I once talked to a Surgeon who said it might be possible to survive a chest bursting if the patient came under medical attention right away - though of cause it would depend on exactly how much damage was done to vital organs in the process. But he did say that he believed that Kane could have been saved (going on only what he could perceive the damage to be in the movie). He also believed that Kanes heart was undamaged since the blood kept flowing after the chest bursting had happened - such a delightful dinner conversation :D
If only they would showcase someone that does just that in a future film: someone unfortunate enough to go through a chestbursting episode, but still fortunate enough that they were recovered at just the right time and they miraculously survived because they were given medical care at just the right moment.
This is something I’ve been thinking of quite a bit lately as I’ve started drifting back into more of alien content. From what I can tell the chest bursters don’t seem to hit anything vital outside of possibly the lungs. Sure they fuck up the rib cage, but that’s a surmountable problem. There isn’t any real reason people just die almost as soon as the chest burster comes out unless there’s some in universe reason they haven’t bothered explaining yet.
Actually I think the reason that doctor in Colonial Marines said it was impossible to remove the Chestbuster from Bella without killing her was because of how late into the gestation period the Alien was in. So the placenta growing around it was a defense mechanism it had to keep it from being removed that soon. So really the chance of surviving the procedure depends on when it's done.
A placenta would cause other problems - there is no womb to interact with said placenta. As I recall the embryo in one of the novelizations grew a vein and artery to use blood for nutrients. This is limiting because the blood only carries so much nutrients.
One treatment for the cancerous placenta could be found in nanotechnology. Perhaps a nanite solution, programmed to seek out and eliminate the foreign cells, could purge the placenta from the organs the embryo has attached itself to and allow for a relatively safe surgical removal of the chestburster.
i was thinking maybe a small electric shock to stop the persons heart might make the facehugger drop off for a second tricking it into thinking somebody died, similar to the stargate atlantis episode with the iratus bug
Yes i was thinking the same but. in alien 3 embrion queen chest-burst not fully grown . somewhere someone said that alien embrion can feel stress like its host and i assume can feel other things. trying to kill host may result in premature chest bursting.
I believe they did exactly that in Stargate Atlantis when a similar parasite that could not be removed caught one of the characters. They "killed" the victim, the parasite fell off, and they were able to revive the patient.
A theory i've always had on how to safely remove an embryo is to perform surgery on the chest while the facehugger is still attached. Not bothering to remove the parasite itself but instead scanning and monitoring the implantation process step by step and swiftly removing any signs of a forming embryo before it's had a chance to grow into much more than a tiny pulsating tumour This in tern could in theory bypass the normal "dead man's switch" defense of the facehugger by tricking it into thinking that it was still able to do its job and eventually detach and die like normal, since as far as it was concerned, the implantation was a success (and even if it was aware of the death of the embryo, there's nothing it could do about it since it already used up it's energy the first time, so it would still die shortly after the surgery anyway)
In my humble opinion, if Ripley took Weyland-Yutani up on their offer in Alien 3, I believe they would have killed her the second she let her guard down with them, took the xenomorph baby out of her body, and would have done God-knows-what with it.
seems a tiny bit risky, unless you're implying they knew it was just about to burst. And in one of the cuts of the film the alien is shown bursting out of her chest right as she's landing in the lava I believe, so she realistically would be dead regardless (I don't think they would have rushed her to some sort of medical safety machine in a minute's time)
*Loader2K1* This makes the most sense to me. They would have either detained Ripley and let it burst out of her naturally or would have killed Ripley in order to make sure the xenomorph survived.
Topic suggestion: "How dangeorus is the Xenomorph's acidic body fluid?" We know it reacts very aggressively against metals and rock but in Aliens after Gorman's recovery Bishop commented that the acid is not that harmful to humans and it serves more to paralyze the victim than kill it, obviously so that the body can be used by the Xenomorphs. Gorman recovered and appeared to be fine and commented that it feels like a hangover but he was capable of fighting shortly after. This begs the question is the blood of the Facehugger or the adult Xenomprh is of different makeup? As a facehugger's blood should be more about self defense to protect against removal by damaging the host or the area while implantation. While a drone's blood would be more inclined to paralyze the victim in case it fights back so that the victim could be recovered and used for reproduction.
In AVP 2010, Katya the synthetic in the marine campaign, knew that the player's partner, Tequila, was infected with the embryo but told them that there was a way to surgically remove the parasite safely. You do end up taking Tequila to the surgery table, but the process was interrupted by the Wayland android.
Romulus showed that you can remove a facehugger without harming the host, but if it's letting you, you were already too late. The one in Aliens is shown to be actively seeking a new host to replace the one who died being separated from it. I thought that was a nice touch that didn't impinge on any canon that was already established. Now instead they confirmed it's got a "that'll do" threshold. Quite terrifying.
I don't like this addition because it means that the facehugger is just hanging out on its victim's face even after the embryo is implanted. What for? Either the embryo is implanted or it's not; there shouldn't be a "not all the way but good enough" category.
@@kjhuang Logically it would make sense for the facehugger to jump off the host instead of staying since the host would likely assume nothing was wrong vs having them be found and risk the chestburster being captured or destroyed before it can fully gestate.
