"This disorder is not just clean-cut switches from one distinct identity to the next." Thanks for saying this so succintly. I often have no clue who I am, but I haven't seen that phenomenon talked about a lot, so it used to really freak me out

What shocks me is PTSD was treated the same as DID until veterans got PTSD/C-PTSD. Then more research and studying was done and it went from being called Shellshock to PTSD. It used to be thought that those with PTSD were just "in shock" because of the events they experienced and that it would be a short-term effect. Hence why it was called Shellshock. Feel free to fact-check this because I'm just saying this from memory of the research I've done on PTSD. - Creedance

Thank you so much for posting! This is so helpful! Hearing "This disorder is not clean-cut switches" was sooo relieving. Mine definitely aren't but I didn't realize that was normal for DID until you said this. We're new to our systemhood. Some of us found out 3 weeks ago, some of us found out over a year ago.
It was so validating to hear you say "you switch how you switch".
We have a chronic illness called Narcolepsy. A symptom of that is cataplexy. We experience cataplexy during stressful switches, which looks like the body faints. It's like when we get triggered, the front is abandoned so there's no one there for a second. Some people say it looks like a "drop-seizure" or a fainting goat lol.
It was insightful to hear how some alters handle chronic illness better than others. My therapist recently pointed out to me that one part doesn't have the same Narcolepsy symptoms as others. I hope to learn more about this alter.
    Thank you again 💜

Oml we didn’t think that our DID really affected our daily functioning and thus we didn’t get the diagnosis, but now we’re realizing that we don’t know how to function. At. All. We didn’t graduate because other alters wanted to do other things instead of school work and now we’re also at risk of not graduating at all if we don’t get down to business. The problem is though is that we split at the most minor of inconveniences and thus have probably around 500 alters. We don’t have hope at all that we will integrate together but we’d like to partial integrate if we can.

Loved the part where you talk about switches and compare it to people telling someone they yawn wrong. Had a good laugh at that.
Ours vary from part to part.
For the more similar parts (our host and co-host have very similar personalities, with few but distinct differences), it can happen in the blink of an eye, however our trauma holder always needs minutes if not an hour to fully get to the front and take control (a state in which the two current fronters are confused, disoriented and quite frankly very vulnerable).
So it looks different for everyone. Everyone yawns differently lol

I am looking forward to seeing the impact of P-DID in the new ICD, but I'm really cautious about the conversation around "is it DID or OSDD or P-DID?" I think it's more that, in the absence of alters with the distinction required for a DSM-V DID diagnosis, the experience will be different than that of those with more-clearly-noticeable alters. Same idea as for folks with a lack of amnesia but a presence of alters. The experiences and presentation will be different because of the lack of one criterion or another, and its important that folks know there's many ways that dissociative disorders can present. I worry for those who may focus on "OSDD systems present like this and DID systems present like that," and get caught up feeling like the degree of their amnesia or distinctions aren't "right" or "enough," and I worry about this happening both on client side and professional side. It's really like using measuring tools in different systems of measurement, but when it's your whole self being measured, the difference in units hits different.

I love the new intro and the art on the wall in the background! It's amazing. Thank you so much for putting yourselves out there and sharing so much with us the viewers so we can learn about and understand DID. With the statistics, its highly improbable that I haven't met - or won't meet in the future - someone who has DID. And I want to make everyone around me feel safe and accepted. For so much of my childhood, to this day really, I didn't.
Here's me watching the video and editing my comment before I'm even done, as usual. I didn't realize DID was a step above C-ptsd. I talked to a therapist once and told her my symptoms and she just verbally diagnosed me with ptsd. Idk how it works lol and tbh I didn't stay with her for very long but I've always felt C-ptsd describes it better but IIRC that's not on the DSM.

We didn't even know DID was a thing tbh until Amelia came forward and wrote a note for the at-the-time host B. That's when we started researching our symptoms. it was three - four years ago now (We were 18 then so by no means a kid looking for "clout"). We would rather work and live on our own than post tons of video and get popular. Although we do like making the videos we do because it helps us keep track of alters and information we would probably otherwise forget. - Rage

