What's your best online security advice?
Your team needs to create more content and tutorials, do yourself and everyone interested in getting a Trezor a favor by creating useful content. The downside is when you search for Trezor tutorials a bunch of terrible videos come up, it's silly you don't provide more resources for something so critical as a hardware wallet. This is critical feedback, I'm not hating on Trezor.
Hi, thanks for your feedback! We are aware of that and for our new Trezor Suite app, we are already working on video tutorials so it's ready for the moment it's officially launched. Stay tuned 👀
Freaking great animation. Well done.
Thanks! We're glad you like it 🙂
Great video.
Doesn't specifically say where to set this up on my trezor, I was going to try it out . Will it work for ethereum? I have to go to MEW thru trezor to get to my altcoins
Click on the name of your Connected device / Advanced / Enable passphrase encryption. It will work for all coins in Trezor.
So the Passphrase is not a software thing limited to the Trezor suite software but is something that actually gets linked as "extra-wallet" to your recovery seed on the blockchain?
I initially thought it was just a software-thing like the PIN. But if it's possible to recover crypto with it in third party software it must get integrated into the blockchain if you set up one. Otherwise how would recovery in third party software with the passphrase be possible?
Hi Verbunden, exactly, the passphrase is a matter of the wallet, not the app. The PIN protects the device, and it's device-specific. The passphrase on the other hand is tied to a wallet=seed (sometimes it's referred as 25th or 13th seed word - a phrase on top of the seed). That's why it's possible to recover your passphrase-protected wallet to a 3rd party software as long as you have both seed and the passphrase available.
@@TrezorWallet I see, interesting stuff. Thanks for the response!
@@TrezorWallet hello, i would like to know how to add a 13th pass word to my seed phrase, i have a Trezor T. hope to hear from you.
Hello I’m curious so 24 words= wallet each time we create a 25 word is that equal to a brand new wallet so for example I use 5 passphrase does that mean I now have 6 wallets including the original 24 seed all different tied to 1 seed phrase?.
Yes. New passphrase equals new derived wallet from your main seed.
if this passphrase are used to give a fake wallet to someone that treaten you they probably know about this feature and they will expect from you to enter a 12 word seed . not 13 word. also your extra word should be from the bip39 list otherwise they will understand you are giving them some special word.
so from this logic the main wallet you should use is the hidden one. while a normal 12 word seedphare as the dummy
Hi Daniel, the great thing about the passphrase feature is that you can create as many hidden wallets as you want. You can use some of them as decoy wallets with zero or small balances. You may use the Standard wallet as the dummy wallet indeed.

Does HW is on blockchain too like the standard one ? making HW with all my assets are on the blockchain with my seed? so if it is more safe than standard wallet without passphrase so it would be the main one?!
Hi Karolina, all your assets are on blockchain indeed. Trezor protects your private keys to addresses on the blockchain. A passphrase is an additional protection layer of your private keys; however, assets are still on the blockchain.

I want to know that hidden wallet is actually composed of 12 words? It's just that no one knows which 12 words and order
Hi, you can set a ~50 characters long passphrase in Trezor Suite, and it's only up to you how you structure the passphrase. Please, note that the passphrase is a different measure from the recovery seed (12 or 24 words backup of your wallet).

Hello Trezor team, has passphrase become a mandatory feature recently?
My question is: if trezor disappears. Can a hidden wallet with passphrase be reset on another device?
And Where is the passphrase saved? How does trezor know that my passphrase resets my wallet? Is it saved on trezor servers? Or on the blockchain?
Hi Marc, in case your Trezor goes missing in action you can always recover your wallet by using your recovery seed (and passphrase if you are using one). Your passphrase is not saved anywhere, you are the only one who knows the phrase and that's why it's important to choose a strong but easy to remember one (for you) phrase!
@@TrezorWallet I think he means if the company Trezor dissapears one day. Is it recoverable the wallet with the phrase?
@@mitch4764 yes, can be recovered with other hw that use same derivation path like ledger nano or hot software wallet like electrum. They all use same bip39 standard

@@joebloggs7103 if you still have the trezor hww, you can still use it with electrum (open source, on GitHub, will always be available). Ledger implement it by attaching it with a second pin number (in advanced feature)
i understand the pass phrase concept - what i do not understand is how to send coins to the wallet that uses the pass phrase - can anyone advise?
Hi Danewto, so once you enter the passphrase wallet, you just need to go to your "Receive" tab and get your receiving address that is already tied to your passphrase; no need to take any extra steps. You can check that the receiving address will be different from the Standard/non-passphrase wallet. Should you have any further questions, please, don't hesitate to contact our support team. Hi Michael, what was your question?
How can I make it so that I don't have to enter the passphrase twice?
so entering a passphrase creates a new wallet (which you're referring to as a hidden wallet) thus making the standard wallet a "decoy wallet", is that the gist? I assume you want all/most of your coins in the hidden wallet with the special passphrase?
Either the standard wallet or even another decoy passphrase will work. Check this article on our blog regarding passphrase. It covers the topic of decoy wallet as well!