@@AxisChurchDevotee An unwitting host will assume everything's okay once the facehugger is off, no matter how long it was on the host. See Kane in _Alien_ .
@@kjhuang Not unless someone finds the thing on them. Seriously, it should be common sense a bug parasite would do something big to whoever got caught.
Are you considered making a video on the removal of Shaw's embryo in Prometheus? I understand it wasn't a chestburster per say, but I think it's worth investigating.
I thought about mentioning in this video but I think I'll end up doing a separate video on the Trilobite. I figured it didn't really belong here since it was a completely different type of gestation process but yes most definitely worth investigating.
As you may or may not be aware, in the original script for Prometheus, it was a chestburster which broke out of Shaw while she was in the pod. The medical pod repaired the damage as it was being done by the emerging alien which crawled away. Shaw did survive this procedure. Of course this version was not the final script but I still thinks it's worth noting. If you haven't read it, a quick google search will turn it up.
I'd like the series to explore having a surgically assisted 'bursting', allowing the xenomorph to exit the body at it's normal time but giving it a path that wouldn't kill the host (if at all possible).
I agree, but will also add that the willingness and skill under pressure of the surgeon involved would be of paramount importance. I'd much rather have a battle-hardened thoracic surgeon operating on me than a ear, nose, and throat Doctor, LOL!
The timing could also play a part, too. If you could predict when the Chestburster was preparing to bust out of its host, the surgery could go more smoothly.
With proper technology, the embryo could be removed safely but not the placenta. In Alien Resurrection, they could safely remove it all, somehow. If the expanded universe can still be seen as possible canon, I'd bet there would be other ways to safely remove the chestburster before full maturation. I do have a question about this process... since during the embryo development, both the host and alien are being in somekind of symbiote relationship. If a safe removal occurs of embryo and the placenta, and the host is in good state, would the host retain some sort of "xeno dna" inside him/her? Would it be possible that the xenos see the "safe host" in other ways and not being able for another impregnation? That would be a marvelous defense against the xenos if that would work! They'd see you as their own, somewhat! Thoughts?
starfuxer are you stupid or something the xenomorphs in alien Resurrection where genetically modified clones and not pure that's why removal was perfected because the separated the placenta in the creation process.
Colin Brouillette Hey jackass, he was asking politely for your thoughts. Not for insults. On a side note, the host being genetically modified doesn't prove that a chestburster and it's placenta can't be safely removed.
While very non-canon for both franchises, Superman was attacked by a facehugger once. He was de-powered at the time, essentially a normal human, but upon regaining his powers under a yellow star, the still developing chestburster was crushed and killed inside him, which his body then absorbed. So it stands to reason that some species that are sufficiently hardy could either survive the entire process or have a way to deal with it before it becomes an issue.
Surgery is fundamentally a reversal of entropy, in theory any surgery can be performed with techniques which are efficient and precise enough. That said some surgical procedures maybe unfeasible and/or impossible with given resources (technology, medication, expertise). Point is a chest burted could likely be extracted safely, but it is also likely to be a complex and difficult procedure.
I have a Dark Horse comic where Superman visits a space station close to a red star. There he encounters a survivor with an alien embryo within her. Superman uses teleporting equipment to transport the embryo out of the host, but he is unable to rescue her and has to leave her behind. He uses his ship to blast back into close proximity to a yellow star where he regains his powers and outlives the alien embryo that threatened his own life. Good read
It should be noted that all the Xenomorphs in Alien: Ressurection are partially human. Just as Ripley 8 contains traces of Xenomorph DNA, the Queen she bore and all its eggs contained traces of human DNA. This could explain additional compatibility with removing the chestburster and the longer gestation period for the chestburster inside Purvis.
I'd imagine if they were preparing to surgically extract an embryo, knowing that its blood could be an issue, they'd be equipped with acid-resistant materials. Like whatever the hyperfuturistic version of tungsten carbide would be. EDIT: Not that I'm defending that movie, I can barely watch that shit lol
Sorry, I'm a machinist, TC is not a ceramic. It is half Tungsten, and half Carbon, no Silicon...and is generally bonded with Cobalt or Nickel to form cutting tools or armor-piecing rounds.
Knolltop Farms Yep, which is why I specified that it would be some futuristic equivalent in terms of general acid resistance, and not a carbide itself. Also the material required would be largely dependent on the actual compounds in the xeno's blood composition. For example, one could hypothesize that it contains fluorosulfonic or pentafluoride compounds, which would react with silicon and therefore render ceramic tools unusable.
If gestation is only 24 hours.......a surgeon would have to get in quick, maybe even while the face hugger is still attached. It would seem that the earlier the gestation process is stopped and removed, the chances of survival increase. Great video. I wish more of this stuff was explained in the movies.
In the novelizaion of Alien Resurrection Purvis had a medical condition (I forget what it was). That was the reason why he woke up from stasis prematurly and witnessed his xeno-egg hatch while his fellow crewmembers were still asleep. His med-con was also the reason his Chestburster was SO late emerging, he having outlived his fellow crewmembers by SEVERAL hours.