  • @xsystem1771

We have quite a few roles/jobs that aren't in the typical lists of alter jobs, but quite a few seem to be pretty common. These are the titles we use at the moment, somewhat loosely.
Gatekeeper - alters who man the gates
Overseer - alters who report back to the gatekeepers and other "higher ups"
File keeper/Assessor - file keepers alters who deal with trauma memories, making sure they wrong alters don't get memories they're not ready for and assessors are basically those who determine the when, what and who of our trauma memories... they're technically are "gatekeepers" as well, but we choose to differentiate the three.
    Judge - self-explanatory
Architect - can manipulate the inner world, whether it's small like building houses or destroying an entire island
World Guards - "gatekeepers" who determine which alters are allowed in certain parts of our inner world.
Bodyguard - this is what we call our "physical protectors", those who front to take care of threats
Pain Guards - alters who deal with physical pain better than others
Internal Guardian - alter-on-alter conflict managers
Comforter - alters who comfort other alters or the people around us
Peacekeeper - keeps the peace among other alters and/or with other people, sometimes not always in a comforting way like our "comforters". All comforters are peacekeepers, but not all peace keepers are comforters.
Therapist - a level up from a comforter, we do have a few alters who work as an internal therapist, helping talk through things with other alters who are struggling
    Sexual Protector - self-explanatory
Spicy Protector - what we call our persecutors, thanks to a good friend
Afterlife Guardian - our alters experience "death cycles", which is a form of partial or sometimes full dormancy. Afterlife guardians take care of those alters during the process.
Babysitter - well, not now because we no longer have littles, but when we did...
Anyway! The reason I broke that down was to say this... like you said, there are a lot of jobs that not every system has. However, quite a few of these listed above seem to be pretty common, whether the system decides to differentiate with these or similar titles or just go with the default. I feel like talking about "custom jobs" more really helps systems to accept the fact that not every system is the same. 🙂
Which leads me to the "death cycles"... the idea that alters "can't die". That was something we struggled with a lot. There was a HUGE controversy over it, and we we fake-called quite a few times because we experience death. But our alters never really disappear. At the time though, we really though they were! BUT even if an alter does "die" and disappear, we believe there's a thing we call system fusion where the alter kinda... fuses into the entire system. Kinda like everyone gets a little piece of them? I'm not even sure. We had thought we may have experienced this a few times, but we later learned we hadn't.
And that's another thing! The CONFUSION that can happen with DID!!! It's so complicated and complex!
Anyway... moving on... the whole ANP vs EP thing doesn't work for us anymore given that we've fused so much. Nearly all of us hold trauma now, but many still function like ANPs. That's a subject definitely worth going into some day, IMO. :) The idea of ANP vs EP never really quite clicked with our system, possibly due to how large we are. We too have split over 1000 times. But we're down to just a little over 100! 😲
Moving on to your discussion about co-con. That's another thing that we changed to suit our system. We use the term "co-consciousness" to describe if an alter is near and can sometimes influence who's fronting, but "co-fronting" is what we call when two alters are fully front at the same time. But that doesn't mean it's always 50/50. Sometimes it's more like they're sitting on each other's lap. One is controlling the steering wheel, while another is pushing the pedals. Sometimes one is doing both while the other is just sitting there. Sometimes it's like someone's driving, another's on their lap, two more are in the passenger seat grabbing the wheel now and then and 6 are piled up in the back seat. 🤣 Daily struggle, tbh... but we're trying to get a grip on it. Sure, it's funny to think about. But it can get very frustrating. We tend to joke a lot about things like that. We have a saying... if you don't laugh, you'll cry. We choose to laugh about most of it to keep our sanity.
We haven't been watching very many DID videos lately, but we really enjoyed seeing you again. :) This video was very well made. You were to the point but thorough. Keep up the good work! Hope married life is all you wished it to be and more. :D

This is very enlightening and very straightforward with its information.
I really appreciate your transparency and can really tell you mean every word you say and wanna clearly convey your own experiences and emotions as you properly explain this disorder.
By the way, your art is very amazing and I love the creativity put into it.
    My only questions are,
Is it possible to start dissociating at an older age or more specifically noticing dissociations, especially after better researching DID to know what to look out for.
And can different people experience this disorder differently such as being co conscious for an extensive period of time without knowledge? Or is that not possible and is rather one of the different ways alters can collaborate and exist at once such as fusion?
(Apologies if I’m misunderstanding any points or misinterpreting anything)

The similar feature discussed the most is hearing voices. Both those with schizophrenia and those DID often hear voices.
Not everyone with DID hear voices, but some do. Some (like myself) hear the thoughts and internal voices of their alters inside their mind. This is an example of internal dialogue. This happens with co-conciousness.
Those with schizophrenia hear voices that sound external to them. Sometimes they believe the voices they hear are from other people, angels, demons, extraterrestrials, technology, or ghosts.
