just chasing bigger dreams . It started at age 16 , only lasted 3 years but I wouldn’t change or take back any of those years for anything , now we all are becoming old men with family’s & some of us even have grand children , that’s what I’m waiting on , that was are glory days . It would have been great to see the next generation of riders take over that spot & I think no one ever did .
Good stuff! The first time I saw one of those bugs I was on a night ride and they were all over the place. It was definitely a creepy bug to run into like that.
I know, I wish we could have dug them deeper but there is solid rock about a foot down in my yard, that's why we had to bring in so much dirt. I may brace the bottom of the wall though.
Don’t know really much about mountain biking but idk if it would be cool to make a massive ramp to go down for the jumps but it has a chain so that it holds your bike up right while you’re on it to get to the top so u can just sit there on your bike and be lifted to the top of huge ramp
ok we have "potato bugs" here on the east coast -- adorable tiny little rolly polly armadillo lookin things. i was *NOT* prepared for that terrifying monster AT ALL OMG wtf is wrong with colorado haha, i'm glad the chickens ate it lol

Man this brings back memories when we had like 6 different lines and all the work we did after school and weekends making it our own little oasis! big time jumps for 10-18 yr olds riding(talking 25ft gaps called the pit) behind St Mary's in Milford CT, bad part was cops always got called on us! never forget that place I ended up lacerating my spleen on a 6 pack rhythm I didn't realize it when I was a kid but legally the school would have been responsible for injuries like mine but I never told where I got hurt! I rode home 5 miles internally bleeding at age of 14 thought I broke my ribs got to my door and passed out spent 7 days I'm ICU..... Classic me 😆😆 my mom wanted to kill me!
@@PorterMTBThanks for replying! In the concrete industry when we are forming up walls usually there are braces that run at 3 different heights of the wall. We do this because if we used one brace in the middle the forms would curl up like a potato chip and the bottom would blow out. I noticed that was the result before you repaired it. By the way, if you find yourself in Florida you have come to check out "Grapefruit Trails".
@@Minifreak739 Yeah I think I'll put more braces in before winter, don't wanna deal with this again for a few years! I would love to come check out those trails!

Loved the clip of the chicken.
Didn’t we all
That was a happy chicken!
That rain completely saved Tidal Wave! It was getting pretty rough. Great video!
Thanks! Yeah we got so lucky with the rain for trail repairs!
Wow! what a HUGE project. Your work ethic is admirable
Glad you noticed, this was a massive one. Took everything i had to keep plugging away at it, but it's always worth the effort!
I love the fact that you procrastinated by going to a DH park. Smart men.
The dirt was too good not to!

Looks like a Jerusalem cricket. And Plymouth barred rock chickens. I have both in my backyard in California!
Yeah it's a Jerusalem Cricket, same thing different name!

for the water slides u could rearrange them to where u could use water to slide down them when it gets hot
That would be cool if it could work!
U guys I sick I wish I had a back yard like that keep up the great work 😁

A ton of work! Nicely done, man that looks fun!

Jump are looking dialed! Idk if I missed it but you should do a detailed tutorial on how to build dirt jumps from scratch.
I should do that sometime!
shoulder checked that ramp like a champ!

Oh yeah rolly polly's are a little different, they are cool!
You should try to transfer from Milo's lip to the trick step up landing.
I think at some point we'll make a video trying all the transfers we can find in the yard!

If you don't want the bottom of that retaining wall to blow out again I would put a brace on the lower quarter to third of the wall.

Do u buy the dirt or do u dig it up from the ground in your backyard like do u have a massive hole where u dig
Good video.
You would have an even stronger wall if you keep the braces 2/3 up the wall...rather then at the top.
I agree, I think I'm going to put some mid height braces in before winter!
yo tidal wave lookin nice!!

the percent chance of rain isnt actually chance, its how much of your area or city is going to recieve rain.
Yeah it's sometimes hard to tell around here, the mountains can create their own weather
How much land do you have? I've got 1.25 acres in Cedar City and am thinking about building a track. Is that enough space for something like you have?
That’s pretty big, I think you could build a cool setup/jumps I’ve seen guys building sick backyard tracks in tiny pieces of land!
We have one acre, I'd say the jumps and pumptrack take up about a half acre, so you have more than enough room!
Man your youngest kid is getting more air than me he’s so good!
have you ever ridden you ur trail bike on ur jump line
I haven't yet, but a couple friends have, and Seth hit the first two on his Diamondback Release!