The queen chestburster was about to come out of Superman moments before he got bacc into contact with our universe yellow sun, charging his powers bacc up to 100%. Soon as his powers are at full charge the chestburster breaks its necc trying to push out of Supe's ribcage Which leads to superman coughing it up and spitting it out
2:18 what i don't get is how ripply 8's acid blood had no affect of equipment during removal of the queen. they should of become aware of the hosts genetic splice at this point making ripply more valuable than the queen.
There is a short comic story that has the only known survivor of a chestburster in it. It appears that he was already in the operating room when the chestburster emerged and as a result he had most of his body replaced with cybernetics.
I also read that comic: an enterpreneur along with a camera woman, a female droid and a mercenary (the later is the one who survived the chest burst) go into a pyramid like structure to record footage of aliens. I think its name is Alien: Terminus, or sorta.
I remember in that game colonial marines, a doctor explained that the chest buster leaves a placenta in the body. It acts like a cancer that kills your organs one by one.
Embryonic removal seem to dependent on a lot of things, the technology that's available, the surgeons skills, and the health and determination for the patient to live on afterwards.
Thanks for making this ! I have two video suggestions ! The first one is asking the question on how the Xenomorphs can physically see, the second one is about the rapid growth. How long does it take, what are the stages and is it easy to exterminate a chestburster before it grows into big enough to fight back (or hunt)
Considering how long Weilant Yutani have been wrangling these things around It would surprise me if they DIDN'T have the technology to make that a non issue. The Facehugger is clearly a problem but the gestating larva shouldn't be even when connected to organs. We are talking about the distant Sci-fi future after all. It's also highly possible that the Autodoc isn't well known early on and / or surgeons are selected to learn the method or just be labeled "disposable" as the company tends to do to a lot of its workers.
@@AlienTheory Labyrinth was good, except for some of Dr. Church's juvenile patter. A man of his breadth of personality ought to be more dignified. I would have liked to seen a sequel for Labyrinth. There is a lot of Dr. Church story to build upon.
I always like the detail in these theory videos, the lore of the Alien Universe =P I think they could, depending on the timing and the equipment. In the latest Alien Vs Predator game, the girl's got a Xenomorph growing inside her and you help her to get to a stasis pod, hyper sleep or freezing, bringing the heart rate down a lot, maybe a shit load of morphine or diazepam or something would help lower the heart rate enough to keep the alien growing slowly until you could get someone to get help. Cool topic.
when I saw the title of the video the first thing that came to my mind was the autodoc from alien resurrection on the psx, I'm so glad you actually mention it
I always figured they were as good as dead. The facehugger has way too many safeguards in place to ensure it's not removed. It stands to reason the chestburster would have just as many, if not more.
Even if they're able to remove the Facehugger during implantation, I suspect it keeps the host in a chemically induced coma which paralyses their pulmonary system, with the Facehugger itself acts as a ventilator. After implantation is successful, the Facehugger would then deliver a chemical resuscitation cocktail before crawling away to die. Removal of the Facehugger during the implantation phase would therefor lead to the host suffocating.
I'm inclined to believe that it varies person to person. I mean, hell, in Aliens: Labyrinth there's a USCM security guard mentioned briefly who survived the process of having a chest-burster come out as it usually does (although he was in a fully equipped trauma center ready for what was about to happen).
the new movie confirms the possibility of a facehugger being cut off, though it has to be done quickly all you really need to do is cut one of those 2 sacks and it will detach itself only problem is it might get some of that acid on someone, but I'd rather have that than a terrifying death. also to add on the way it impregnates it's gross. it shoves a tube down you throat an pumps the stuff in you. nasty stuff.
Don't forget, there's also a line of dialogue, explored more directly in the novel, during the attempted facehugger removal from Kane. The fingers are so firmly attached to his face, that even trying to gently lift them begins tearing the skin
Some of the expanded universe material that depict Chestburster removal usually results in the host suffering from cancer as a side effect. Removal of the Chestburster in that way is like a double edged sword. Perhaps during removal, depending on the host and the steps taken after removal, the host can stave off theses cancerous tumors and live a normal life with the body reconstructing the chest cavity.
This was such a cool video! I was gonna message you to see if you could do a video on this subject a few days ago but I didn't think you would see it. What a cool concept! Thanks for all your work man! Keep it up!
I would go as far as to say that the trilobite removal was even more dangerous then a chestburster removal. Wouldn't Shaw still be infected with the black goo after having sex with her infected boyfriend?
I think it is a case by case issue depending on the host, the Xenomorph, the stage of gestation, the technology, the skill of the surgeon, and possibly other factors.
Could you discuss the possibility of harvesting a xenomorph brain and placing it in the Cain cyborg from Robocop 2? It would have the fighting instincts of a xenomorph combined with all the badass weaponry that the Cain cyborg has to offer like the minigun.....call it the Xenoborg.
Side note: Xenomorphs have larger brains than humans. Significantly so. Are they smarter than us? Or have the potential to be but aren't because of instinct?
Well we know you can survive a trilobite chest burster if you have one of the only 7 most state of the art medpods. Of course that was also a type of Xenomorph that was far earlier in their evolutionary history, so they may have evolved past it.
