    Sometimes you have to experience no grip to appreciate grip....or experience shooting a .357 magnum before a 9mm! It's like a .22 now! lol MotoJitsu.com/courses

      Have you tried the Chiappa Rhino? It's worth checking out. They make a version with a 2" barrel with or without a hammer in .357. The barrel is low so there is hardly any muzzle flip.

      i hope you can upload a video on a harley big rear tire in a cornering because big rear tire like 300 or 360 is too difficult to handle in cornering... i hope you can have a video on that and i do really appreciate bro.... thanks!

      Full load Norma 10mm loads 200 grains @ 1200fps out of a Glock 20 (same or more power than your .357 magnum revolver) back to a 9mm Glock 17. Same lesson minus the finger abrasion and tape 😅. Supercamp mud drill is the best teacher of bad technique in zero traction. Doing it is like doing the pointy end of the cone drill in Champ School with downed riders on the course instead of cones 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Great analogy! I had a Yamaha FJR1300, 145 HP and 650 lbs. Then I bought a Honda CBR250r, that I could rip around bends, with more confidence, proving to me how far a Bike could lean. Light weight, flickable and a blast. Then, I got back on the big Yamaha and it gave me the knowledge to ride through curves with a new understanding of traction limits. Fear of leaning that big Bike was greatly reduced.

    This winter, I drove on snow with street tires and fell off the bike once. It was a slow crash, and fortunately, nothing hurts. But after snow riding, going back to dry roads felt amazing. I feel the same as you're talking about in this video. Cheers!

    I recently stopped riding on the street for a while following some unfortunate events we shared and focused on riding dirt, when I went back to the road it feels like I have a cheat code. I got so used to the front washing out all the time and rear sliding around in the sand that now I'm hyper aware of little changes in grip. I'm finding myself nailing the trail in, knee down feeling and am finding myself getting closer to max lean angle much quicker. Like you told me once, my knee should hit the ground as I'm letting the last bit of brake pressure off and then controlling corner exit by using the throttle to stand the bike up. I feel like I owe all that control to riding a lot of dirt lately. Can't wait to hit the track and see the difference in confidence in the tires!

  • @ganuvien
    @ganuvien 6 місяців тому +5

    Finding good tires that allow you to "feel" the traction helps too. My first bike a 2018 XSR700 had stock Pirelli Phantoms that I could not for the life of me feel the road or how the bike is reacting in corners so they never felt confident. After wearing those down I ended up replacing with Michelin Road 5's at the time and man what a difference in feel and response through the chassis/bars on what the tires are doing. Coming from a dirt riding background definitely helped me on the street because I subconsciously never overreacted to the tire slipping in a corner from sand and any other loss of traction like locking the rear tire up, etc whereas a new rider with no experience is bound to overreact and panic crash.

    I went out for a Sunday ride on my BMW S 1000 R yesterday, and for fun, I pulled into an empty school parking lot to do some U-turns. I heard your voice in my head as I repeated turns with a radius the size of a circus tent. My bike is pristine and I don't want to drop it practicing turns. I know from your videos that this is a lame excuse. I need to dig through your videos and pick out a couple of drills to master. I hate being a poor slow-speed pilot. I hadn't even thought about it, but the 60/40 off/on-Road knobbies I have on my CRF250L are probably helping me get comfortable on the road with the lesser grip. It will be interesting to see what it's like when I get more on-road tires.

    I always say best motorcycle skills are first learned on dirt bikes in dirt where skills transfer to the road with confidence (not in reverse however).
    I am always impressed how much lean I can put on a quality 50/50 tire (AX-41 in my case) which makes me realise how much you can then push a road tire… as long as you understand how to effectively preload tires, suspensions etc…

    Thanks for the great instructional videos. Been riding motorcycles for over fifty years. All this time BMW. Started with an R50/5. Brakes were not an item back then because there were no real brakes on them. Now I'm about to retire and have bought an R1100RS. I want to do a few more beautiful tours in the coming years, such as the Stelvio pass in Italy and the Trollenweg in Norway. And much more. I'm now practicing well with your instructions. Five minutes every day as you indicated. Also going to take a driving skills course this year. Despite all those years of driving experience, I can still learn a lot from you. So many thanks again from the Netherlands and keep it up.

    Someone once said (actually in a discussion about knobbies on pavement), "Any DOT approved tire can handle more than you can." Probably true for at least 90% of the riders out there. I bought a KLX300SM last fall and most people (not everyone) seem to complain about the IRC Roadwinner tires. So far they seem OK to me; I haven't had a chance to push it hard yet but even my idea of pushing it probably pales in comparison to what some of these guys are trying to do. The complaints do seem to center around cold and particularly cold rain. I know my CB500X with Conti Trail Attacks or even TKC70s will hang on longer than I care to. Rode the Dragon in a downpour on the Trail Attacks and was concentrating so much on being able to see that I didn't really even give the leaning much of a thought. Just went and did it to get back to the resort and then afterward was like, "Huh..."

