Man, I watch plenty of reaction videos for this episode but waiting for yours to this one has been worth it... Absolutely great stuff, I can agree this is probably Mauds strongest outing as a character.
I personally think this episode it a lesson to shippers. Pinkie is FORCING their friendship and you don't do that. A friendship should be narural, and not forced by others. my two favorite moments were when pinkie drastically looked like Maud, and when they said mauds full name. when you think about that, make you wonder what her other sisters full name is.
Seeing how uncomfortable Marble gets during Pinkie's loud emotional outbursts, it's a good thing she moved out to live in Sugar Cube Corner. Even Limestone clearly gets disturbed. For a pony with social anxiety it would be torture to live with a sibling that has HPD. I also feel like there's a huge piece of the dark Pie family history missing, which would explain why all of the sisters are deeply messed up in different ways.
WOW, my daughter is such a fan of this site but I have never understood why a grown man would be interested in My Little Pony or Sailor Moon! I totally respect you for your choice and I have gotten used to hearing your voice in the background as my daughter watches and talks non stop in my ear off about this and Minecraft. Sometimes, All I hear sometimes are female voices screaming. At first, I thought my daughter was watching Pat and Jen as the voices sound similar! She also watches a lot of Preston plays and that guy really gives that newb guy a hard time. Like it or not, you and your crew are part of my reality now and my daughter laughs as she sticks it in my face. You folks really seem to be having lots of fun.
I don't know if they have put out a statement about the focus of this season. I know they sometimes do like 'exploring Equestria' was a couple seasons back. Though if they haven't I think part of there vision for this season is the expansion of Ponyville. Not just by bringing in characters like Maud or humanising Celestial's struggles. I mean like showing Bulk not just as a meat head that works at the Spa but how he seems to enjoy doing many little odd jobs around the town. I'd like to see him maybe open a gym or expand his role in the spa with weight lifting lessons down the line after the CMC helped him discover that talent. It wouldn't need to be in the foreground or focus of an episode, just background flavour. Then there are background nods keeping continuity of the 100th episode on things like Lyra and Bonbon always being around each other. Now I know people might still call ''That's just fan-service and so its bad.' but honestly its not and let me make a comparisons to show why. Look at the Simpsons, I know some don't like the recent series but I'm sure most agree it has a vibrant breathing town with locals most know to the point of intimate details. I don't believe people complain of Lenny and Carl are shown together do they? Though just through showing them in the background together time and again its known that they are good friends and later on they do expand that Lenny might have something for Carl. Then lets look at South Park, another long running show that is always going from strength to strength but also keeps a vast caste of well known background characters who's personal lives we know a lot about because they sometimes got an episode or background interactions to tell us about them. Jimbo and Ned are a classic pair of the show which aren't always in the limelight but have a friendship told in solo episodes or in background appearances. That kind of continuity of background characters that some love and others might hate breaths life into a series more then most people think. It gives writers a strong network of characters to pull from means ideas won't grow stale for a while. They can build on those characters and how their lives interest with the main group to create more interesting stories. Just last episode.... GOD DAMN IT! I had a really good example of how a background character effects a main one but can't point it out because then it'll spoil Blank Check on the plot... DAMN IT. Though it makes my point well I feel. Either way I'm really enjoying how the show is handling background characters and I hope it continues to build a stronger framework for the writers.