In Aliens Dark Descent one of the items unlocked through xeno research is a facehugger detaching tool. I'm not sure if it only exists in gameplay or not, but if not, that would mean someone with the proper medical knowledge and understanding of the xenomorphs can easily make one.
Love the series, keep up the great work! If you haven't done one already, I'd love to see a video breaking down the weaponry of the Alien films (Pulse rifle, M56 Smart Gun, etc.)
When the alien shows up in 2000ad judge Dredd the med judges do succeed in removing two chestburster after falling one surgery which failed due to the power being cut out.
3 chest-bursters were also removed in the Batman and Aliens comics, but I don't think these cross-overs count as being an accurate source of information.
thelordelric In the Superman/Aliens crossover Kal-El regurgitated (threw up) the one implanted in him. Don't know if this was because of his Kryptonian physiology or not but it was an interesting scenario.
At the beginning, feel absolutely free to correct me in anything ;) Depending on how much time it takes for an embryo to be laid in a ribcage and subsequent dying of the facehugger. If the time span is like: Facehugger sends embryo in the host and dies immediately after, then it could be possible to start operating then and there and remove the embryo before it starts creating the "cancer" placenta cells. If the facehugger waits for the embryo to grow a bit before it dies however, it might be trickier. I don't know of any recorded case of the behaviour, which means watching a facehugger and his embryo simultaneously from the phase of facehugging to the phase of chestbursting. Kane might have had the facehugger attached to him a long time or a short time, it is never said. Just like with every other person. So if the case is: facehugger dies at the point of no return for a host, then it really is a perfect organism.
Chances are that during the facehugging process its already began spreading the cancer cells while its still attached to ensure the embryo is rooted inside the host
My understanding behind the freezing of Larry Purvis was either that there were more advanced or at least less corrupt organisations that "could" do the surgery, but more likely (in my eyes) that they just intended to freeze him until such technology did exist.
No; if the Original Ridley went thru the procedure, even wth the best pro-team of Ridley Weyland Yutani surgeons on her l, she would of died before removal or even at the point of removal; the cloned Ripley had much more superior DNA of the Xeno and could heal faster-that surgical cut healed in 3 days or less w.e it was Wolverine style, and further it being a queen and could prob release a poison release in her body upon removal disturbance like a land mine
For your future videos can you make one about how the hive turns a facility into an organic maze where it looks like you're inside of a giant worm or someting. I know it's a minor fact but I think there still might be an explanation as to how and why the xeno's do it. And again, thanks for the amazing videos!
how about NANOBOTS program them to make an alternative path for blood meanwhile starving the embryo and cutting parts of it that wont cause acid damage
I'm going to say it depends on how soon the embryo is removed. If for example the embryo were removed only minutes after implantation before it could begin to attach itself to the host's internal organs I think it might very well be possible to survive.
I think later on it's totally possible. Like when Ripley was cloned. They've obviously had lots of time to study the xenomorphs and have a lot of interest in them. It would make sense that technology improved over time allowing the removal of an embryo.
Firstly, I love your videos! They are the best and your voice is the best and your storylines everything is the best! As to whether someone could survive having the alien embryo removed I'm going to say no because the way it attaches itself to the face and the neck that ensures that it can't be removed until implantation is complete. So at that stage when the facehugger falls off the embryo is already a part of the body and can only be removed by killing the individual. And those are my 2 cents!
Mr.DeadlyShadowDweller Facehugger would toxic shock a host upon sensing removal. Its renders hosts unconcious through chemical sedation rather than a strangulation from the tail.
I'm fairly confident that the face hugger moves its 'falice' down the tracia, and moves it's bio-virus into the hosts lungs where it is rapidly absorbed. It is likely the virus repurposes preexisting organs such as the gall bladder and muscle tissue rather than have the host fully grow it's body, as this process is much shorter. The compound to do this may be released as a last result should the embryo go into shock, causing other organs to begin repurposing leading to failure. Perhaps if it is already dead this won't happen.
DarkMasterM19 Facehugger use a chemical sedation process to quickly knock people out. If they uncoiled the tail the facehugger would dump large amounts of chemicals into a host before killing them through toxic shock.
Even if it wraps its tail around a neck or limb it is still strong enough to lock the legs around your face and sedate you. In aliens it took 3 marines to pry one off of Ripley. In AVPR the homeless guy trys to fight one off but gets latched on
I know from personal experience that a facehugger can indeed be removed You simply coat the facehugger with a liberal coating of salt and or thick oil The facehugger wont be able to respirate and will detach in a panic at which you can capture the facehugger in a bucket As for removing a chestburster, assuming you are at a medical faciity, to deliberatey flatline the patient fooling the chestburster that the host is dead You can then surgically remove the chestburster without it retaliating
In the movie alien resurrection the Xenos uses there tung to shoot at the big red bottom to activate the cryo gas. As the Alien in avp 2010 game you run around doing the same thing but to open and close doors
Josh Allington Vlogs in aliens they were smart enough to knock out the power in the area the marined were in. ridly scott had originally planned the first alien use the communications equipment on the shuddle to try and get a signal. of cours e that isnt canon though
Josh Allington Vlogs as far as being functioning like a human? at the moment its doubtful. but the black goo introduced in Prometheus quite limitless possibilities. xenos can already think. humans thinking they cant is absolutely foolish. how much they can think is the real question.