@@TrezorWallet What i mean is if someone has kidnapped you and found your seed words that were written down then by default your standard wallet is the decoy. If they try and coerce you to enter the passphrase you could either feign ignorance or enter in another a bogus passphrase taking them to another decoy wallet. I guess this is an extreme example im thinking of whereas the idea of passphrase is to protect against phishing approaches not mob style hits.
@@mansooromar719 Exactly what you describe. However, even using a passphrase does not guarantee 100% protection against physical attack. The attacker may persuade you to reveal all passphrases after all. But this is an extreme example indeed.
Hey what if Trezor goes bankrupt? No offence, I know y’all will do well…so will I still be able to use the passphrase to recover my wallet with the seed on some other hardware wallet from a different brand? What if they don’t support passphrase since this extra layer of security is just a Trezor security measure.
There are no such plans because we love cryptocurrencies, but even if we had to close down, there is nothing to worry about. Trezor is compatible with other BIP32, BIP39 and BIP44 compatible wallets. Since our code is publicly available, developers from around the world can maintain it and add new functionalities. In emergency cases (although this is not recommended), it is possible to use the recovery seed to recover your funds in a different wallet as well!
@@TrezorWallet would you still need to use the 25th word if things were to go on your side? Or would you then only have to use the original 24 words you supplied ? Thanks
@@joebloggs7103 Hi, if you store your funds in a passphrase-protected wallet you need a seed and the passphrase (25th word) to be able to recover the wallet and its balances.
Sometimes I enter my passphrase and it doesn't take. It says "wallet empty" or something like that. Then it gives me another option to enter it and it still doesn't take. Then I dump the app and reinstall and the passphrase takes. Why is it doing this? It makes me really nervous about using a passphrase.

An incorrect passphrase is entered if you see an empty wallet with different addresses.
However, next time, please save the Application log you can get in Trezor Suite - Settings - Application.
Is this a BIP39 implementation or something else? Is there a standardized open source recovery if the Trezor hardware is damaged?

Of course it is bip39! FYI it is trezor that invented bip39 and everyone else using it :-)

Trezor Suite will soon replace the production wallet entirely so this issue should no longer be a problem

