    I love my 8n . I know it's wrong but that blue/ gray paint looks great !!

Many people will argue, but the blue on this one is correct. This one was specifically painted blue by ford and given to the dealership as a display award for top sales in 1951.

I have a '50 side mount myself that is currently in pieces in my shop as I am in the processes of replacing the engine. During a rebuild, I discovered a couple of cracks in the block between the coolant jacket and the head bolt holes. Plan on getting on during the holidays, as I found a '52 engine for it. Amazed at how handy that thing, and my '54 NAA are on our small farm/homestead. I would love something new on some levels, but sure do appreciate the lack of a payment book. One thing I did when I replaced a clamp after reading about it somewhere (probably from Bruce's Tips) was to line that clamp with a small roll of alum foil. You roll it up, form it to the inside of the clamp and crush it in place as you install it. You can not see it, and it helps seal any small leaks. Seems to do the trick.

Great advice on the foil trick! The 8n was our only tractor on the homestead up until last year. It is still our main tractor that gets used almost daily. There's a reason older farm tractors are still in use and still working hard on smaller farms. Good luck with your project.

The wider side of the clamp goes around the manifold (top side) and the narrow end of the clamp goes around the exhaust pipe. However, the grinding part is definitely something to consider. I put aluminum foil on the lip of the exhaust pipe and still there is leak. I can tell that my clamp has been sitting as yours before you grinded it. I will have to check it out.
I hate exhaust leak and I know it is there, all black.