Exactly can they lay a trap can they find out how to use the technology around them like in aliens when drake was fighting the warriors he walked right by one and it didn't move till he walked by it or could they operate a vehicle like the queen using the elevator in aliens and how the xenomorphs got around the barriers by crawling through the ventilation system
I think it's a death sentence at the time of the main trilogy and colonial marines. In colonial marines it was also shown in a diary that one of the doctors got a facehugger attached to him, so, against the wishes of the company, his either husband or brother (they had the same last name, anything else regarding their relationship is unclear) tried to remove the embryo, but like the other doctor said in the cutscene, the victim still died.
Awesome video as always. On the references about removing a chestbuster i think you forgot the one in Alien vs Predator (2010) where Lt. Tequila is freezed on a stasis pod with the promise of a future removal. Maybe it's just a lie, as it would be the removal of the queen in Alien3. I personally stick with the idea presented in Alien:Colonial Marines, as it presents the creature and it's development as what it was originally planned, a weapon.
LOL How about just having FIVE people using both of their hands to peel off the facehugger's appendages! That way there is nothing it can do to enforce it's grip! Use strong men with strong hands! Problem solved! At least in the removal of the facehugger! I mean, Ripley overpowered the facehugger's tail with two hands while dealing with it's legs! Men would be capable of more! In the end, it can just be thrown in a large basket and experimented upon! Like making it impregnate animals! Like a King Cheetah, a Red Kangaroo, or a Komodo Dragon!
Don't you realize that facehuggers are genetically programmed to get that alien embryo into a person no matter what people try to do. their grip is extremely strong and nothing can get them off without killing the person in the process. they insert a probusicious tube into the victims wind pipe and attempts to remove it could damage the victims breathe and would result in death
Based on my interpretation of the corner's autopsy reports at 1:34, it doesn't look like you're intended to survive regardless of whether you try and remove it somehow. A blood panel is a series of blood tests run on a patient/test subject to check and see what is or is not present in the blood, and at what concentrations (if any); normally it's used to detect the presence of cancer in the body, organ failure, infection, or if someone has been poisoned, either purposefully or accidentally. The final line of the report in layman's terms says "Based on the blood tests we ran on the dead person, it's possible this Facehugger realized it was going to be removed, because we detected that it dumped a huge amount of toxins into the victim's body after we started the removal process, possibly with the aim of poisoning the victim to death. A combination of that, and Traumatic Shock (I'm assuming severe acid burns from the facehugger being cut open while still attached to his head) caused the patient to suffer a Myocardial Infarction [a heart attack] and die." If a facehugger deliberately sabotages a victim by poisoning the living shit out him/her as an anti-tampering fail-safe measure to kill them even if they aren't impregnated, then it would most likely definitely mean it would decide to kill the host if you tried to pull it off, unless maybe you somehow figured out how to rip it off in one piece instantly.
I think it might be possible that the host could live if u remove the embryo in time. its possible that it may be a case by case basis but I guess it depends on what sources u want to go by.
In the Prometheus Original Script Titled Alien: Engineers (which is WAY better then the actual movie) Shaw is inpregnated with a Xenomorph ChestBurster (instead of a baby Trilobite) and does manage to remove it via the MedPod but not without some complications that would've resulted in death if it wasn't for the MedPod itself, it seems that a Xenomorph Fetus is sentient even inside the host and can tell if someone or something tries to remove it and will attempt to kill the host by any means and in Shaw's case the Xenomorph tried and succeeded in damaging her lungs as it was being pulled out of her but it didn't succeed in causing any permanent damage and Shaw was able to recover, so if anyone considers the Prometheus Original Script canon (like I do) then yes a Xenomorph Chestburster can be successfully removed from the victim if done properly but keep in mind that in the Original Script the Xenomorph survived the removal with little harm despite it being Premature...
IIRC the grown up Xenomorphs can be stunned or even manipulated with specific tones or ultrasounds. Perhaps this could be used against facehuggers and growing chestbursters as well?
I've got two proposals how to remove a chestburster: Either use gamma knife to kill off the xenomorph tissue inside the host's body or keep the chestburster inside immature using some sort of puberty inhibitors. The chestburster would then act more like a regular tumor which is still a problem but not as much as a healthy chestburster.
In the video you mentioned the xenomorphs had a weakness, a black mold growing in a hive somewhere. This is the first I've heard of something that's predatory on the zenomorphs. Could you elaborate more on this event? Where did this mold come from, and how were the xenomorphs infected with it? This has the capacity for new story.
Maybe it depends on the time the host is impregnated with the alien. From the time the facehugger fals off, to the time the chestburster comes out. There could be a "point of no return" were before that point is reach the extraction is still possible. But after that it would deadly to attempt, since the inner organs would be too much involved in the process of developing the alien.