    That’s well worth pointing out. Good job! I recently changed the factory AT tires to a nice set of road tires. WOW! What a difference in grip and confidence. I regret selling my SP101 all the time. They are built like a tank. If I get another one I don’t think it will be the 2.5” barrel again. I couldn’t hit the side of a barn with that damn thing. Even with mild .38 special loaded in it, lol. I put a laser grip on it, helped tremendously. Love my Sig SP2022 9mm though. It’s a cheap Sig but I can drive tacks with it at 5 yards.

    Last year, I went to a off road school, with the intent to ride my middle weight ADV during the course.
    The day I arrived, riding into the parking lot, I dropped the bike in the sand of the entry road. That set the tone and really ruined the rest of the course for me. Also, I simply wasn't in good enough shape, being quite tired by early afternoon. Not a good experience for me. That drop really wrecked my confidence.
    However, I'll tell you what, get off that dirt and onto the street -- yea, HEY! The ground doesn't move anymore! The tires stick! It's a fundamentally different feeling. It felt very comforting after my training experience. I was more confident on the street. But dirt, still scares me. I need to go back.
    Take classes, for sure, just be aware that they can be quite demanding of your stamina, and your concentration. I did a shooting class once, and that was, you know a day of shooting, standing around, punching paper. But it was mentally exhausting. Really tired by the end of that day.
    So, just prepare for that. None of this stuff is easy, and that can take a toll on you, but that's why you're going.
    I enjoyed the spontaneous, conversational, "talking in the car" style of this.

    One thing I’ll say about short 357 revolvers is that they may kick way more than a 9mm and have more flash, but if they have a barrel shorter than 2 1/2 inches the actual terminal ballistics won’t be much better than a 4 inch barrel 9mm auto because of unburned powder. My 125gr 357 loads are down over 800fps from what the box says out of a 2 inch barrel.

    Hi Greg. Husband unit and I just bought your program and we have a small challenge. We live in western Washington and finding a parking lot that’s flat, level, paved and empty is proving difficult. We did find one good one except that it’s covered in a thin layer of moss! It’s nerve wracking especially since I dropped my bike in the dark this winter because I didn’t see the moss on the side of the road. I have a question regarding dealing with complex corners. Don't know if you've already done a video on this, so if you have, maybe a link directly to one would be cool?
    Basically, I came off on one which was beyond my current skill level. Approaching a blind crest, I slowed to a little under 25mph. As i went over, it began to bend downhill and to the right. There was an adverse camber, no curb - the road surface simply drops a few inches onto mud and grass, the main tarmac is smooth from car tyre wear, and gravel at the sides. A strong side wind pushed me onto the gravel despite my attempts to look further into the turn, and I low-sided, sliding only about ten feet.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dude.

    Hello Greg and fellow bikers!! 🙋 Sometimes when I'm on a nice curve (good visibility, wide road, relatively good asphalt etc.) I try to check how far I can lean, by really gently adding little counter steering inputs mid corner. My throttle is steady, my body is on the inside of the turn, my speed is not much (cause I'm a chicken, and I don't trust my tires/my skills😅). At some point I feel I'm losing my rear wheel, but supposedly the bike (Rebel500) and the tire have more to give. Pegs not to close to the ground and rear chicken strips are like a finger wide on each side. Any advice? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?🤔
    By the way, my tires are the stock Dunlop ones, produced in '22

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  6 місяців тому

      Yes, stop trying to do this on the road...and speed is what determines your lean angle...if you go through a corner at 50mph the bike will have to lean a certain amount...if you take the same corner at 80mph, it must lean way more in order to make it through. Plus on a cruiser, your limit is your low ground clearance...once you start scrapping your pegs, you're close or your body position is horrible.

    • @Alex_De_Vos
      @Alex_De_Vos 6 місяців тому

      @@MotoJitsu actually the conditions on the road I'm talking about are much better than the racing tracks of my country. 😆 I'm talking about parts with ideal conditions and great visibility. Only then I feel confident and safe to take the extra step. Unfortunately, I would need an extra full time job to be able to get on a track day every time I want to practice on twisties. Anyway, how would I dare to go faster and lean more, when I'm already slipping with low speed and little leaning? 😬😰
      PS: I'm about to plan my first courses, which I know will be beneficial, when I save some more money.

      @@MotoJitsu I read it, but as I said, my pegs are still far from touching the ground (I think). My heel touched the ground once, when going uphill, but never my pegs. I feel like I have at least 4-5 inches till my pegs start scraping.🤷

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  6 місяців тому

      If your foot is touching it’s in the wrong place, if you’re not scrapping your pegs (and have good body position) you’re not riding anywhere near quick enough to warrant enough lean angle. Still is the goal, not lean angle bs you’re chasing
