Fix BMW Mini Key Fob Fault R53 06

Fixing a BMW Key Fob when it wont register (leaking water)Found the leak it was from the windscreen just to the right of the rear view mirror had windscreen replaced it was faulty from new:(
Some info on how I got the rear view mirror Off Firstly the Whole assembly twists and then will be separated from the Roof
Disconnect the wiring to make it easier to take apart
In the Video you will see I am holding the Plastic ring that Holds the mirror glass in place , Make a note of where the Tags stick out, I used one of my daughters hair clips as it was thin flat but quite stiff, a thin plastic knife may also be useful
try to avoid using hard metal tools as they will scratch the plastic.
I started near to the light sensor and worked my way around anticlockwise At each tag on the Ring you need to separate the tag from the main body of the Mirror housing, I pushed the hair grips in at the tag location slightly separating the main body from the Ring and pulled the ring away from the bod,y once all the tags are released the Ring will be able to be removed and the Mirror to gain access to the circuit board
I cleaned it with an old tooth brush to remove all the blue green dust that short circuiting the Chip.

A massive thank you for sharing. I found that if you squeeze the mirror and pull at the bottom edge first,you can gently release the clips. Once in I found the board cover in green verdigris. I’ve not tried it on the car yet, but thanks for sharing 👍👍👍

This just fixed an 05 Mini Cooper s convertible! Thanks ever so much. Was so disappointed to spend 125 on a new key only to find it didn't work. On the plus side I now have two working keys after reprogramming :) your a gent!! Cheers!!!!

Ha Ha. Mini Vancouver quoted me $700 for the receiver. This fixed it in 15 mins. One less time they got to hose us. Nice.

Thanks for that. Had the same issue with remote key not working and this gave me the info to sort it out. I used a flossing brush to clean the terminals up and had at least two shorted pins. Once installed I did the key learning cycle.
Where did you get the chrome surround for your sat nav?

Yup this fix my remote door lock problem. there was alot of corrosion on the connector too i just used a toothbrush to clean it off

How do you take off the bottom knob from the rear mirror it is to hard to pulled

Carlos Morgan the mirror stalk twists left or right to remove it from the roof I was not able to separate the stalk from the mirror housing.

I just took apart the rear view mirror and there’s no computer chip for the key. Just plastic

Then I suspect its not an R51,R52 or R53 up to 06 model . unfortunatly I did not have a newer one so can't comment on where the reciever is now

Thanks for this, I will be trying. Key fob for my '06 hardtop has been inoperable for a couple of years since rain got into the mirror (sunroof!). Also looked up key programming here: new.minimania.com/Reprogram_New_MINI_Keys_R50_52_53