How to survive a Facehugger: Step 1) hold whatever breath you have and don't breathe when it's on your face (because it has this thing that'll make you go to sleep) Step 2) find a wall (still holding your breath) and slam your face against the wall attempting to knock the Facehugger out or kill it. Or you could slam your face against the wall while trying to pull the tail off your neck. That helps
It depends on how those kind of technologies could play a role in saving that individual from a terrible situation like that it worked excellently in Prometheus but in Aliens just before Ripley was nearly impregnated by the facehugger she grabbed it while the tail was strangling her they eventually got it off her and threw it against the wall and blew it to pieces that kind of technology can play a critical role but it depends on how they're able to get it done all it takes for that technology is to prevent the chestburster from even erupting by being well equipped if they placed the autodoc inside their ships and is able to get rid of the chestburster then there would've been the concept of embedding an Autodoc inside the Nostromo or the Sulaco it depends which one of those theories makes sense but even though it may not work entirely there are some cases highlighted of successful removal the main problem is the facehugger any attempt to remove the facehugger then the facehugger will strangle its host with its tail The Autodoc may sound like a good idea but what it takes is the surgeon and the crew by having the patient under a sedative while they perform the operation

The blood loss would be too great for survival

Perhaps a nanite solution, programmed to seek out and eliminate the foreign cells, could purge the placenta from the organs the embryo has attached itself to and allow for a relatively safe surgical removal of the chestburster.
Is there a "placenta"? Placentas require a uterus or some other membrane for a point of interface.
Well they did make the habashi and habeshi fight to create a spear to pierce the M on on chest through my montane hoodie 😭
But then in the Alien Vs Predator game removing the embryo from Taquila was do able just could due to Wayland interference
i was thinking maybe a small electric shock to stop the persons heart might make the facehugger drop off for a second tricking it into thinking somebody died, similar to the stargate atlantis episode with the iratus bug
Sidious interesting idea.
Make sense.
That might work because their would be no point in impregnating a dead corpse since a live host is needed
A theory i've always had on how to safely remove an embryo is to perform surgery on the chest while the facehugger is still attached. Not bothering to remove the parasite itself but instead scanning and monitoring the implantation process step by step and swiftly removing any signs of a forming embryo before it's had a chance to grow into much more than a tiny pulsating tumour
This in tern could in theory bypass the normal "dead man's switch" defense of the facehugger by tricking it into thinking that it was still able to do its job and eventually detach and die like normal, since as far as it was concerned, the implantation was a success
(and even if it was aware of the death of the embryo, there's nothing it could do about it since it already used up it's energy the first time, so it would still die shortly after the surgery anyway)
Exactly what I was thinking.
And in one of the cuts of the film the alien is shown bursting out of her chest right as she's landing in the lava I believe, so she realistically would be dead regardless (I don't think they would have rushed her to some sort of medical safety machine in a minute's time)
Loader2K1 thas wat my mom thought as well
Loader2K1 that was the point since pt.1 ....bring specimen back no matter what
I think they would have just waited for the alien to burst out then just kept the chestburster.
*Loader2K1* This makes the most sense to me. They would have either detained Ripley and let it burst out of her naturally or would have killed Ripley in order to make sure the xenomorph survived.
Topic suggestion: "How dangeorus is the Xenomorph's acidic body fluid?"
We know it reacts very aggressively against metals and rock but in Aliens after Gorman's recovery Bishop commented that the acid is not that harmful to humans and it serves more to paralyze the victim than kill it, obviously so that the body can be used by the Xenomorphs.
Avp isn't canon
Romulus showed that you can remove a facehugger without harming the host, but if it's letting you, you were already too late. The one in Aliens is shown to be actively seeking a new host to replace the one who died being separated from it.
I thought that was a nice touch that didn't impinge on any canon that was already established. Now instead they confirmed it's got a "that'll do" threshold. Quite terrifying.
I love that they freeze the tail to remove the facehugger but it was already to late
Alien Theory agreed....different specimen & type of machine in the process.
Alien Theory ,great video but you never mentioned about the time when superman survived a chestburster
I'm glad I'm not having eggs for breakfast this morning...all this talk of embryos is giving me a sensitive stomach!
I'd like the series to explore having a surgically assisted 'bursting', allowing the xenomorph to exit the body at it's normal time but giving it a path that wouldn't kill the host (if at all possible).
I believe it's possible, but it may not be successful all the time. It might even depend on the physical health of the host and their will power.
Mr.ScaryPasta it probably doesn't have a very high success rate
Jake Alter
Maybe not, but if the host has a strong enough physical health they may survive with minimal to no damage.
@@MrScaryPasta willpower doesn't mean jack shit if you end up riddled with genetic damage/cancerous growths
A good ol coat hanger will most likely do the trick

Maybe they remove it from the mouth?
@@colinbrouillette304 You are just trying to rub off him
While very non-canon for both franchises, Superman was attacked by a facehugger once.
Glad to see you're making the analysis videos longer. You do a good job going into in-depth exploration.
Thank you! I've gotten a lot of feedback saying the videos should be longer so I hope this one flowed well with everything covered.
Why didn't the Ripley clone's blood not damage the surgical tools?
Movie mess-up if you ask me. But then again, it was a bad movie in that regard anyway.
Wouldn't be a carbide, too reactive, the tools would have to be ceramic in nature...
Sorry, I'm a machinist, TC is not a ceramic. It is half Tungsten, and half Carbon, no Silicon...and is generally bonded with Cobalt or Nickel to form cutting tools or armor-piecing rounds.