Hi Trezor. I use model T for about 2 years now without passphrase. Is it safe to enable passphrase in trezor suite options, or should I take any precautions? I am affraid my "original wallet" with funds disappears o something if I enable passphrase
If you enable the phassphrase one more hidden wallet will be created and old one will still exist. But you can also tranfer the coins from old wallet to new wallet
Hi Trezor, I do have one important question:
1. After I increased the passphrase and start to transfer funds from the standard wallet , I mean copying the new receiving addresses ( passphrase already added) and after send to this new hidden wallet, my "new wallets stars to have funds" , of course.
My doubt is, in case that I don't transfer all the funds from my original standard wallet to my passphrase hidden wallet HOW I will be able to recover the both wallets in a brand new device?Ty.
Hi stackasaurus, both Standard and Passphrase-protected wallets are tied to your seed. In case you'll need to recover your wallet to a new Trezor dive, all you need to do to recover your standard wallet is to input your seed. To restore access to your passphrase wallet, you must enter the same exact passphrase on top of your seed. That's it!
@@TrezorWallet thank you for your fast response! 🧡✌
If I have an existing 12 word wallet, do I need to transfer my funds manually to the new 13 word wallet? I guess so, just checking before my T arrives
Hi Cardano, yes, you need to send the coins as a regular transaction. Hidden wallet is a separate wallet from your standard one with its own addresses.
if a forget my passphrase, and have my seed, it is not possible to recover my cryptos from my hidden wallet, right? PS: it's just a curiosity, that didn't happen to me 😀
Hi Michael, your Standard wallet can be recovered by using seed only. However, to recover a Hidden/passphrase-protected wallet, you need a combination of seed and passphrase. If you forger your passphrase, you won't be able to access the Hidden wallet protected by this passphrase.
@@TrezorWallet Thanks.
How can I add a 13th (pass) word to my seed phrase for extra security , I have a Trezor T. I have read that with a Ledger one can add a 25th word. Hope to hear from you. Thank You.
Hi J.M., a passphrase is often referred to as the 13th or 25th seed word. Check our video about passphrase to learn how to enable it in your Trezor Suite app: ua-cam.com/video/QsIvndsFzOY/v-deo.html
Hey what if Trezor goes bankrupt or you can get another Trezor? I know I can use the seed phrase on another wallet that supports BIP39 and all that, but what happens if you have crypto on a Trezor using a passphrase? If other wallets such as ledger doesn't support hidden wallets I don't see how you can get your crypto back. If electrum supports passphrase can your crypto back then? Thank you.
If your Trezor device is lost, not working etc. (or SatoshiLabs shuts down a business), you can recover your wallet easily by using any compatible app, or any other hw wallet following BIP-39. See some compatible third-party apps wiki.trezor.io/Apps. This process can be reproduced with the same result at any time, even offline. You can simply recover your wallet by using your recovery seed (and passphrase) with any other compatible hardware wallet / app when it's needed. Btw. both Electrum and Ledger support passphrase.
Excellent question and thanks for the answer, Trezor staff ;)
Is the hidden wallet available on the Trezor Model One?
Sure thing! Passphrase is available for both models🔒
This is the way - Mandalorian probably lolk :)
Hello :
1 ) How many hidden wallet can be created ? How many passphrases can u create in that order, with only one Trezor ? As many as a 50 characters combination suite ?
2 ) So there's no way ur Trezor Wallet would check a previous passphrase, if the one u try is misspelled. But telling u this wallet is empty ?
3 ) An no way a Trezor Suite upgrade would change anything about it.
This option looks SO DANGEROUS for beginners. U should change the way it's presented to them. They should not use it too soon, but until the they have some background and understanding that HWW are kind of imported in third party wallet like MM. So also very easy too loose track of.
Because this new passphrase is the first thing they will loose if they try it for the fun not knowing all implications.
+ They are some ways to check wallets with the Seed + Passphrase & this info is pretty hard to find. Thx.
Hi Vivian,
Ad 1) In theory, there is no limit; you can have as many passphrase wallets as you want. We have the 50 characters limit in Trezor Suite due to usability, so with Trezor Suite, the length is the only limit, and you can have as many combinations within this limit!
2) There is no way to tell if the passphrase does not include a typo as there is no such thing as a wrong passphrase. However, Trezor will notify you once you enter an empty passphrase wallet, and the passphrase is also displayed on the Trezor display to double-check it.
The passphrase is a great servant but a bad master. Users need to use it carefully indeed.

Is the hidden wallet feature still part of the new update? I can't find it and I had some coins their
Most likely, you forgot your exact passphrase. If it's not correct, Trezor software won't tell you that (the wallet doesn't save your passphrase anywhere, and if you provide a different one, it will simply create a new wallet).
Dear Trezor
I think I inadvertently set up my Trezor without a passphrase. Can I still set one up now?

Is this passphrase just like a private key? I'd need my trezors address private key in order to import it without using seeds, but when I click to check it on metamask, it doesnt have one.
Hi Debukis, the passphrase is added on top of your current recovery seed. When you enter a passphrase, your Trezor combines the already existing randomness of your recovery seed with your own chosen input (the passphrase) and computes a new wallet. If you deposit your coins in MetaMask passphrase-protected wallet, you need to enter the passphrase as well. Otherwise, your coins are stored in the standard wallet, and entering a passphrase is unnecessary.

Hi, to access your passphrase wallet you need to enter the given passphrase. Unfortunately, there is no way how to restore the passphrase wallet without the passphrase.
hi,
so in order to recover the wallet u need the seed wards + your passpharse?
and one more question - in the trezor suite (using trezror one) in order to get ethereum u only use your ethereum address in your trezor suite (so i dont need to use mew).
last question - when i recovered my trezor wallet its recovering all my coins? (bitcoin and ethereum)?
Hi Yair, exactly, if your funds are stored in a passphrase wallet you will need a recovery seed + passphrase to recover the wallet. Seed covers your wallet as it is, which means it will recover all coins (BTC, ETH, and others); the same goes for passphrases.
To answer your other question - you can use either the Suite ETH account or MEW, for example. The bottom line is that by using both wallet apps, you will be able to access the same ETH address, so it!s up to you which interface suits you better.