Knolltop Farms
Yep, which is why I specified that it would be some futuristic equivalent in terms of general acid resistance, and not a carbide itself.
Have you done a vid on Xenomorph physiology? Like skull cavity, those dorsal tubes, the armor-like skin, tail blade, all that into detail?
In the novelizaion of Alien Resurrection Purvis had a medical condition (I forget what it was). That was the reason why he woke up from stasis prematurly and witnessed his xeno-egg hatch while his fellow crewmembers were still asleep. His med-con was also the reason his Chestburster was SO late emerging, he having outlived his fellow crewmembers by SEVERAL hours.
In AVP game 2010, you can remove the alien embryo with a special device.
I remember Superman digested his chest buster
Crazy House I thought he barfed up a queen and threw it into the sun?
The queen chestburster was about to come out of Superman moments before he got bacc into contact with our universe yellow sun, charging his powers bacc up to 100%.
Soon as his powers are at full charge the chestburster breaks its necc trying to push out of Supe's ribcage
Which leads to superman coughing it up and spitting it out
You cannot hate superman
Crazy House he crushed it inside him and threw up the remains
Kako Mohammed you can, he’s the ultimate god moded hero. If something can kill him, they make him immune to it not too long after
I think you're my favourite channel on UA-cam
2:18 what i don't get is how ripply 8's acid blood had no affect of equipment during removal of the queen. they should of become aware of the hosts genetic splice at this point making ripply more valuable than the queen.
Just watched Alien Romulus were a facehugger was removed safely. It still didn't do any good as the alien burst out of
odds were given 60/40 at that point against her, the chance of survival was increased but in the end it was too late.
NO SPOLIERS FOR FFS
Good video cant believed im getting recommended this 7 years later.
Another great and informative video, mate. Always look forward to when you release these.
Labyrinth was always my favorite Alien comic. Really neat story, and the artist's take on the Alien was just classic and so well done
Labyrinth is excellent. I was grabbing screenshots for this video and got sidetracked and just ended up reading it over again. It's just too good.
@@AlienTheory Labyrinth was good, except for some of Dr. Church's juvenile patter. A man of his breadth of personality ought to be more dignified.
I would have liked to seen a sequel for Labyrinth. There is a lot of Dr. Church story to build upon.
I always like the detail in these theory videos, the lore of the Alien Universe =P
I think they could, depending on the timing and the equipment.
I just love these videos, it's like watching an actual documentary but cooler, very good Alien Theory guys.
I think the removal or killing of a chest buster is possible but highly risky without doctors or a robot doing it.
I keep coming back to this video. Incredible work, man.
I appreciate that, thank you. I am really proud of how this video turned out and I'm glad you enjoy it. :)
the new movie confirms the possibility of a facehugger being cut off, though it has to be done quickly all you really need to do is cut one of those 2 sacks and it will detach itself only problem is it might get some of that acid on someone, but I'd rather have that than a terrifying death. also to add on the way it impregnates it's gross. it shoves a tube down you throat an pumps the stuff in you. nasty stuff.
Keep it up!
*Snap fingers*
Chestburster: I don't feel so good.
redstone craft guy I see what you did there.
I really enjoy these much longer videos a lot. Keep them Up.
Would the surgery in Prometheus with Dr Shaw count at all as a xenomorph removal??
Seb J it wasn't a chest burster
How so? It would've still clearly burst through her chest in function.
Seb J it was a trilobite geez trilobites burst through 2bellies
I would go as far as to say that the trilobite removal was even more dangerous then a chestburster removal. Wouldn't Shaw still be infected with the black goo after having sex with her infected boyfriend?
I think it is a case by case issue depending on the host, the Xenomorph, the stage of gestation, the technology, the skill of the surgeon, and possibly other factors.
Could you discuss the possibility of harvesting a xenomorph brain and placing it in the Cain cyborg from Robocop 2? It would have the fighting instincts of a xenomorph combined with all the badass weaponry that the Cain cyborg has to offer like the minigun.....call it the Xenoborg.
has science gone too far?
Damn that would be cool but it would need the body to be slimmer and more quadrupedal for the xeno to move with ease but otherwise an awesome idea
probably be a confused mess and not understand how to fire the gun
Side note: Xenomorphs have larger brains than humans. Significantly so. Are they smarter than us? Or have the potential to be but aren't because of instinct?
A lot of animals have larger brains than humans. Xenomorphs are smart but not smarter than humans.
I really love the way you narrated your vids, it has a dark undertone that keeps me hooked. Even in the style of the way you talk. love it.
Well we know you can survive a trilobite chest burster if you have one of the only 7 most state of the art medpods. Of course that was also a type of Xenomorph that was far earlier in their evolutionary history, so they may have evolved past it.
Striker163 Actually we don't know yet. Shaw wont be in Alien Covenant. She is probably dead, maybe because of some kind of cancerous placenta.
In Aliens Dark Descent one of the items unlocked through xeno research is a facehugger detaching tool. I'm not sure if it only exists in gameplay or not, but if not, that would mean someone with the proper medical knowledge and understanding of the xenomorphs can easily make one.
Yes, that theory was proven in AVP 2010
Don't know if this was because of his Kryptonian physiology or not but it was an interesting scenario.
your channel is growing, last time i was here you were at 10k
It's been so crazy! It still feels like yesterday that I was at 100.
At the beginning, feel absolutely free to correct me in anything ;)
Depending on how much time it takes for an embryo to be laid in a ribcage and subsequent dying of the facehugger.
It can be done, but it must be done before alien starts to dig itself out.
In Batman vs Aliens II- the Doctors were able to remove the larva using current technology. The Doctors mentioned it was fairly simple.
Venetra Hr that story is non canon, and therefore not part of this analysis.
Kevin Sanchez Same should be with Colonial Marines game.
0:28 I thought that was a skeleton lmao
I think later on it's totally possible. Like when Ripley was cloned. They've obviously had lots of time to study the xenomorphs and have a lot of interest in them. It would make sense that technology improved over time allowing the removal of an embryo.
can a facehugger attach and implant a xenomorph into another xenomorph?
That is a good question.
Yes
The Predator vs Alien series isn't canon tho.
And those are my 2 cents!
to remove a facehugger could you just grab its tail and unwrap it?, like in aliens when it tries to attack Ripley.
Mr.DeadlyShadowDweller It took Hicks, Hudson, AND Ripley to get that tail unwound. They are HELLA strong and scary quick.
Mr.DeadlyShadowDweller Facehugger would toxic shock a host upon sensing removal. Its renders hosts unconcious through chemical sedation rather than a strangulation from the tail.
I did not know that thanks :)
Mr.DeadlyShadowDweller it’s probably like an anaconda grip
I'm fairly confident that the face hugger moves its 'falice' down the tracia, and moves it's bio-virus into the hosts lungs where it is rapidly absorbed. It is likely the virus repurposes preexisting organs such as the gall bladder and muscle tissue rather than have the host fully grow it's body, as this process is much shorter. The compound to do this may be released as a last result should the embryo go into shock, causing other organs to begin repurposing leading to failure. Perhaps if it is already dead this won't happen.
Why not wear spiked masks and gorgets?
Acid blood.
thats a preventive step, not curative.

It makes sense in the comparison to cancer that it would be largly a case by case deal as some types if cancer are operable and others are not.
Woulnd't something like a metal armor for the neck prevent a facehugger from grapping the neck, leading to a higher chance to "deflect" it?
DarkMasterM19 girls with chokers r very much ahead of the game ;)
DarkMasterM19 Facehugger use a chemical sedation process to quickly knock people out. If they uncoiled the tail the facehugger would dump large amounts of chemicals into a host before killing them through toxic shock.
Yeah, but how can they grab, If they can't choke 'em?
Even if it wraps its tail around a neck or limb it is still strong enough to lock the legs around your face and sedate you. In aliens it took 3 marines to pry one off of Ripley. In AVPR the homeless guy trys to fight one off but gets latched on
I know from personal experience that a facehugger can indeed be removed
You simply coat the facehugger with a liberal coating of salt and or thick oil
The facehugger wont be able to respirate and will detach in a panic at which you can capture the facehugger in a bucket
As for removing a chestburster, assuming you are at a medical faciity, to deliberatey flatline the patient fooling the chestburster that the host is dead
You can then surgically remove the chestburster without it retaliating
Could xenomorphs use machines like consoles with buttons and switches or even firearms
Schwartzbruder1 ok could a xenomorph be made into a synthetic form like the androids but Xeno form and be able to fly ships shoot guns talk and think

We don't count that game.. Never speak of it again. Ever.
Dude! Aliens!
A combination of that, and Traumatic Shock (I'm assuming severe acid burns from the facehugger being cut open while still attached to his head) caused the patient to suffer a Myocardial Infarction [a heart attack] and die."
If a facehugger deliberately sabotages a victim by poisoning the living shit out him/her as an anti-tampering fail-safe measure to kill them even if they aren't impregnated, then it would most likely definitely mean it would decide to kill the host if you tried to pull it off, unless maybe you somehow figured out how to rip it off in one piece instantly.
I think it might be possible that the host could live if u remove the embryo in time. its possible that it may be a case by case basis but I guess it depends on what sources u want to go by.
I may have said it before but i'll say it again. Great vids and the background sound effect is just excellent.
I suspect whether or not it's possible is entirely left up to the demands of the script
How to survive a Facehugger:
Step 1) hold whatever breath you have and don't breathe when it's on your face (because it has this thing that'll make you go to sleep)
Step 2) find a wall (still holding your breath) and slam your face against the wall attempting to knock the Facehugger out or kill it.
Or you could slam your face against the wall while trying to pull the tail off your neck. That helps
You are PHENOMENAL ! I love your vids and the OUTSTANDING information you share. Keep'em coming & thanks again.
Despite all its flaws, I appreciate that Colonial Marines came up with a plausible explanation for why chestbursters can't be removed.
As always great video but i wonder, does the Prometheus one counts? The squid thingy, also a video on the space ships would be great.
Here 7 years later after watching Alien: Romulus. And yes, it is possible to remove a facehugger :)
I would wonder if radiation like that used to destroy tumors could destroy or kill the chest buster
